Notes:
Two methods of sampling leathetjackets (larvae of Tipula spp.) were compared during the two winters of 1965–66 and 1966–67.in north-east Scotland. The core method using dry heat extraction gave a signifi-cantly higher estimate of population than the orthodichlorobenzene (ODCB) technique from October to February, particularli in 1965–66. A comparison over three years in general survey work gave few significant deferences, but 49 out of 64 lields sampled showed a larger population when estimated by coring.
