Abstract: Background . Chronic overnutrition leads to cardiac dysfunction and insulin (INS) resistance. Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) improves glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity in both human and animal models. In this study, we explored whether DPP-4 inhibitor sitagliptin (SIT) is involved in the protection of cardiac function and β -cell function using an obesity female mouse model. Methods . Six-week-old C57BL6/J mice were fed a high fat and fructose Western diet with DPP-4 inhibitor SIT for 12 weeks. Cardiac function was examined by echocardiography. Body weight, plasma glucose, and insulin concentrations were measured. The contents of total S6 kinase 1 (S6K1), phosphorylation of S6K1 activation, and INS docking proteins INS receptor substrates 1 and 2 (IRS-1, IRS-2) were assayed, and histology of heart tissue was performed. Results . Chronic Western diet consumption elevated plasma glucose and insulin and caused obesity, diastolic dysfunction, and β -cell dysfunction. DPP-4 inhibition with SIT resulted in reduction in body weight, fasting glucose, and plasma insulin, and improved cardiac diastolic dysfunction. SIT also decreased mTOR/S6K1 activation and prevented the degradation of IRS-1 and IRS-2. Conclusions . This study revealed pleiotropic protective effects of DPP-4 inhibitor SIT on cardiac function, glycemia, and β -cell function together with reducing S6K1 activation and IRS-1 and IRS-2 degradation in the obesity female mouse model.

Abstract: It is important to eliminate systematic biases in the field of soil moisture data assimilation. One simple method for bias removal is to match cumulative distribution functions (CDFs) of modeled soil moisture data to satellite soil moisture data. Traditional methods approximate numerical CDFs using 12 or 20 uniformly spaced samples. In this paper, we applied the Douglas–Peucker curve approximation algorithm to approximate the CDFs and found that three nonuniformly spaced samples can achieve the same reduction in standard deviation. Meanwhile, the matching results are always closely related to the temporal and spatial availability of soil moisture observed by automatic soil moisture station (ASM). We also applied the new nonuniformly spaced sampling method to a shorter time series. Instead of processing a whole year of data at once, we divided it into 12 datasets and used three nonuniformly spaced samples to approximate the model data’s CDF for each month. The matching results demonstrate that NU-CDF3 reduced the SD, improved R , and reduced the RMSD in over 70% of the stations, when compared with U-CDF12. Additionally, the SD and RMSD have been reduced by over 4% with R improved by more than 9%.

Abstract: Arsenic is very harmful to most living organisms. The solubility data of As-containing compounds are significant in geoscience and environmental science. The arsenic-incorporated natroalunite precipitation has been proposed to eliminate arsenic from water, both for industrial practice and remediation of polluted areas. Unfortunately, only few works have been made on partial arsenic incorporation in natroalunite and the thermodynamic data for natroalunite and arsenic-incorporated natroalunite now are still lacking. Moreover, the dissolution mechanisms of arsenic-incorporated natroalunites have never been studied. In the present work, the dissolution of the synthetic natroalunite [Na 0.93 (H 3 O) 0.61 Al 2.82 (SO 4 ) 2 (OH) 6 ] and the synthetic arsenic-incorporated natroalunite [Na 0.88 (H 3 O) 2.44 Al 2.35 (AsO 4 ) 0.38 (SO 4 ) 1.62 (OH) 6 ] at 25°C, 35°C, and 45°C was experimentally examined in HNO 3 solution (pH of 2.00 and 4.00) and pure water. The characterizations confirmed that the solids showed no recognizable change after dissolution. All dissolutions underwent a pH variation, which was caused by a great depleting of H 3 O + /OH − ions, typically at the reaction beginning. The dissolution in H 3 O + medium proved to be near-stoichiometric within the short beginning period, and the dissolved Na + , Al 3+ , SO 4 2− , and AsO 4 3− concentrations were stoichiometric according to the initial solids and then appeared to be nonstoichiometric with the Na/SO 4 mole ratios higher and the Al/SO 4 and AsO 4 /SO 4 mole ratios lower than the stoichiometry until the experimental end, indicating that the components were released from solid to solution preferentially after the following order: Na + (H 3 O + )  〉  SO 4 2−   〉  AsO 4 3−   〉  Al 3+ . From the experimental results under the condition of initial pH 2.00 and 25°C, the solubility products [ K sp ] and the Gibbs free energies of formation [ Δ G f ° ] were calculated to be 10 −81.02±0.33 ∼10 −81.04±0.27 and −4713 ± 2 to −4714 ± 1 kJ/mol for the natroalunite and 10 −92.30±0.30 ∼10 −92.41±0.37 and −5078 ± 2 to −5079 ± 2 kJ/mol for the arsenic-incorporated natroalunite, respectively. The thermodynamic quantities, Δ G ° , Δ H ° , Δ S ° , and Δ C p ° , were determined to be 462303.43 J/K·mol, 122466.83 J/mol, −1140.39 J/K·mol, and 4280.13 J/K·mol for the natroalunite dissolution reaction at initial pH 2.00 and 25°C and to be 526925.48 J/K·mol, 159674.76 J/mol, −1232.38 J/K·mol, and 1061.12 J/K·mol for the dissolution of the arsenic-incorporated natroalunite at initial pH 2.00 and 25°C, respectively.

