Abstract:
The electrical conductivity σ and the thermopower S of amorphous germanium-copper alloys have been measured at pressures up to 10 GPa and temperatures down to 80 K using a diamond anvil cell. The temperature dependence of σ from 80 K to 310 K obeys the Mott's T -1/4 relation for variable-range hopping of carriers in the localized states at the Fermi level. A parameter for temperature variation of σ, T 0 1/4 increases below 2 GPa, and decreases above 2 GPa. The thermopower S has a positive value, and also shows a maximum at 2GPa. From these experimental results, the pressure dependence of the density of states for amorphous germanium alloy is discussed.
