Notes: Abstract A fission track solid-state detector, based on aluminophosphate or sodium-calcium glasses and foil of natural uranium, was investigated. The etching conditions and evaluation of detectors are discussed. In the given arrangement a sensitivity of 1 rem for aluminophosphate glasses and 5 rem for sodium-calcium glasses was attained with slow neutrons.

Notes: Abstract The elastic interaction of a dilatation centre with edge dislocation dipole is investigated and the share of this elastic interaction in the time dependence of the diffusion of point defects to dislocations in plastically deformed crystalline materials is discussed.

Notes: Abstract In recent years an increased interest in General Relativity Theory (GRT) has been apparent among theoretical physicists, mathematicians, astronomers and geophysicists. At the same time, the necessity of rinding a final and generally satisfactory solution of a very important problem, namely that of conservation laws, has become topical. Surprising difficulties have been encountered in the attempt to transfer these concepts to General Relativity Theory. In the course of a few years a comprehensive literature has resulted and now the time is ripe for a thorough summary of the results attained so far.

Notes: Abstract Msasurements of the growth rates of {110} and {001} faces of triglycinsulphate (TGS) as functions of supersaturation of the solution are analyzed on the basis of the surface-diffusion model of Burton, Cabrera and Frank. Approximate values of the free activation energies of dehydratation, surface diffusion and incorporation of TGS molecules into the crystal lattice are determined. It is shown that surface diffusion is responsible for the low growth rate of {001} faces; in the case of {110} faces, this mechanism is less important at higher values of supersaturation than volume diffusion. This fact is discussed on the basis of results obtained from measurements of the influence of hydrodynamical conditions on the growth of the prismatic {110} faces of TGS crystals.

Notes: Abstract Single crystals of TGS doped with Pd2+ have been grown from aqueous solutions using the method of temperature decrease. It was found that the relative growth rate along thec-axis is not constant through the growth process being larger by more than an order of magnitude (in medium size crystals, ca. 30 g) than in pure TGS crystals. Investigation of the domain structure revealed that in the growth pyramids ¦110¦, the crystals are poled in one direction. The internal bias field in these growth pyramids was experimentally found to be of the order of 1 kV/cm. The high internal field excludes the possibility of spontaneous depoling and makes the Pd2+-doped TGS crystals suitable for pyroelectric applications.

Notes: Abstract The formation of colour centres was studied in ruby irradiated by X-rays containing 0·01–1·0% Cr. The absorption spectrum exhibits new bands at 450 and 380 mμ. It was found that the highest number of colour centres is formed at a concentration of 0·2% Cr. The nature of these centres is discussed on the basis of optical, thermoluminescent and phosphorescent measurements.

Notes: Abstract The equations of motion for the plane shell consisting of an ideal fluid and creating the de Sitter solution on one side and the static plane symmetric solution of Einstein equations with positive cosmological constant on the other side are derived. Solution of the equation of motion for the case of “plane gravitational condensor” is found and the necessary agreement with the solution of the problem in the caseA = 0 is demonstrated.

Notes: Abstract Representative results are presented for nongray radiation-conduction interaction in a radiating gas bounded by two gray infinite parallel plates. The effect of the surface emittanee on the interaction of radiation with conduction for diffuse surfaces and a special case of one black surface combined with a diffusely emitting, specularly reflecting surface is investigated. Additionally, the accuracy of the one-term exponential kernel approximation is examined.

Notes: Abstract In the present paper the existence is proved of mechanical vibrations in TGS tandels in the frequency range from 5 kc/s to 1000 kc/s. A number of resonances was found in the given range of frequencies. Mainly plane and flexural vibrations occur. A study is made of their influence on the course of the frequency dependence of the complex effective permittivity, dielectric non-linearities of the tandel, and the thermoelectric force measured by a thermocouple on its surface. From the study of the frequency dependences of these parameters at various temperatures the conclusion is drawn that the probable cause of the origin of mechanical vibrations in a tandel is the piezoeffect.
