Abstract:
The effect of cell membrane on the mechanical properties of the foam was investigated. Young's modulus, flow resistance and density were measured for foams with and without membrane. Results show that the membrane in the foam has a reinforcing effect on the cell structure.
The effect of air in the foam on dynamic mechanical properties was studied by comparing the mechanical loss (or tan δ) in air and in vacuum. The results show that tan
δ in air is greater than that in vacuum and the increment depends on frequency, size and flow resistance of the specimen.
