Abstract:
The dissociation constant of deuterium peroxide has been determined from measurements of the pH of mixtures of D 2 O 2 /NaODinD 2 O. At 25 °C, pK a = 12.35 (5), confirming the value previously deduced from a kinetic study of the reactions of muonium with H 2 O 2 and D 2 O 2 . The enthalpy and entropy of dissociation of D 2 O 2 are estimated to be 34.7 (8.8) kJ mol −1 and −120 (30) J K −1 respectively.
