Abstract:
A new double oxide of the formula AgCoO 2 was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions by reaction of metallic Ag and CoOOH in diluted NaOH at 330°C and 300 atm. High‐resolution X‐ray powder photographs of the black microcrystalline powder were indexed on a hexagonal‐rhombohedral unit cell: a hex. = 2.859 ± 0.006 Å, c hex . = 18.26 ± 0.05 Å, V = 129.2 ± 0.4 Å 3 . The cell dimensions and rough intensities of the reflections show that the compound is isostructural with AgFeO 2 and AgCrO 2 [NaHF 2 ‐type, space group R 3 m].
