Notes:
Summary For the trace analysis of cobalt photometric determinations using the following reagents are compared: 4-[(5-chloro-2-pyridyl)azo]-1,3-diaminobenzene (Cl-PADAB, direct determination in aqueous solution), nitroso-R-salt (ion-pair extraction), 1-nitroso-2-naphthol (extraction and re-extraction of excess reagent as well as column and thin-layer chromatography). With respect to the separation of interferences (especially iron) and the possibilities of pre-concentration the 1-nitroso-2-naphthol/TLC technique proved to be most powerful (detection limit 0.16 ng/ml sample volume). The application to urine containing about 50 μg/ml yielded comparable results for all techniques but the direct determination with Cl-PADAB was found to be the best.
