Description: From 1961 to 2008, the overall frequency of dust storms in northern China has shown an unquestionable reduction. However, the Hunshdak Sandy Lands of northern China display an increasing frequency in dust storm activities, especially during the period 2001 to 2008. In an attempt to explore the cause of this increase, a comprehensive investigation was conducted by examining the climate variables, the average normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and the local inhabitant migrations. The climate variables include local precipitation, temperature, aridity, evaporation, relative humidity, soil moisture and wind speed. Moreover, by analyzing the 2001–2008 average anomaly charts (relative to the 30 year climatology of 1971–2000) of the upper air and surface conditions, an advantageous atmospheric circulation background for drought development over the Hunshdak was confirmed. Meanwhile, a multivariable step-regression model was employed to distinguish the significant variables of the climate elements mentioned before. The model output suggests that aridity is the leading factor impacting the Hunshdak dust storm frequency. During 2001 to 2008, the lack of local precipitation, higher temperature and strong evaporation deteriorated the local surface condition to below that before 2000, which is verified by the reduction of vegetation cover (NDVI), soil moisture and relative humidity. Furthermore, compared to the 30 year climatology of the wind speed observed during dust storm occurrence time, the mean velocity of 2001–2008 was reduced by 3.0 m s −1 , indicating that even with relatively weaker winds, dust storms still occurred primarily due to the degeneration of surface conditions around the Hunshdak. Description: An efficient route for the synthesis of (−)-physostigmine analogs 1a – 1g and 2a – 2k is described. Analogs 1a – 1g were synthesized via copper(I)-catalyzed cycloaddition between the optically pure azide 10 and a variety of alkynes. Similarly, analogs 2a – 2k were prepared through ‘three-component Huisgen cycloaddition’ using various amines, propargyl bromine, and 10 in H 2 O. Facile preparation of 10 via MacMillan 's organocatalysis has made it possible to generate a great diversity of natural product-like compounds that can be screened for anti- Alzheimer 's effects.

Description: In order to explore the thermal kinetics of nano Al-micro MnO 2 thermite system, the Al/MnO 2 thermite sample was mixed by the ultrasonic dispersion method. On the basis of the study of thermal decomposition of MnO 2 powder, the thermal performance of the sample was study by simultaneous thermal analysis technique at the temperature range from room temperature to 1000°C, which could found the thermite reaction occurred in 650-660°C before the melting of Al, which belongs to solid state reactions with the 350 J/g heat releasing. Besides, the microstructure changes of the thermite during reaction were observed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). Based on the TG-DSC test with multiple heating rates and using of the activation energy calculated by Kissniger method, it could be proved the sample had good stability and safety performance.

Description: There has been growing interest in revealing exotic properties of chiral phonons since they were found in honeycomb AB lattice, and very recently they were experimentally verified in a tungsten diselenide monolayer (2018 Science 359 579). In this work, we manipulate phonon chirality through interface transmission via a one-dimensional atomic junction model by using the scattering boundary method. Due to the difference of phase change between two transverse directions induced by the anisotropy at interface coupling, the phonon polarization can be tuned between circular and linear in the high-frequency range. In a double-junction atomic model with an anisotropic center, we find that the phase change accumulates when the phonon transmits through the interface material thus the phonon can be tuned between different chirality in the medium frequency range. The phase change is found to linearly depend on the width of the interface material, while the transmission coeffic...

Description: The parametric design macro programs of two basic types of single-layer hemi-ellipsoidal latticed shell are developed by using APDL (Ansys Parametric Design Language) parameterized design language. The parametric design of single-layer hemi-ellipsoidal latticed shell structures can be built under the condition of giving the macroscopic geometric parameters such as specifical parameter t, parameter k, span S1, span S2, rise f, valley number Kn, radial node number Nx etc. Ansys software is applied to study comparison of characteristics of the Kewitte type net shell structure of different vector height f, radial node number Nx and boundary constraints. The results show that modeling design of hemi-ellipsoidal latticed shell can be built conveniently and quickly by the application of parametric design of macro program. The three-way grid type is more reasonable force performance, and it’s mechanical performance is better when the span ratio is 1/2. Thus it is suggested to give prior...

