    Notes: We derive basic integrals needed for calculation of matrix elements of the Fourier transformed Coulomb operator and the Fourier transformed square of the Coulomb operator between 1s Slater functions. These integrals arise, for example, in the momentum space (k space) susceptibility formulation of van der Waals forces. The advantages of integration in k space (rather than r space) are that in k space there is a drastic reduction in the number of integration variables, and contour integration can be used. The derivation is completely analytic and the auxiliary integrals are all obtained in closed form.

    Notes: Certain organic solutes, including phenol, undergo anomalous enrichment when hyperfiltered through cellulose acetate membranes: the solute concentration is higher in the permeate than in the feed solution. A number of existing theoretical approaches describing hyperfiltration phenomena are presented and their merits and limitations upon application to the transport of phenol discussed. A new two-parameter transport relationship is derived based on an extension of the solution-diffusion model. The enrichment, or negative solute rejection by the membrane, is predicted to occur whenever the pressure-induced solute permeation velocity exceeds that of water. By acknowledging and incorporating the effect of pressure on the chemical potential of the solute, the present extended solution-diffusion model relationship successfully describes hyperfiltration data of phenol in homogeneous and asymmetric cellulose acetate membranes provided the contribution of convective flow to the overall solute transport is insignificant. In addition to the transport parameters of the extended solution-diffusion model, the transport parameters of the phenomenological, Kedem-Spiegler, and combined viscous flow-frictional relationship are evaluated from hyperfiltration data obtained with 0.05 and 0.1 wt % phenol feed solutions and homogeneous cellulose acetate membranes of different acetyl content.

    Notes: The synthesis of amylose-polyester block copolymers is described. 2,3,6-Tri-0-allyl amylose was synthesized by amylose alkoxide and allyl bromide and hydrolyzed by hydronium ions to give an hydroxyl-terminated allyl amylose oligomer (HTAA). The allyl groups were isomerized with t-BuoK to yield the prop-1-enyl isomer (HTPA). The HTPA was capped with a diisocyanate. The HTPA prepolymer was reacted with hydroxy-terminated poly(ethylene-co-propylene adipate) and poly-(ethylene terephthalate) to form block terpolymers. Block terpolymer formation was demonstrated by intrinsic viscosity increases, gel permeation chromatographic results, and infrared (IR) and PMR spectroscopy. The products were depropenylated by HgCl2 to yield amylose block terpolymers. These polymers were readily degraded by α-amylase.
