Abstract: Background . Glioma is the most common malignant brain tumor and the patients are prone to poor prognosis. Due to limited treatments, new drug exploration has become a general trend. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the new drugs C 18 H 17 NO 6 and its combination with Scutellarin on glioma cells and the underlying mechanism. Method . U251 and LN229 cells were administrated with C 18 H 17 NO 6 and its combination with Scutellarin. The proliferation ability of glioma cells was determined by cell counting kit-8, plate clone formation assay, and EdU incorporation assay. The cell cycle and apoptosis detection were detected by flow cytometry. Moreover, TUNEL assay was also used for cell apoptosis analysis. Then, the transfer ability of cells was achieved through wound healing assay. Furthermore, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and western bolt analysis were used to detect the mRNA expression and protein expression, respectively. Lastly, immunofluorescence was for the purity identification of astrocyte. Result . The results showed that, with the increasing dose of C 18 H 17 NO 6 , the cell inhibition rate, the cells in G1 phase, and the apoptosis rate were gradually increased, but the clone number, proliferation rate, and the cells in G2 and S phases were gradually decreased in comparison with control group. However, with the increase of C 18 H 17 NO 6 , the transferred rate of U251 and LN229 was not significantly augmented, expect that on U251 in C 18 H 17 NO 6 5 μ M group. In addition, Scutellarin 200 μ M has little effect on proliferation, with the inhibition rate 10-20% and proliferation rate except U251 in Scutellarin 200 μ M group similar to that in control group. Moreover, compared to control group, Scutellarin 300 μ M increased the U251 cells in G2 and S phases and the apoptosis rate of LN229 but decreased the LN229 cells in G2 and S phases. Besides, in Scutellarin 200 μ M group, the transfer ability of LN229 was inhibited, but not in U251. Furthermore, if C 18 H 17 NO 6 was combined with Scutellarin 200/300 μ M, the proliferation and transferred ability were suppressed and the apoptosis was elevated in LN229 cell in comparison with C 18 H 17 NO 6 alone. Dramatically, the combined effect on U251 was the exact opposite. Importantly, there was little toxicity on astrocyte under the dose of C 18 H 17 NO 6 and Scutellarin in the study. In molecular level, the mRNA and protein expression of Fas-associated factor 1 (FAF1) expression in U251 and LN229 were upregulated by C 18 H 17 NO 6 and its combination with Scutellarin, especially the protein expression. Conclusion . C 18 H 17 NO 6 could efficiently suppress cell proliferation and induce cell apoptosis in glioma cells, and its combination with Scutellarin had a promoting effect, in which the underlying mechanism referred to the upregulation of Fas-associated factor 1.

Abstract: 18F-FDG PET/MRI has been applied to the diagnosis and preoperative staging in various tumor types; however, reports using PET/MRI in gastric cancer are rare because of motion artifacts. We investigated the value of PET/MRI for preoperative staging compared with PET/CT in gastric cancer (GC). Thirty patients with confirmed GC underwent PET/CT and PET/MRI. TNM staging for each patient was determined from the PET/MRI and PET/CT images. The diagnostic performance of PET/MRI and PET/CT was calculated compared with the pathologic TNM stage. The two methods were compared using statistical analyses. The accuracy for T staging between PET/MRI and PET/CT was 76.9% vs. 57.7%, respectively. In T 1 and T 4a staging, the sensitivity and specificity for PET/MRI vs. PET/CT was 1.0 vs. 0.6 and 1.0 vs. 0.8, respectively. The area under the curve (AUC) for PET/MRI vs. PET/CT was 1.00 vs. 0.78 in the T 1 stage, 0.73 vs. 0.66 in the T 2 stage, 0.72 vs. 0.57 in the T 3 stage, and 0.86 vs. 0.83 in the T 4 stage. The accuracy for N staging of PET/MRI vs. PET/CT was 53.9% vs. 34.0%, and that for N 0 vs. N + was 85.0% vs. 77.0%. The sensitivity for PET/MRI in N3 staging was 0.67 and 0 for PET/CT. There was a statistically significant difference in the AUC for N 1 staging (PET/MRI vs. PET/CT, 0.63 vs. 0.53, p = 0.03 ). SUVmax/ADC positively correlated with tumor volume and Ki-67. PET/MRI performs more accurately in TNM staging compared with PET/CT and is optimal for accurate N staging. SUVmax/ADC has positive correlations with tumor volume and Ki-67.

Abstract: It becomes a key technology to measure the concentration of the vehicle exhaust components with the transmission spectra. But in the conventional methods for noise reduction and baseline correction, such as wavelet transform, derivative, interpolation, polynomial fitting, and so forth, the basic functions of these algorithms, the number of decomposition layers, and the way to reconstruct the signal have to be adjusted according to the characteristics of different components in the transmission spectra. The parameter settings of the algorithms above are not transcendental, so with them, it is difficult to achieve the best noise reduction effect for the vehicle exhaust spectra which are sharp and drastic in the waveform. In this paper, an adaptive ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) denoising model based on a special normalized index optimization is proposed and used in the spectral noise reduction of vehicle exhaust NO X . It is shown with the experimental results that the method can effectively improve the accuracy of the spectral noise reduction and simplify the denoising process and its operation difficulty.

Abstract: Background . Fibrosis is a highly dynamic process caused by prolonged injury, deregulation of the normal processes of wound healing, and extensive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. During fibrosis process, multiple genes interact with environmental factors. Over recent decades, tons of fibrosis-related genes have been identified to shed light on the particular clinical manifestations of this complex process. However, the genetics information about fibrosis is dispersed in lots of extensive literature. Methods . We extracted data from literature abstracts in PubMed by text mining, and manually curated the literature and identified the evidence sentences. Results . We presented FibroAtlas, which included 1,439 well-annotated fibrosis-associated genes. FibroAtlas 1.0 is the first attempt to build a nonredundant and comprehensive catalog of fibrosis-related genes with supporting evidence derived from curated published literature and allows us to have an overview of human fibrosis-related genes.