Description: A novel catalyst for bisphenol-A synthesis was prepared by bis (2-mercapto-ethyl) amine adsorbed on macroporous sulfonic resin through neutralization reaction. The physicochemical properties of two resin catalysts before and after bis (2-mercapto-ethyl) amine absorption were compared by scanning electron microscope and nitrogen adsorption. The kinetic of the new catalyst preparation process was studied and found this is a chemical adsorption and endothermic process. The adsorption rate is mainly controlled by the intra-particle diffusion, affected by boundary layer diffusion and chemical reaction as well. The thermodynamic activation parameters were calculated. Compared with unmodified catalyst, the modified resin catalyst showed higher selectivity and acetone conversion in the continuous bisphenol-A synthesis process. © 2013 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2013

Description: Micro air vehicles (MAVs) have a wide application such as the military reconnaissance, meteorological survey, environmental monitoring, and other aspects. In this paper, attitude and altitude control for Quad-Rotor type MAVs is discussed and analyzed. For the attitude control, a new method by using three gyroscopes and one triaxial accelerometer is proposed to estimate the attitude angle information. Then with the approximate linear model obtained by system identification, Model Reference Sliding Mode Control (MRSMC) technique is applied to enhance the robustness. In consideration of the relatively constant altitude model, a Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller is adopted. The outdoor experimental results demonstrate the superior stability and robustness of the controllers.

Description: ABSTRACT ClC-3 chloride channel has been proved to have a relationship with the expression of osteogenic markers during osteogenesis, persistent static compression can upregulate the expression of ClC-3 and regulate osteodifferentiation in osteoblasts. However, there was no study about the relationship between the expression of ClC-3 and osteodifferentiation after dynamic compression. In this study, we applied dynamic compression on MC3T3-E1 cells to detect the expression of ClC-3, runt-related transcription factor 2 ( Runx2 ), bone morphogenic protein-2 ( BMP-2 ), osteopontin ( OPN ), nuclear-associated antigen Ki67 ( Ki67 ) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen ( PCNA ) in biopress system, then we investigated the expression of these genes after dynamic compression with Chlorotoxin (specific ClC-3 chloride channel inhibitor) added. Under transmission electron microscopy, there were more cell surface protrusions, rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, abundant glycogen and lysosomes scattered in the cytoplasm in MC3T3-E1 cells after dynamic compression. The nucleolus was more obvious. We found that ClC-3 was significantly up-regulated after dynamic compression. The compressive force also up-regulated Runx2, BMP-2 and OPN after dynamic compression for 2, 4 and 8 h. The proliferation gene Ki67 and PCNA did not show significantly change after dynamic compression for 8 h. Chlorotoxin did not change the expression of ClC-3 but reduced the expression of Runx2, BMP-2 and OPN after dynamic compression compared with the group without Cltx added. The data from the current study suggested that ClC-3 may promotes osteogenic differentiation in MC3T3-E1 cell after dynamic compression. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved

Description: Purpose To assess the amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) MRI features of isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-wildtype and IDH-mutant grade II gliomas and to test the hypothesis that the APTw signal is a surrogate imaging marker for identifying IDH mutation status preoperatively. Methods Twenty-seven patients with pathologically confirmed low-grade glioma, who were previously scanned at 3T, were retrospectively analyzed. The Mann-Whitney test was used to evaluate relationships between APTw intensities for IDH-mutant and IDH-wildtype groups, and receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to assess the diagnostic performance of APTw. Results Based on histopathology and molecular analysis, seven cases were diagnosed as IDH-wildtype grade II gliomas and 20 cases as IDH-mutant grade II gliomas. The maximum and minimum APTw values, based on multiple regions of interest, as well as the whole-tumor histogram-based mean and 50th percentile APTw values, were significantly higher in the IDH-wildtype gliomas than in the IDH-mutant groups. This corresponded to the areas under the ROC curves of 0.89, 0.76, 0.75, and 0.75, respectively, for the prediction of the IDH mutation status. Conclusion IDH-wildtype lesions typically were associated with relatively high APTw signal intensities as compared with IDH-mutant lesions. The APTw signal could be a valuable imaging biomarker by which to identify IDH1 mutation status in grade II gliomas. Description: Hydrogen band electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves have received much attention recently because they are found to frequently span larger spatial areas than the other band EMIC waves. Using test particle simulations, we study the nonlinear effects of hydrogen band EMIC waves on ring current H + ions. A dimensionless parameter R is used to characterize the competition between wave-induced and adiabatic motions. The results indicate that there are three regimes of wave-particle interactions for typical 35 keV H + ions at L =5: diffusive (quasi-linear) behavior when α eq ≤ 35° ( R ≥ 2.45), the nonlinear phase trapping when 35° 〈 α eq 〈 50° (0.75 〈 R 〈 2.45), and both the nonlinear phase bunching and phase trapping when α eq ≥ 50° ( R ≤ 0.75). The phase trapping can transport H + ions towards large pitch angle, while the phase bunching has the opposite effect. The phase trapped H + ions can be significantly accelerated (from 35 keV to over 500 keV) in about 4 minutes, and thus contribute to the formation of high energy components of ring current ions. The results suggest that the effect of hydrogen band EMIC waves is not ignorable in the nonlinear acceleration and resonance scattering of ring current H + ions.
