We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the comments of Mabalirajan et al. (1) on our recent article (2). Their three critical points are addressed below.i) 15LO1 is the major epithelial form of 15-lipoxygenase 1 (15LO1) and the source of 15-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (15HETE). Macrophages and eosinophils also contribute to lung 15LO1 and 15HETE levels in free and/or conjugated forms. However, the relative contribution from cell type to cell type was not the point of the study (2).
