Abstract: Daily exposure for 15 days to a pressure of 24 000 ft altitude caused a decrease of muscle and liver glycolytic rates in albino rats. On continuation of such exposures for [Formula: see text] months values returned to normal. When the same exposures were combined with a daily injection of noradrenaline, the decrease in glycolysis was prevented. In the latter case liver glycolysis did not show a change after treatment for 15 days or [Formula: see text] months; muscle glycolysis showed a marked increase after 15 days' treatment, and a moderate increase after [Formula: see text] months of treatment. Glycolytic data have been discussed in the light of hypoxic adaptation.
