Notes: A highly sensitive method for detecting oligonucleotide targets has been developed usingquantum dot (QD) functionalized nanotubes (NTs) that contain a cascade energy band-gaparchitecture. Their assembly with different types of QDs by the layer-by-layer (LBL) allowed forthe formation of fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) structures in the NTs resulting inan enhanced fluorescence emission from dye labeled oligonucleotide targets captured by probeDNA through hybridization. This approach results in a significant enhancement of detection of dyelabeled oligonucleotide targets. The promising increase in detection sensitivity allows for lowdetection limits by tuning the QD emission, adding other types of QDs, or adjusting the distancebetween all photoactive compounds in the NTs. Hence, the strategy used here to produce newhybrid materials may pave a way for broadening application of NTs in the field of biochemicalmaterials, e.g. sensitive biosensors

Notes: Abstract The pharmacokinetics of cefroxadin have been studied after the administration of single oral and intravenous doses to healthy volunteers. Cefroxadin was assayed by HPLC. The kinetics in plasma following i.v. administration were described by using a three-compartment model. An additional disposition phase was observed following oral administration that could not be detected after the low i.v. dose. The terminal half-life was 1.03 h. The apparent volume of distribution at the steady state was consistent with a diffusion of the antibiotic in all extracellular fluids. The AUCafter oral administration was linearly related to the dose. The urinary excretion amounted to 95% of the dose with virtually complete absorption of orally administered drug.

Notes: Summary The AMP deaminase has been purified 450–500 fold from 20,000 g supernatants from trout gill. The procedure comprised cellulose phosphate and DEAE-cellulose chromatography. The gill appeared to contain different isoenzymes as indicated by different chromatographic behaviour on cellulose phosphate and different heat stabilities. The two major isoenzymes were compared with respect to their pH optima and the effect of temperature, ATP and inorganic phosphate. The pH optimum is about pH 6.7 at low substrate concentration. A second optimum is found in phosphate buffer. The substrate saturation curve is hyperbolic, even in the absence of KCl or ATP. ATP is an activator of the enzyme in the absence of KCl, but is without effect in the presence of monovalent cations. Among the monovalent cations tested, Na+ is the most potent activator followed by K+ and NH 4 + . Inorganic phosphate is an inhibitor of gill AMP deaminase increasing the affinity for its substrate but having no effect on the maximal velocity or the Hill coefficient. The inhibition by phosphate is partially reversed by ATP. ADP and GTP are competitive inhibitors of the enzyme. In addition, the enzyme showed negative cooperativity in the presence of ATP or GTP.
