Abstract:
Bolometric diagnostics on fusion devices usually suffer from inadequate ;D performances: moderate S/N ratio, limited time and space resolution, radiation and neutron induced damage (particularly important for the next generation of fusion devices). A new bolometric system in which a blackened foil exposed to the plasma is monitored on its back side by an IR camera, is described. It is first demonstrated that the foil preserves, within a given time and space resolution, a linear relation between the incoming plasma radiation and the IR emission. Then the S/N ratio is derived as a function of the various system parameters. Representative values of resolution and S/N are computed for a realistic set of operational conditions.
