Abstract:
There is a high prevalence of smoking‐related emphysema in IPF and rheumatoid lung, often associated with a low pack‐year smoking history. Fibrotic abnormalities on HRCT are coarser in smokers with both disorders. These observations raise the possibility of shared mechanisms between fibrogenesis and smoking‐related damage.
