    Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of sociodemographic, psychosocial, and behavioral characteristics with screen time among school-age children in Korea. This study employed a nonexperimental, cross-sectional study design. A total of 370 children attending four elementary schools participated in the study. Self-report method was used, and instruments included screen time (time spent on TV/video/computer/video games), sleep duration, eating behavior, pros and cons of exercise, and exercise self-efficacy. According to the results, 45.7% of the children had screen time of 1–2.9 hr/day and 8.9% had 3 or more hr/day. Increased screen time showed an association with gender (boy), higher body mass index, fast food consumption, higher cons of exercise, having a working mother, and attendance at a school in an inner city area ( p 〈 .05). Understanding the factors associated with screen time may provide useful information in the development of health promotion programs aimed at decreasing sedentary behaviors.

    Abstract: Chondromyxoid fibroma is a rare benign primary bone tumor of cartilage. Despite a characteristic radiographic appearance, chondromyxoid fibroma with atypical radiographic findings may mimic more common tumors. Purpose To describe the MR findings of chondromyxoid fibroma. Material and Methods MR images of 19 histopathologically confirmed chondromyxoid fibromas were retrospectively analyzed for signal intensity, periosteal reaction, adjacent abnormal bone marrow and soft tissue signal, and patterns of contrast enhancement. Results All cases of chondromyxoid fibroma showed hypointense to intermediate signal intensity and internal hyperintense foci were observed in seven (37%) cases on T1-weighted images. On T2-weighted images, all lesions were hyperintense: peripheral intermediate signal band with central hyperintense signal in 11 (58%) of 19 lesions, whereas diffusely hyperintense with heterogeneous pattern in eight (42%). Periosteal reaction was observed in 11 (58%) of 19 cases. Adjacent abnormal bone marrow or soft tissue signal was observed in 12 (63%) or 14 (74%) of 19 cases, respectively. On contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images, peripheral nodular enhancement was observed in 69% (11/16) and diffuse contrast enhancement was observed in 31% (5/16) with homogeneous ( n = 3) or heterogeneous ( n = 2) patterns. Among the cases with peripheral nodular enhancement, the peripheral nodular enhancing portion generally corresponded to the peripheral intermediate signal band on T2-weighted images, although the peripheral enhancement was not as wide as a band of intermediate signal intensity. On the other hand, the central non-enhancing portion generally corresponded to the central hyperintense signal intensity on T2-weighted images. Conclusion The helpful features of chondromyxoid fibroma are the peripheral intermediate signal band and central hyperintense signal on T2-weighted images, generally corresponding to the peripheral nodular enhancement and central non-enhancing portion on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images, respectively.

    Abstract: Adenoma malignum, also known as minimal deviation adenocarcinoma, is a subtype of mucinous adenocarcinoma of the cervix. Purpose To evaluate the clinical, pathologic, and imaging features of the adenoma malignum of the uterine cervix. Material and Methods We retrospectively analyzed the CT and MRI findings in 13 patients: size, endoluminal fluid, appearance of the solid and cystic component, margin, enhancement, characteristics of locules of the cystic lesion, tumor spread, and associated ovarian lesion. Clinical and pathologic features were determined in 24 patients. Results The mean of the major tumor diameter was 4.1 cm (range, 2.2-6.5 cm). In the imaging features, 77% of 13 tumors demonstrated endoluminal fluid. All tumors showed enhancing solid components; 62% were multicystic and 38% had solid lesions. Most solid lesions exhibited an irregular margin (80%). The locules of the multicystic lesions tended to have smooth margins (75%), to have an average major diameter of ≤1 cm (88%), and to be 11 -20 in number (75%). The solid lesions were associated with invasion and metastases (60%). Clinically, 38% of 24 patients had watery discharge and 13% had Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, while pathologically, most patients were low stage (I or II) (83%). Over the 2-year follow-up of 17 patients, 82% was free from disease. The patients with more aggressive tumors or an unfavorable prognosis that manifested as tumor recurrence or metastasis tended to have invasion, watery discharges, high stages (III or IV) (100%) and solid lesions, metastases, and associated ovarian lesions (67%). Conclusion Awareness of imaging features as well as clinicopathologic manifestations of adenoma malignum can aid in accurate diagnosis, treatment, and prediction of prognosis.

    Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the coping strategies and self-concept of Korean female early adolescents. These adolescents ( n = 351) were enrolled in a middle school in Seoul. The subjects completed the Multidimensional Self-Concept Scale and Coping Responses Inventory questionnaires. The subjects exhibited the greatest positivity with regard to family self-concept and the greatest negativity with regard to academic self-concept. The subjects most frequently used the seeking guidance strategy of approach coping and the seeking alternative rewards strategy of avoidance coping. Self-concept was positively or negatively related with various coping skills. Using content analysis, seven categories including discord in family relationships were identified. The results of this study provide information that will aid school nurses working with adolescents with regard to helping the adolescents develop a positive self-concept and more effective coping strategies.

