Notes: Summary Analysis of the results of operations on 673 patients (794 extremities) for thoracic outlet compreBion syndrome and its complications shows that, at present, only two operations should be performed: supraclavicular extirpation of a cervical rib and resection of the first rib. This first rib resection should be performed via the transaxillary route. This route is cosmetically the most favorable; at the same time thoracic sympathectomy is poBible and reconstruction of the damaged veBels, if neceBary, can be readily achieved.

Description / Table of Contents: ZusammenfaBung Der A. mesenterica inferior kommt bei VerschluBprozeBen der Beckenarterien und der A. mesenterica superior eine wichtige Kollateralfunktion zu.
Notes: Summary In occlusive disease of the aortoiliac arteries and the superior mesenteric artery, the inferior mesenteric artery has an eBential collateral function. Interruption of this collateral circulation, e. g., when performing a rectosigmoid resection, has the risk of producing a vascular insufficiency of the lower extremities or the intestine. The authors state that such vascular complications are not described as a direct consequence of rectosigmoid resection, because the relation between the postoperative vascular insufficiency and the intraoperative interruption of eBential blood circulation is not recognized.

Description: The sterile hybrid Carex pseudocyperus L. X C. rostrata Stokes, new for the Netherlands, was discovered along a ditch near Gorredijk-Kortezwaag in the province of Friesland, in a large population of C. pseudocyperus. C. rostrata was found in the neighbourhood. The hybrid differs from C. pseudocyperus in, among other things, the glaucous leaves and the only slightly pendulous spikes. Compared with C. rostrata the hybrid has much flatter and wider leaves and the utricules gradually taper into the beak (fig. 2, a). The distinctly awned female glumes show the influence of C. pseudocyperus fig- 2,b).
