Abstract:
Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy was applied to observe reduced L ‐glutathione [L‐Glut(R)] molecules self‐assembled on a silver surface and the effect of Pb 2+ on them. The adsorption structure suggests that the mercapto group of the L‐Glut(R) molecule is covalently bonded to the silver surface along with the imine group, amino group and entire carboxyl group in a perpendicular orientation after self‐reorganization. Results of SERS experiment show that Pb 2+ influences the structure of L‐glutathione monolayers as a result of the binding reaction possibly occurring between Pb 2+ and the carboxyl and the amino groups.
