Notes: Abstract Community mental health developments in major American cities are reviewed and compared through 1968. An open-ended questionnaire covering nine areas basic to urban community mental health services was forwarded to appropriate authorities in 25 American cities. Data collected from the 15 respondents indicated extreme diversity in terms of type of administration, funding patterns, scope of program, community participation, and so forth. The data also indicate rapid developments in community mental health services in major American cities. The findings are consistent with the general conclusion that community mental health services in urban settings are in an early developmental stage.

Notes: Abstract The locus of muncipal mental health services is frequently an urban community, reflecting a wide range of social and ethnic complexities. This locus differs sharply from the historic setting of such services, that is, institutionally based, rurally located state hospitals. To effect this significant shift in locus and emphasis, an evolutionary process with close community involvement at alllevels of development must occur. Only via such an evolutionary process can resistance to the implications of this change from professional, political, or community sources be adequately resolved.

Notes: Ceramic materials for permanent implantation in osseous tissue, called osteoceramics, were based on an equimolar mixture of Ca3(PO4)2 and MgAl2O4. Tooth roots with dense regions and with regions of controlled porosity for tissue ingrowth were made from the material. They were implanted submucosally in the mandible and maxilla of dogs. Tissue response was aceptable and strong attachment occurred. Thin sections are presented showing the interface of the alveolar bone and the prosthesis.
