Abstract:
The optical frequency detuning characteristics of magnitude and
phase of nonlinear susceptibility were investigated in a methyl orange-doped poly(vinyl alcohol) thin film. The negative ratio
(- n 2 ′ / n 2 ′′ ) of the real part to the
imaginary part of the complex nonlinear refractive index is found to increase linearly with the detuning parameter (δ) as predicted in
the two-level model. It is also found that the magnitude of the complex nonlinear refractive index decreases as the input frequency
approaches the resonance frequency due to a depletion in the number of trans molecules parallel to the polarization direction of the light wave.
