    Abstract: Roof-breaking characteristics and ground pressure behavior of the coalface are instrumental in guiding deep Jurassic coal seam mining, in particular in the Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia regions of China. A thick-plate mechanical model (TPMM) of the main roof was developed and applied to the case study of 21102 first-mined coalface (FMC) of the Hulusu Coal Mine (HCM) in the Hujirt Mining Area (HMA), China. A theoretical analysis performed via the developed model revealed that the first and periodic breaking intervals of the main roof were 40.6 and 25.0 m, respectively. The roof failure occurred in the tensile mode, was controlled by the internal stress σ x in the rock strata, and started from the center of the long side with the fixed support in the goaf. The field measurement of roof weighting was also performed for the coalface advance from zero to 400 m. The measurement results showed that the first weighting average interval was 41.4 m, and the average interval of periodic weighting was 22.0 m, which agreed with the theoretical calculation and proved the proposed model’s feasibility. Finally, the frequency distribution features of the hydraulic support working resistance in the FMC were analyzed statistically. The results showed that the ZY10000-16/32D supports could adapt to the mining geological conditions of the FMC. However, the margin of the rated working resistance of supports was still small. Thus, roof management enhancement during the mining process was strongly recommended. These research findings could offer theoretical guidance for safe and high-efficiency production in the coal mines under similar geological conditions.

    Abstract: Based on the radionuclide distributions in sedimentary coal-bearing strata, this study analyzed the microrelease mechanisms of radon in coal-bearing strata. It was found that the microrelease process includes three stages: emanation, migration, and exhalation. Based on this, an experimental apparatus was independently designed for monitoring radon during compression of coal/rock samples from coal-bearing strata, whose major components include an electrohydraulic servocontrolled rock mechanics testing system, an airtight container, coal/rock samples, radon output device, and a continuous emanometer. The developed apparatus was preliminarily utilized for uniaxial compression tests on mudstone samples taken from the #21105 coalface of the Fourth Coal Mine in Yili Coalfield, China. The test results show that before sample failure under the uniaxial compressive load (UCL), the radon concentration is negatively correlated with the applied UCL and the magnitude of imposed elastic deformation. Increasing the applied load shortens the period of stable deformation, gradually decreasing the porosity of the rock, and as a result of declining the concentration of radon emanation from the rock. Finally, suggestions for future research are proposed, including mathematical equations to express the correlations between different experimental parameters and fractal characteristics of radon release from porous media.

    Abstract: Relevance deprivation syndrome refers to feelings of incompetence among retired people caused by them leaving their high status or influential jobs. The question then arises: do people in positions of power, like Danwei leaders in China, have a lower life satisfaction post-retirement compared to other groups? This study investigated the influence of serving as a Danwei leader before retirement on retirees’ life satisfaction, as well as differences in this influence and the channels through which they are affected. Based on the data of 5,873 respondents of the 2018 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey, ordinary least-squares, ordered logistic regression, and propensity score matching models were used to investigate the influence, differences, and influential mechanisms of serving as a Danwei leader before retirement on retirees’ life satisfaction. We found that Danwei leaders experience a significantly positive impact on their life satisfaction post-retirement. Second, the positive impact of having served in this role on peoples’ post-retirement life satisfaction is related to the resulting higher income, social status, and better living habits. In contrast to the perspective of relevance deprivation syndrome, in China, having been a Danwei leader before retirement has a significantly positive impact on peoples’ life satisfaction post-retirement, with there being a significant difference observed among different types of retired Danwei leaders.

    Abstract: Fluzoparib (PARP inhibitor) showed promising antitumor activity for advanced ovarian cancer in a phase I study. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of fluzoparib in patients with germline BRCA1/2-mutated recurrent ovarian cancer. Patients and Methods: This open-label, multicenter, single-arm, phase II study enrolled patients with platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer and germline BRCA1/2 mutation who had previously received two to four lines of platinum-based chemotherapy. Fluzoparib 150 mg was administered orally twice daily. The primary endpoint was independent review committee (IRC)-assessed objective response rate per RECIST v1.1. Results: A total of 113 patients were enrolled and received at least one dose of fluzoparib. As of data cutoff on March 21, 2020, the median follow-up period was 15.9 months (interquartile range, 13.5–18.5). The IRC- and investigator-assessed objective response rates were 69.9% [95% confidence interval (CI), 60.6–78.2] and 70.8% (95% CI, 61.5–79.0), respectively. The objective response rates were similar across all prespecified subgroups. The median IRC- and investigator-assessed progression-free survival was 12.0 months (95% CI, 9.3–13.9) and 10.3 months (95% CI, 9.2–12.0), respectively. The 12-month survival rate was 93.7% (95% CI, 87.2–96.9). Grade ≥3 adverse events occurred in 63.7% (72/113) of the patients, with the most common one being anemia/decreased hemoglobin. Adverse events that led to treatment interruption, dose reduction, and discontinuation occurred in 39.8%, 34.5%, and 0.9% of patients, respectively. One treatment-related death occurred. Conclusions: Fluzoparib demonstrated promising antitumor activity and acceptable safety profile in germline BRCA1/2-mutated, platinum-sensitive relapsed ovarian cancer. Thus, fluzoparib might be a novel treatment option for this population.

