Notizen: Summary In microperfusion experiments the reabsorption of14C-labelledl-cystine,l-cysteine, andl-arginine from rat proximal tubule was measured, and the transport interaction of these amino acids and some derivatives was tested. The following results were obtained: 1. l-arginine,l-lysine, andl-cysteine inhibitedl-cystine reabsorption. 2. Glycine, agmantine, and 2,6-diaminopimelic acid showed no influence onl-cystine reabsorption. 3. l-cysteine reabsorption was inhibited byl-arginine, but not by glycine. 4. l-cysteine and 2,6-diaminopimelic acid were unable to influence reabsorption ofl-arginine. From these results and some observations reported in the literature, the following concept is put forward for discussion.l-arginine,l-lysine andl-ornithine may be reabsorbed by two separate mechanisms in the proximal tubule.l-cystine may use only one of these ways. Here, it is possible thatl-cystine is transported asl-cysteine. This concept may find relevance in the explanation of the pathogenesis of cystinuria.