Abstract: SnO 2 in the Ag/SnO 2 contact material is a kind of high hardness and almost insulated wide bandgap semiconductor material. In the process of use, the contact resistance is larger and the temperature rise is higher, which reduces the reliability of contacts and shortens the electrical life. In order to improve the properties of Ag/SnO 2 contact materials, based on the first principle of density functional theory, this paper presents a method of doping SnO 2 with the calculation of different proportions of rare earth Ce electrical and mechanical properties. The results of energy band, density of state, and elastic constant show that when the doping ratio of Ce is 0.125, the electron mobility is the highest, the conductivity is the best; the hardness decreases, and the universal elastic anisotropy index is the smallest. Finally, in the experiment, SnO 2 powders with different doping ratios are prepared by the sol-gel method, and Ag/SnO 2 contacts with different doping proportions are prepared by powder metallurgy. Arc energy, contact resistance, and hardness are measured; scanning electron microscopy was used to observe and analyze the surface morphology. The final simulation and experimental results are well matched.

Abstract: Objective . Uric acid (UA) activates the NLRP3-ASC-caspase-1 axis and triggers cascade inflammatory that leads to hyperuricemic nephropathy and hyperuricemia-induced renal tubular injury. The original study aims to verify the positive effects of the traditional Chinese medicinal formula Shizhifang (SZF) on ameliorating the hyperuricemia, tubular injury, and inflammasome infiltration in the kidneys of hyperuricemic lab rats. Method . Twenty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: control group, oxonic acid potassium (OA) model group, OA + SZF group, and OA + Allopurinol group. We evaluated the mediating effects of SZF on renal mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress (OS) products, protein expression of NLRP3-ASC-caspase-1 axis, and downstream inflammatory factors IL-1 β and IL-18 after 7 weeks of animals feeding. Result . SZF alleviated OA-induced hyperuricemia and inhibited OS in hyperuricemic rats ( P 〈 0.0 5 ). SZF effectively suppressed the expression of gene and protein of the NLRP3-ASC-caspase-1 axis through accommodating the ROS-TXNIP pathway ( P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion . Our data suggest that SZF alleviates renal tubular injury and inflammation infiltration by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation triggered by mitochondrial ROS in the kidneys of hyperuricemic lab rats.

Abstract: In order to improve the detection accuracy of pulmonary nodules in CT image, considering two problems of pulmonary nodules detection model, including unreasonable feature structure and nontightness of feature representation, a pulmonary nodules detection algorithm is proposed based on SVM and CT image feature-level fusion with rough sets. Firstly, CT images of pulmonary nodule are analyzed, and 42-dimensional feature components are extracted, including six new 3-dimensional features proposed by this paper and others 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional features. Secondly, these features are reduced for five times with rough set based on feature-level fusion. Thirdly, a grid optimization model is used to optimize the kernel function of support vector machine (SVM), which is used as a classifier to identify pulmonary nodules. Finally, lung CT images of 70 patients with pulmonary nodules are collected as the original samples, which are used to verify the effectiveness and stability of the proposed model by four groups’ comparative experiments. The experimental results show that the effectiveness and stability of the proposed model based on rough set feature-level fusion are improved in some degrees.
