Abstract: With the rapid growth of the Internet, how to get information from this huge information space becomes an even more important problem. In this paper, An Intelligence Chinese Document Semantic Indexing System; ICDSIS, is proposed. Some new technologies are integrated in ICDSIS to obtain good performance. ICDSIS is composed of four key procedures. A parallel, distributed and configurable Spider is used for information gather; a multi-hierarchy document classification approach combining the information gain initially processes gathered web documents; a swarm intelligence based document clustering method is used for information organization; a concept-based retrieval interface is applied for user interactive retrieval. ICDSIS is an all-sided solution for information retrieval on the Internet.

Abstract: Electron field emission from carbon nanotubes prepared using microwave plasma assisted CVD has been investigated. The nanotubes, ranging from 50 to 120 nm in diameter and a few tens of microns in length, were formed under methane and hydrogen plasma at 720°C with the aid of iron-oxide particles. The morphology and growth direction of the nanotubes are found to be strongly influenced by the flow ratio of methane to hydrogen. However, the electron field emission from these massive mantubes show similar characteristics, i.e., high emission current at low electric fields.

Abstract: Data warehouse contains vast amount of data to support complex queries of various Decision Support Systems (DSSs). It needs to store materialized views of data, which must be available consistently and instantaneously. Using a frame metadata model, this paper presents an architecture of a universal data warehousing with different data models. The frame metadata model represents the metadata of a data warehouse, which structures an application domain into classes, and integrates schemas of heterogeneous databases by capturing their semantics. A star schema is derived from user requirements based on the integrated schema, catalogued in the metadata, which stores the schema of relational database (RDB) and object-oriented database (OODB). Data materialization between RDB and OODB is achieved by unloading source database into sequential file and reloading into target database, through which an object relational view can be defined so as to allow the users to obtain the same warehouse view in different data models simultaneously. We describe our procedures of building the relational view of star schema by multidimensional SQL query, and the object oriented view of the data warehouse by Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) through method call, derived from the integrated schema. To validate our work, an application prototype system has been developed in a product sales data warehousing domain based on this approach.

Abstract: In this paper, we present a novel scheme on video content representation by exploring the spatio-temporal information. A pseudo-object-based shot representation containing more semantics is proposed to measure shot similarity and force competition approach is proposed to group shots into scene based on content coherences between shots. Two content descriptors, color objects: Dominant Color Histograms (DCH) and Spatial Structure Histograms (SSH), are introduced. To represent temporal content variations, a shot can be segmented into several subshots that are of coherent content, and shot similarity measure is formulated as subshot similarity measure that serves to shot retrieval. With this shot representation, scene structure can be extracted by analyzing the splitting and merging force competitions at each shot boundary. Experimental results on real-world sports video prove that our proposed approach for video shot retrievals achieve the best performance on the average recall (AR) and average normalized modified retrieval rank (ANMRR), and Experiment on MPEG-7 test videos achieves promising results by the proposed scene extraction algorithm.
