Abstract: Two innovative financing schemes have emerged in recent years to enable suppliers to obtain financing for production. The first, purchase order financing (POF), allows financial institutions to offer loans to suppliers by considering the value of purchase orders issued by reputable buyers. Under the second, which we call buyer direct financing (BDF), manufacturers issue both sourcing contracts and loans directly to suppliers. Both schemes are closely related to the supplier’s performance risk (whether the supplier can deliver the order successfully), upon which the repayment of these loans hinges. To understand the relative efficiency of the two emerging schemes, we analyze a game-theoretical model that captures the interactions among three parties (a manufacturer, a financially constrained supplier who can exert unobservable effort to improve delivery reliability, and a bank). We find that, when the manufacturer and the bank have symmetric information, POF and BDF yield the same payoffs for all parties irrespective of the manufacturer’s control advantage under BDF. The manufacturer, however, has more flexibility under BDF in selecting contract terms. In addition, even when the manufacturer has superior information about the supplier’s operational capability, the manufacturer can efficiently signal her private information via the sourcing contract if the supplier’s asset level is not too low. As such, POF remains an attractive financing option. However, if the supplier is severely financially constrained, the manufacturer’s information advantage makes BDF the preferred financing scheme when contracting with an efficient supplier. In particular, the relative benefit of BDF (over POF) is more pronounced when the supply market contains a larger proportion of inefficient suppliers, when differences in efficiency between suppliers are greater, or when the manufacturer’s alternative sourcing option is more expensive. Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate Chinese stock market reaction to the announcements of dividend reductions and omissions. Design/methodology/approach The data sets cover the period from 1990 to 2009. A rolling portfolio approach is performed and the Fama–French three-factor model is used to calculate the post-announcement long-term abnormal returns. The matching method and the sub-sample tests are used to examine the robustness. Findings After controlling for firm size, the unexpected earnings and government ownership, no evidence of the dividend announcement drift is found. The results also show that the government ownership and the large trading play a role in explaining the post-announcement abnormal returns. Originality/value This is the first study concerning the Chinese market that examines the Chinese stock market reaction to dividend cut and omission using a long-time period of data.

Abstract: Massive stream data mining and computing require dealing with an infinite sequence of data items with low latency. As far as we know, current Stream Processing Engines (SPEs) cannot handle massive stream data efficiently due to their inability of horizontal computation modeling and lack of interactive query. In this paper, we detail the challenges of stream data processing and introduce FastFlow, a model-driven infrastructure. FastFlow differs from other existing SPEs in terms of its user-friendly interface, support of complex operators, heterogeneous outputs, extensible computing model, and real-time deployment. Further, FastFlow includes optimizers to reorganize the execution topology for batch query to reduce resource cost rather than executing each query independently.

Abstract: Data show that the United States, Europe, and even countries with lesser ties to the international financial system have suffered large permanent losses in aggregate output and employment since the financial crisis, despite unprecedented monetary injections. However, the symptoms of the Great Recession were not observed in China, despite a 45% permanent drop in its exports relative to historical trend. We study the precise channels through which the stimulus programs work in China and construct a simple model to rationalize the dramatically different impacts of stimulus programs across countries.

Abstract: Locating trapped targets using the signals of wireless devices such as mobile phones carried by targets is increasingly becoming the preferred scheme for disaster rescue. However, the accuracy of radio-localization technology currently adopted in the rescue is not high enough. To solve such problems, researchers proposed the approaches of Warwalking or Wardriving. However, both approaches are all limited by application scenarios. This paper proposes GuideLoc, a highly efficient aerial wireless localization system, which uses the target guiding technology based on region division. GuideLoc allows an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to fly over a target device and provide position coordinates of the UAV as the target location information. During the process of positioning targets, based on the result of regional division, GuideLoc uses a number of fixed antennas to get the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and angle of arrival (AOA) information of the target and estimates the target location using the information and correspondingly controls the UAV to fly towards the target. Averaging method is also applied for determining coordinates of the target. Experiment results show that GuideLoc can in short time achieve 2.7-meter positioning accuracy in average. Compared with other wireless localization methods using UAVs proposed in the literature, it shortened the flight distance by more than 50%. In addition, energy efficiency is also improved significantly.