    Abstract: There is no doubt that the therapeutic efficacy of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) needs improvement. SDF-1 (chemokine for MSC homing) and its receptor CXCR4 play a critical role in the migration of MSCs in ischemia. We investigated the effects of the therapeutic application of MSCs transfected to overexpress CXCR4 using an adenoviral construct in the rat stroke model. Both flow cytometry and Western blot analysis indicated that the level of CXCR4 expression was low in naive hMSCs but was consistently high in CXCR4-hMSCs. In vivo migration test using the transwell system showed that the degree of migration was increased in CXCR4-hMSCs compared with the naive hMSCs and was completely blocked by treatment with AMD3100, an antagonist of the CXCR4 receptor. Compared with rats that received naive MSCs, behavioral recovery was more pronounced in rats that received CXCR4-hMSCs ( p = 0.023). An immunohistochemistry study using human nuclear antibody (NuMA) showed that the migration of hMSCs in the ischemic boundary zone was increased after 3 days of injection of CXCR4-hMSCs compared with after injection of naive hMSCs. In addition, polymerase chain reaction was performed to assess the biodistribution of human-specific DNA outside the brain after intravenous injection of hMSCs. The expression of human-specific DNA was increased in the lungs of rats receiving naive MSCs, whereas the human-specific DNA expression was increased in the brain of rats receiving CXCR4-hMSCs. Our results indicate that MSCs transfected with the CXCR4 gene expression cassette may be useful in the treatment of cerebral infarction and may represent a new strategy to enhance the efficacy of MSC therapy.

    Abstract: Background: Percutaneous injection of bone cement (acrylic cement) during percutaneous kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty can cause symptomatic or asymptomatic complications due to leakage, extravasation or vascular migration of cement. Purpose: To investigate and to compare the incidence and site of local leakage or complications of bone cement after percutaneous kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty using bone cement. Material and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 473 cases of percutaneous kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty performed under fluoroscopic guidance. Of the 473 cases, follow-up CT scans that covered the treated bones were available for 83 cases (59 kyphoplasty and 24 vertebroplasty). Results: The rate of local leakage of bone cement was 87.5% (21/24) for percutaneous vertebroplasty and 49.2% (29/59) for kyphoplasty. The most common site of local leakage was perivertebral soft tissue ( n=8, 38.1%) for vertebroplasty. The most common site of local leakage was a perivertebral vein ( n=7, 24.1%) for kyphoplasty. Two cases of pulmonary cement embolism developed: one case after kyphoplasty and one case after vertebroplasty. Conclusion: Local leakage of bone cement was more common for percutaneous vertebroplasty compared with kyphoplasty ( P 〈 0.005). The most common sites of local leakage were perivertebral soft tissue and perivertebral vein.

    Abstract: The second-generation serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist palonosetron has shown improved efficacy in the prevention of both acute and delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). However, there have been no randomized controlled trials supporting the preferential use of palonosetron in triple antiemetic regimens for patients receiving multiday highly emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC). Objective: To compare the effectiveness of palonosetron-based and first-generation 5-HT3 receptor antagonist–based triple antiemetic regimens in cancer patients receiving multiday HEC. Methods: This was a review and analysis of medical record data. A total of 115 patients who had received multiday HEC were included and grouped into a palonosetron-based antiemetic group (n = 73) or a first-generation 5-HT3 receptor antagonist–based antiemetic group (n = 42). Data on CINV were collected in 24-hour intervals for 120 hours after the start of chemotherapy. Results: Complete response rates did not differ significantly between the 2 groups during any of the 3 phases: acute (0-24 hours), p = 0.877; overlap (24-120 hours), p = 0.997; and overall (0-120 hours), p = 0.723. The proportion of patients with complete control was similar between the groups during each phase: acute, p = 0.862; overlap, p = 0.838; and overall, p = 0.828. There was also no significant difference in other end points between the 2 groups. Among all patients, females experienced significantly more acute nausea (p = 0.040) and vomiting (p = 0.046) than males. Compared with nondrinkers, patients who consumed alcohol had a lower overall incidence of vomiting (p = 0.020). Conclusions: Within a triple antiemetic regimen, a palonosetron-based antiemetic regimen was not significantly different from regimens based on first-generation 5-HT3 receptor antagonists in preventing CINV during multiday HEC.
