Abstract:
Tunable near-infrared picosecond pulses with ∼25 ps duration and ∼10 MW peak power are produced by a mode-locked dye laser synchronously pumped by second harmonic train from a passively mode-locked Nd:YAG laser. The lasing wavelength can be tuned from 720 to 830 nm using several polymethine dyes. It is found that the most important characteristic for picosecond lasing dye is a fast rise of an amplified spontaneous emission rather than higher fluorescence efficiency.
