    Analysis of the hospital supply chain in a Cuban territory

    Abstract: This research aims to develop and apply a methodology for the supply chain analyze in the hospital sector in Matanzas territory. The study is based on the maternity hospital of the territory, with the purpose of identifying the logistics performance and determining if there is a good relationship between the supply chain actors. To carry out the proposed objectives, a methodology is applied to characterize, diagnose and propose improvement projects for the hospital supply chain and its actors. The methodology adapted from a previous one and combined with different tools: checklist, flow chart; performance of group work techniques such as brainstorming and individual interviews. The results shows the lack of logistic integration between the actors, as the fundamental problem on the hospitals supply chains. This document illustrates how logistical problems affect the development of health care activities in terms of satisfying the client at the lowest possible cost. In addition, this constitutes one of the few investigations carried out in the country’s hospitals in with the supply chain focus.

    Abstract: Objective: To develop an improvement strategy on research, innovation and quality of health, based on technology watch adoption.Method: A non experimental study that comprehends descriptive and bibliometric analysis was used, along with the implementation of technology watch procedure to support the strategy.Originality/Relevance: Technology watch along with strategic intelligence are acknowledged to be key tools in innovation processes as well as in strengthening National Science Technology and Innovation Systems (Guagliano, Villanueva, Perez and Sánchez Rico, 2019); its use has spread to numerous public and private companies, government agencies, consulting institutions, universities and research centers which are being interested in anticipating the continous and emerging challenges from the changing environment and hence making proper strategic decisions (Guagliano, Massaro and Rodríguez Bianchi, 2015); particularly in health care its applications are extended to technology assessment, care services improvement and academic research capacity planning and strengthening (Carrillo Zambrano, Páez Leal, Suárez and Luna-González, 2018). Specifically, Research, Quality and Innovation management at a local health system in Cuba, needs to generate high value-added information and knowledge to enhance performance and accurate decision making.Results: Here we show how the development of technology watch enhance and support the formulation of research, development and innovation projects; and standardization of healthcare services and processes, which were selected as relevant variables in a previous prospective study.Social / management contributions: The results are aligned with the Cuban healthcare strategic goals, for among its current demands, it prioritizes the generation of high-impact scientific and innovative results, as well as the development of a quality strategy that portrays, among its core objectives, health services continuous improvement, based on developing standards, Clinical Practice Guidelines and therapeutic protocols.Theoretical/Methodological contributions: The adoption of Technology and Innovation management and knowledge-based techniques may offer valuable benefits within research and quality of healthcare context.

    Abstract: El objetivo de este artículo es valorar la relevancia de la gestión de riesgos en cadenas de suministro. En este sentido, se seleccionó un grupo de herramientas para análisis y evaluación del riesgo, y se las aplicó en un proceso de partes interesadas de una cadena inmobiliaria cubana, mediante el método de caso de BestLog. El estudio se clasifica como cualitativo, descriptivo y exploratorio. Se realizó un estudio de siete herramientas para el análisis de los riesgos, además de la revisión de la literatura sobre el tema. Los resultados fundamentales son la aplicación práctica de un grupo de las herramientas previamente estudiadas y los análisis derivados que confirmaron la utilidad del enfoque de riesgos en la gestión de las cadenas de suministro. El valor teórico de este trabajo es la sistematización de las herramientas de riesgo, y el valor práctico reside en la determinación de acciones para la mitigación de los riesgos en un caso de estudio cubano, así como en las lecciones aprendidas tras la aplicación inicial de la herramienta seleccionada.

    Abstract: Resumo: A gestão de fornecedores é uma prática internacional que privilegia a inter-relação entre fornecedor e cliente; Portanto, a necessidade de colaboração surge devido à extensão das fronteiras de negócios. Neste sentido, este artigo visa aplicar um procedimento que facilite a gestão de fornecedores de forma colaborativa dentro de uma cadeia comercial cubana. Isso começa com o estudo da cadeia comercial e seus fornecedores, respectivamente. Em seguida, o diagnóstico do negócio continua com a avaliação dos fornecedores com base em uma matriz de critérios e conclui com uma proposta colaborativa. É desenhado um procedimento colaborativo de fornecedores ajustado às condições do mercado cubano. Esta pesquisa apresenta um valor prático-metodológico pela práxis da gestão colaborativa de fornecedores dentro de uma cadeia comercial cubana.

