Abstract:
Trimesityl vanadium is able to polymerize butadiene whereby polymers are formed with nearly equal portions of cis‐1,4‐, trans‐1,4‐ and 1,2‐structure units after a long incubation period. By the addition of AlBr 3 the polymerization is started immediately but the polymers have lower molecular weights. If a C 4 hydrocarbon mixture is used as a source for butadiene, formation of copolymers with isobutene results in which the isobutene blocks are separated by butadiene units.
