Abstract: The binding energy of anatase TiO2, in which the Ti was substituted by other transition metals in the 4th, 5th and 6th periods of the periodic system of the elements, has been calculated by using first principles method. The doping limits of V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo and W are 61.5%, 39.7%, 88.2%, 100.0%, 65.0%, and 63.2%, respectively predicted by the calculated binding energy, while the doping limits of other transition metals are much lower. So, these transition metals can easily be doped into the anatase structure theoretically while it is difficult for the others. And the band structure and density of states (DOS) of V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo and W doped anatase TiO2 have also been calculated and analyzed.

Abstract: Titanate nanotubes have been directly prepared by hydrothermally treating P25 powders in NaOH aqueous solution. Effect of calcination temperature on crystal phase, morphologies and specific surface area of the as-synthesized nanotubes has been investigated in detail. The Na2Ti3O7 tubular structure could be kept well even after calcination at 600 °C and began to transform to Na2Ti6O13 nanorods at around 645 °C. The specific surface area of the as-synthesized nanotubes was 200.6 m2/g and reached to the maximum of 347.9 m2/g after calcination at 300 °C and then decreased sharply with the further increase of the calcination temperature.

Abstract: Armos fiber (F-12 aramid fiber in paper) was provided with broad application foreground as reinforcement material for advanced composites in aviation and spaceflight field, due to its outstanding properties, such as high modulus, high strength, high temperature resistance, erosion resistance and so on. However, the exertion of property was still limited by slippery surface, low surface energy and weak interfacial adhesion performance. In this study, the effects of oxygen plasma treatment time on polar functional groups introduced onto the fiber surface, surface free energy and surface topographic images were discussed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, dynamic contact angle analysis system (DCA) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), respectively. It was found that the content of oxygen element and polar functional groups on fiber surface were all increased obviously after oxygen plasma treatment. The content of oxygen element on surface for untreated F-12 aramid fiber was 11.13%, while it increased to 15.20% after oxygen plasma treatment for 10 min; The content of polar functional groups on surface for untreated F-12 aramid fiber was 28.14%, while it increased to 38.11% after oxygen plasma treatment for 10 min. The polar component (γp) of fiber surface energy increased sharply from 6.82 mN/m to 36.68 mN/m after 10 min plasma treatment, the total surface free energy was increased from 46.26 mN/m to 64.66 mN/m.The results indicated that oxygen plasma treatment had introduced a large amount of reactive functional groups onto the fiber surface, and these groups can form together as covalent bonding to improve the surface wettability and increase the surface energy of fibers. At the same time, oxygen plasma treatment was able to generate a mass of bulges and grooves on F-12 aramid fiber surface, which had an active effect on increasing the chemical bond and mechanical function between fiber and resin and enhancing the interfacial adhesion performance of composite. The fiber surface grooves had been increased with the time prolonging before 10 min while decreased after 10 min, the results maybe relate to partial organic on fiber surface melting. It had an adverse effect on the interfacial adhesion properties of composite. Therefore, the optimum plasma treatment time was between 5 min and 10 min.

Abstract: It is very important to study the pristine stress field in Civil, Mining, Petroleum engineering as well as in Geology, Geophysics, and Seismology. There are various methods of determination of in-situ stress in rock mass. However, hydraulic fracturing techniques is the most convenient method to determine and interpret the test results. Based on an hydraulic fracturing stress measurement campaign at an underground liquefied petroleum gas storage project which locates in ZhuHai, China, this paper briefly describes the various uses of stress measurement, details of hydraulic fracturing test system, test procedure adopted and the concept of hydraulic fracturing in arriving at the in-situ stresses of the roc k mass.

Abstract: Effects of titanium refining methods on the microstructure and mechanical properties of A356 alloys were studied. The results showed that the A356 alloys refining by electrolytic low titanium Al alloys had excellent grain refinement effect and high age-hardening behavior comparing with the traditional A356 alloys. By means of DSC analyses, the solidification characteristics and the age-hardening behavior were discussed. The results showed that the E-A356 alloys had more powerful nucleation potency than that of the M-A356 alloys. The exothermic peaks of β// phase was shifted to a slightly lower temperature, and the rate of the continuous transition from GP zone to metastable phases increased.