Abstract: Objective . Moxibustion is a complementary therapy that has been used for thousands of years. Burning moxa produces smoke and inhalable particulates. Recent research has indicated that smoke inhalation is associated with negative lung effects. This study aimed to evaluate the lung function of rats after moxa smoke exposure at different concentrations. Methods . Using a randomised block experiment design, 28 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three moxa smoke groups (opacity) (n=7): low concentration (27.45 mg/m 3 ), medium concentration (168.76 mg/m 3 ), and high concentration (384.67 mg/m 3 ) with a control group. Rats in the moxa smoke groups were exposed in an automatic dynamic exposure device separately with different concentrations for 20 min/d, 6d/week, for 24 weeks. Rats in the control group were exposed in the same space without moxa smoke. Lung function was evaluated by the AniRes 2005 animal pulmonary function analysing system. Statistical Product and Service Solutions 18.0 software was used for data analysis. Results . In the study, no deaths were found in any group. There was no difference of forced expiratory volume in one second/forced vital capacity percentage (FEV1/FVC%), inspiratory resistance (Ri), and expiratory resistance (Re) among each group after 24 weeks of moxa smoke exposure (P 〉 0.05). Compared with the control group (0.33 ml/cmH 2 0), dynamic compliance (Cdyn) was reduced in the medium (0.29 ml/cmH 2 0) and high (0.25 ml/cmH 2 0) concentration groups (P 〈 0.05); however, Cdyn in the low concentration group (0.29 ml/cmH 2 0) was not significantly affected. Conclusion . Moxa smoke exposure at low concentrations did not affect the rat’s lung function. Moxa smoke of medium and high concentrations destroyed the lung function represented by decreased Cdyn. However, moxa smoke of low concentrations (27.45 mg/m 3 ) is much higher than the concentration in a regular moxibustion clinic (3.54 mg/m 3 ). Moxa smoke at higher concentrations might destroy the lung function. The safety evaluation of moxa smoke requires further research.

Abstract: Background. Some studies showed that microRNA-497 (miR-497) might act as a prognostic biomarker of cancer. However, the conclusion was not consistent. The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic role of miR-497 in various carcinomas. Methods. We systematically searched the databases of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang Data to identify relevant studies. Two independent reviewers performed the data extraction and assessed the study quality. Hazard ratios (HRs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival/relapse-free survival (DFS/RFS) were used to assess the associations between miR-497 expression and cancer prognosis. Results. A total of 15 studies involving 1760 participants fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The lower level of miR-497 expression was significantly associated with shorter overall survival ( HR = 2.19 , 95% CI: 1.84-2.60). No significant association was found between miR-497 expression and DFS/RFS in various carcinomas ( HR = 1.17 , 95% CI: 0.53-2.57). Subgroup analyses by ethnicity and cancer type showed the consistent results. Conclusion. Our studies suggested that miR-497 might be a prognostic biomarker in cancers. However, further multicenter prospective clinical researches are needed to confirm the association between miR-497 expression and cancer prognosis.

Abstract: Scaffolds play an important role in tissue engineering and their structure and biocompatibility have great influence on cell behaviors. In this study, poly(l-lactide-co- ε -caprolactone) (PLCL) scaffolds were printed by a 3D printing technology, low-temperature deposition manufacturing (LDM), and then PLCL scaffolds were treated by alkali and coated with collagen type I (COLI). The scaffolds were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), porosity test, mechanical test, and infrared spectroscopy. The prepared PLCL and PLCL-COLI scaffolds had three-dimensional (3D) porous structure and they not only have macropores but also have micropores in the deposited lines. Although the mechanical property of PLCL-COLI was slightly lower than that of PLCL scaffold, the hydrophilicity of PLCL-COLI was significantly enhanced. Rabbit articular chondrocytes were extracted and were identified as chondrocytes by toluidine blue staining. To study the biocompatibility, the chondrocytes were seeded on scaffolds for 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 days. MTT assay showed that the proliferation of chondrocytes on PLCL-COLI scaffold was better than that on PLCL scaffold. And the morphology of cells on PLCL-COLI after 1-day culture was much better than that on PLCL. This 3D-printed PLCL scaffold coated with COLI shows a great potential application in tissue engineering.

Abstract: Purpose . To analyze and compare the clinical registration information about acupuncture and moxibustion for intervention characteristics. Methods . Clinical trials from the International Clinical Trials Registry Platform of the World Health Organization in acupuncture and moxibustion were comprehensively collected from 2013 to 2015; data were independently screened and extracted by two retrievers, and relevant data involving either basic descriptions or intervention characteristics were analyzed. Results . 425 acupuncture and moxibustion registered clinical trials were included; 88.00% (374/425) were designed as controlled studies, among which 38.59% (164/425) had sham acupuncture as the control group. The most common diseases were pain-related at approximately 19.29% (82/425) of trials. Reports on the intervention information in these acupuncture and moxibustion clinical studies were not sufficiently presented; these reports included the reporting of names of points (39.8%), the method of needle stimulation (32.5%), needle type (29.6%), needle retention time (34.1%), the number of treatment sessions (22.4%), and the frequency and duration of treatment sessions (38.1%). Conclusion . The registration information for the clinical trials of acupuncture and moxibustion was quite low according to this investigational study. Steps should be taken to improve the quality of acupuncture and moxibustion registration information.
