Description: Apart from the common cricetid fauna, the site of Vieux-Collonges contains a number of rare forms: Lartetomys, Melissiodon, Neocometes, and Anomalomys. This scarce material is described and compared with material from other European localities. The stratigraphie position of Vieux-Collonges is discussed briefly.

Description: Pearson\'s coefficient of variation is in general not applicable in palaeontology, due to the heterogeneity of samples. The heterogeneity may be due to the mixing of two species, mixture of material from various biotopes, or from a relatively large time span. A new coefficient of variation is proposed, based on the range of the sample. This coefficient may be used to estimate the degree of variation of a sample, and to decide whether it is homogeneous. Its application is tested empirically on a large number of samples of cricetid molars from the European Tertiary.

Description: The system of Neogene Mammal Zones, as originally created by Mein (1975), is discussed, and found to be confusing. The Aragonian in the type section and in the surrounding area is discussed, and the evolution of its fauna described in some detail. It appears dubious to apply the MN-zones to the faunules of the Aragonian type area. On the other hand, the type section may well serve as a basis for correlation of Miocene vertebrate localities in Spain and France and \xe2\x80\x94 may be \xe2\x80\x94 in other parts of Europe.

Description: A new genus of Muridae, Microtia, is described and three species M. magna, M. parva, and M. maiuscula are ascribed to it. The size and morphology of Microtia molars show a very wide variation which is interpreted as an evolutionary trend, and used to establish an age sequence for a large number of fissure fillings, that show no stratigraphic correlation in the field. This sequence serves as a background for the study of the birds from Gargano by Ballmann.

Description: The structure of the RGM registration system is discussed, with special attention to the costs for running this data bank, and for adding new information to it. The programme produces printed catalogues that offer a wide variety of entries into the collection. It is estimated that the entire registered collection of the museum can be transferred to the new system in about five years. Co-operation with other institutions may lead to a national data bank for geological collections.

Description: By means of modernized sieving techniques 110 m3 of matrix from a gully filling in the Tegelen Clay were sieved. This yielded a good collection of small mammals, which clarifies the stratigraphic position of the Tiglian, a collection of other vertebrates, a small collection of mollusks, and a vast amount of plant material. A good collection of mollusks was made through classical collecting techniques. The faunal lists in this paper constitute a considerable enlargement of the known Tegelen fauna. Collecting is continuing, and further additions to the fauna may be expected.
