Abstract:
This paper describes, in general terms, China's energy resources, their development, exploitation and distribution, and the context in which they are currently placed. Details are given of coal, oil and gas, hydropower, nuclear power and unconventional sources, and the institutes and organisations within the People's Republic which have responsibility for research, exploration and development, as well as making mention of successes and difficulties encountered, especially in counting the dramatic shortages of power to industry, and in trying to reduce net imports of fuels. Mention is also made of similar developments in Taiwan.