Abstract: Behaviors of CO2 and pulsed YAG laser melting of ZrSiO4 have been investigated using infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The laser-melted ZrSiO4 decomposed into binary oxides (ZrO2 and SiO2), while other phases or complex ZrSiO4 tetrahedron networks are also observed. The local structures and the phases of the quenched melts depend strongly on the quenching rate and melting conditions. Monoclinic ZrO2 are found to be the main ZrO2 phase in the samples treated by CO2 laser, although tetragonal ZrO2 was found near boundaries between the untreated and melted regions. High concentrations of tetragonal ZrO2 were detected in the samples treated by pulsed YAG lasers. Observations indicate that the formation of tetragonal ZrO2 is related to relatively high quench rates. Micro-IR data from areas near the boundaries between the quenched melts and untreated zircon show systematic variations of local structures and compositions. A small region with relatively low density between the untreated and melted boundaries was observed, which consists of tetragonal ZrO2 or glassy ZrO2, and SiO2. Broad vibrational bands occur in the wave number region where the characteristic frequencies of zircon are located. This observation could indicate the possible existence of small amounts of glassy ZrSiO4 in the melt state of zircon, although zircon tends to decompose above the melting point.

Abstract: In this study, some low-titanium aluminum alloys produced by electrolysis were prepared and the effect of various titanium contents on microstructure and tensile property of Zn-Al alloy was investigated. The test results showed that addition of titanium by electrolysis is an effective way to refine the grain size of Zn-Al alloy. As the titanium content is 0.04 wt%, the grain size becomes to be a minimum value and the tensile property of the alloy reaches to the maximum. Electrolysis showed that titanium atoms are to be some inherent particles in low-titanium aluminum alloy. These titanium atoms enter into the aluminum melt liquid and spread to the whole melt rapidly under stirring action of electromagnetic field of the electric current. The heterogeneous phase nuclei are high melting TiC and TiAl3 particles formed from in-situ precipitating trace C and Ti during cooling process. These in-situ precipitating heterogeneous nucleation sites with small dimension, high dispersity, cleaning interface and fine soakage with melt, have better capacity of heterogeneous nucleation than of exotic particles. It may inhibit grain growth faster and more effective in pinning dislocations, grain boundaries or sub-boundaries.

Abstract: The microstructures characteristics of interface and wear resistance Of ZnAl27 composite reinforced by SiC particles have been studied by means of SEM and HRTEM. The results shown that SiC particles could be distributed in ZnAl27 alloy uniformly, and the excellent combined interface between SiC particles and ZA27 matrix is formed. CuZn4 could nucleate on SiC particles and grow up at higher speed along SiC particles than at the vertical direction. The wear resistance of the ZnAl27 alloy could be increased remarkably due to the addition of SiC particles. When the SiC particles are added to 30%, the wear resistance was raised by 126.5 times

Abstract: In the present work, rapidly solidified hypereutectic Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloys strips was prepared by single roller melt-spinning method. The microstructures, phase and morphology characteristics of the resultant strips were characterized by means of SEM, TEM and XRD technique. The results show that the grains are refined after rapid solidification processing, and the micro-nanocrystals are formed. Compared with equilibrium solidification, the microstructures are changed obviously. The nucleation and growth of primary silicon are suppressed and primary silicon can not deposited, meanwhile, α-Al phase is nucleated which prior to eutectic. Therefore, the microstructures become into the metastable state. The microstructures of the strips are composed of primary micro-nanostructure α phase and feather-needles-like (α+Si) eutectic which set in the α phase. The mechanism of the formation for microstructures of melt-spinning Al–Si alloy have also been discussed.

Abstract: The solidification process, the formation mechanism and distribution law of microporosity of the ball milling machine head cover made by SVEDALA corporation of USA were simulated by computer. The Solidworks software was used to generate three-dimensional model of cast parts and the Hua-casting software was employed to simulate the casting process. The simulated results show that significant microporosity was found in the middle of two casting heads and at the place of gudgeon journal because of insufficient chilling degree. The processing rationality was judged through the computer-aided technology, by which some drawbacks of the traditional process were overcome and the process design quality was improved.