    Abstract: There is a strong link between occupation and self-rated health. Existing research has revealed the effects of occupation on self-rated health outcomes and the corresponding mechanisms. However, there is a lack of research on the effects of state services on self-rated health in China. Therefore, this study focuses on exploring the effects of serving as a state functionary in China on self-rated health to enrich research in related fields. Method Based on the data of 14,138 individuals collected from the 2016 China Labour-Force Dynamics Survey, the logit model was used to investigate the effects of serving as a state functionary on self-rated health and the difference in the effects across different populations. Results The results show that (1) serving as a state functionary has a significant positive effect on self-rated health; (2) self-rated health of elderly state functionaries is higher than that of younger state functionaries; (3) self-rated health of state functionaries in non-eastern regions is higher than that of state functionaries in eastern regions; and (4) state functionaries with lower education have higher self-rated health than highly-educated state functionaries; (5) Higher self-rated health of state functionaries is achieved primarily through better work time, better work environment and lower relative deprivation. Conclusion Serving as a state functionary in China has a significant positive correlation with self-rated health, with differences across populations of state functionaries. This study expands the current literature on the effects of occupation on self-rated health in the context of China.

    Abstract: Worker health is often influenced by their occupation type, and the accumulative effect of occupation has a significant impact on their health after retirement. Studies show that the type and level of occupation before retirement directly impact workers’ self-rated post-retirement health. However, there is little research on the self-rated post-retirement health of danwei leaders in China. This study seeks to examine the self-rated health level of Chinese danwei leaders after retirement. Furthermore, the differences between their self-rated health level and that of retirees from other occupations are explored by examining the accumulative effect of occupation and the mechanism underlying these differences. Methods Based on 5,910 samples’ data from the 2018 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey, ordinary least squares, logit, and propensity score matching models are used to investigate the self-rated health level of Chinese danwei leaders after retirement, their differences with other occupations, and the corresponding mechanism. Results The results show that retired danwei leaders have higher self-rated health levels than retirees in other occupations. This was mainly found among female, non-eastern, married, not living with children, and highly educated respondents. The difference in self-rated health between retired danwei leaders and other retired groups was influenced by their post-retirement income and social status. Conclusions In China, retired danwei leaders rated their health higher than retirees from other occupations. Danwei leaders have high socioeconomic status due to their occupation. Compared with other groups, their advantages are significant and enjoyed for a long time. Additionally, most danwei leaders have high social influence even after retirement and their higher income and social status have a positive impact on their self-rated health compared with other employees. This study provides empirical evidence from China and extends current literature on the effects of occupational type and level on self-rated health after retirement.

    Abstract: The Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 had become predominant globally by November 2021. Aim We evaluated transmission dynamics and epidemiological characteristics of the Delta variant in an outbreak in southern China. Methods Data on confirmed COVID-19 cases and their close contacts were retrospectively collected from the outbreak that occurred in Guangdong, China in May and June 2021. Key epidemiological parameters, temporal trend of viral loads and secondary attack rates were estimated. We also evaluated the association of vaccination with viral load and transmission. Results We identified 167 patients infected with the Delta variant in the Guangdong outbreak. Mean estimates of latent and incubation period were 3.9 days and 5.8 days, respectively. Relatively higher viral load was observed in infections with Delta than in infections with wild-type SARS-CoV-2. Secondary attack rate among close contacts of cases with Delta was 1.4%, and 73.1% (95% credible interval (CrI): 32.9–91.4) of the transmissions occurred before onset. Index cases without vaccination (adjusted odds ratio (aOR): 2.84; 95% CI: 1.19–8.45) or with an incomplete vaccination series (aOR: 6.02; 95% CI: 2.45–18.16) were more likely to transmit infection to their contacts than those who had received the complete primary vaccination series. Discussion Patients infected with the Delta variant had more rapid symptom onset compared with the wild type. The time-varying serial interval should be accounted for in estimation of reproduction numbers. The higher viral load and higher risk of pre-symptomatic transmission indicated the challenges in control of infections with the Delta variant.

    Abstract: In recent years, with the increase of depth and intensity of coal mining, geological disasters in deep engineering occur frequently. It is essential to study the law of subsidence of overburden after mining for analyzing the mechanism and control of geological disasters in deep engineering. However, the value of the subsurface subsidence factor and other overburden subsidence parameters could not be obtained easily. In this paper, the strata bulking of the caving zone, the bed separation of the fractured zone, and the dilatation of bending zone were considered a kind of expansion in the vertical direction uniformly. An assumption on vertical expansion value distribution of overburden strata above the longwall gob was proposed. Based on the assumption, a formula of the subsurface subsidence factor was deduced according to such parameters as the bulking factor, mining depth, mining height, and surface subsidence factor. Moreover, many field data were used to verify the correctness of the assumption by the data fitting method. The results show that the exponential function could well describe the expansion distribution characteristic of overburden strata and subsurface subsidence in the vertical direction. The parameter a in the deduced formula influences the shape of the subsurface subsidence curve; it is called the subsurface subsidence influence factor (SSIF). The SSIF, maximal vertical expansion value, and the mining depth-to-mining height ( MD / MH ) ratio influence the subsurface subsidence factor. The expansion distribution (E-D) factor is defined to describe the subsidence characteristic of overburden strata above the longwall gob by the surface subsidence factor and bulking factor of the caving zone. The E-D factor presents the logarithm relation with the MD / MH ratio, and the range of its maximum is 2.84~3.40. The case study demonstrates that the subsurface subsidence factor calculated by the proposed method has higher precision, and the mean errors between the calculated value and the measured value are less than 2%.
