Abstract: An analog correlator has been constructed using a delay unit which is realized by simulation of the sixth-order Padé approximated result of exp(−jωτ) where j=√−1, ω the angular frequency of the signals of concern, and τ the delay in seconds. Several sinusoidal signals and a noise spectrum have been autocorrelated with this correlator; also, it has been applied to determine the impulse response of an RC low-pass filter. Results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions. This correlator has been used to study low- frequency signals in the region 1–50 kHz.

Abstract: CuxS-CdS solar cells, prepared by the Clevite process, were bevelled at an angle of 40′ and suitably etched to expose grains of CdS, cracks, and the junction region. SEM pictures of this region reveal the average grain size and the distance between the cracks to be about 0.5 and 2 μm, respectively. Cathodoluminescence and SEM studies of the bevelled region of the cells show that the thickness of the CuxS layer perpendicular to the surface is highly nonuniform and thus forms vertical junctions. With the help of simple expressions it was shown that the reduction of the open-circuit voltage is a natural outcome, if the vertical parts of the junction are considered. It was also pointed out that there may be an optimum grain size of the CdS crystallites to obtain maximum power output from the cell.

Abstract: The characteristics of TE modes in a transversely magnetized plane-parallel waveguide containing a relativistically moving warm plasma have been studied. The effects of the finite electron temperature of the plasma have been incorporated in terms of an anisotropic pressure. Using the first three moment equations in conjunction with Maxwell-Minkowski equations, we have derived the dispersion relation and the cutoff frequencies for the TE mode. It is found that the TE mode is modified due to the thermal motion of electrons to depend upon the velocity of the moving medium and the applied magnetic field. Numerical results for the cutoff frequencies are presented for several values of the parameters characterizing the electron-plasma temperature, the velocity of the moving medium, and the strength of the applied magnetic field.

Abstract: The problem of electromagnetic radiation from the electric and the magnetic line sources interacting with a cold collisionless moving magnetoplasma half-space has been treated. The ambient magnetic field lies parallel to the line source and is oriented normal to the direction of medium motion. For the configuration, the E and H modes become independent, being capable of becoming excited, respectively, by a magnetic and an electric line source. Using the saddle-point method of integration, we have obtained the far-zone radiation fields and the radiation patterns for both line sources. It is found that the fields radiated by an electric line source remain unaffected by the presence of an ambient magnetic field. Numerical results for the far-zone radiation pattern, referring to a magnetic line source, are presented for several values of the parameters characterizing the electron-plasma density, the local magnetic field, and the velocity of the moving medium.

Abstract: Some properties of a transversely magnetized parallel-plane waveguide containing moving plasma have been studied. Expressions are obtained for the dispersion relations and the field components for the TE and the TM modes excited in the waveguide. Analytic expressions are also derived for the cutoff frequencies of these modes. It is found that the characteristics of a TE mode remain unaffected by the velocity of the moving medium and the presence of an ambient magnetic field.

Abstract: Some specific features of electromagnetic wave propagation in a moving magnetoplasma, bounded by a plane, are studied. Expressions are obtained for the modified Snell’s law of refraction, the critical angle for total reflection, the refractive indices, and the phase and the group velocities of the waves supported by the moving medium. Analytic conditions for the total reflection of H-polarized incident wave (with the electric vector in the plane of incidence) are also discussed.

Abstract: The Brewster-angle phenomena of total transmission has been investigated with reference to an E-polarized electromagnetic wave interacting with a dielectric half-space moving along the interface. Analytic conditions are derived for the existence of Brewster angles. We also discuss how the Brewster angles are modified by replacing the incident region (in which the incident electromagnetic wave is propagated) with an isotropic or a uniaxially anisotropic plasma. The Brewster angles are found to behave in a remarkably different fashion under various conditions. Numerical results for the Brewster angles, showing their dependence on the nondimensional velocity of the medium β, are presented for several values of the physical parameters.