    Abstract: ABSTRACT: Presently, achieving the circularity of supply chains is a major challenge. The difficulty consists of the assimilation by the actors in the supply chain and its own complexity. Therefore, this research focuses on the main differences among the three main variables (integration, circular economy, and the elements of the traditional supply chains) of a supply chain in the coconut sector in the province of Manabí, Ecuador. To achieve this, two hypotheses and their possible combinations are defined. The first hypothesis focuses into the existence of the differences among variables. The second one, is based on the possibility of a positive strong correlation among the variables. Hence, relationships between the three variables in the context of circularity are identified. The supply chain under study is formed by 160 actors, limited to the national sector. For the diagnosis of each of the variables, three check lists are used, which allow to compute a general value for each variable in each actor and in the supply chain. Results indicate that: (a) the supply chain of the coconut sector in the province of Manabí has a performance evaluated to be fair in terms of integration levels, circular economy and the definition of the supply chain; (b) actors dedicated to production and manufacturing show slightly superior performance compared to those dedicated to selling to the customer; (c) the actors maintain proportional and direct performances in the three variables. As a consequence of this study, strengths and opportunity areas of the coconut sector to accomplish an effective transition towards the circularity.     Abstract: El presente estudio se basa en el análisis de una empacadora de camarón, con el objeto de evaluar el paradigma de la economía circular. Para esto, se realizó un enfoque de información con el objetivo de plantear mejoras para el reciclaje y reutilización de los residuos con la aplicación de métodos basados en la economía circular dentro de la empresa. El tipo de investigación que se utilizó es la descriptiva y de campo porque se caracterizó parte de la producción de camarón y las variables de economía circular. Se dispuso de una lista de chequeo para su evaluación. En los resultados obtenidos, se determinó que la producción de la empacadora de camarón está trabajando en una economía lineal, y que la empresa tiene una economía circular en un nivel medio de aplicación. Esto permitiría mejoras en la sostenibilidad incrementando más la economía circular.

    Abstract: The objective of this research is to evaluate the integration of a chain of transport services by links in Manabí, Ecuador for the identification of joint strategies and objectives. The research is classified as descriptive and with a quantitative approach. Theoretical methods are used such as: inductive-deductive, analysis-synthesis, historical-logical and modeling to carry out the investigation. The transport service chain is described. A checklist and an integration matrix are systematized to identify the level of integration, strategies and joint objectives. As a result, it was obtained that the study chain presents a high level of integration, and that the strategies focus on long-term contracts and few suppliers, a practical contribution.

    Abstract:   El estudio de las cadenas agroalimentarias es una práctica internacional que contribuye a la mejora de la seguridad alimentaria de forma holística. En específico, el plátano es uno de los productos agrícolas más importante después del arroz, trigo y maíz en la provincia de Manabí, Ecuador. Por ello, el objetivo de este artículo es analizar la cadena agroalimentaria del plátano en Manabí, con un enfoque de economía circular. Para ello, se mapeo la cadena de estudio donde se describe cada eslabón de esta y los productos fundamentales que consumen los clientes. Se diagnosticó la economía circular a partir de una lista de chequeo y se identificó los posibles productos a partir de los residuos de la planta y el fruto. Este trabajo presenta un valor práctico debido a que contribuye a la toma de decisiones en el sector agrícola para una mejora en la sostenibilidad.   Palabras clave: Producto agrícola, cadena agroalimentaria, actores, eslabones.

    Application of neural networks in predicting the level of integration in supply chains

    Abstract: Purpose: This investigation is based on the theoretical analysis of the application of neural networks to the design and manage supply chains, along with an empirical approach, this investigation its developed with the prediction of the level of integration in the supply chain through neural networks.Design/methodology/approach: The methodology designed and used for the processing of data was the instruction of a neural network wich is used to predict the level of integration in a supply chain. This type of predictive application appears in the literature reviewed on supply chains. This analysis was carried out in a comparative way with the heterogeneous and homogeneous weights of the neuron training.Findings: The main results of this research focus on predicting the level of integration in the supply chain from the neoronal network. This provides a coached neuron that can be applied in other studies and, therefore, predict the outcome. On the other hand, it is shown that if the weights of the integration level variables are not homogeneous, the procedure presents different results depending on the context in which it is developed.Research limitations/implications: Among the limitations of the implementation of neural networks it should be noted, the necessary adaptation to the characteristics of the supply chains and the areas of performance of the business organizations under study, in the framework of activities productive or service itself, in addition to analyzing its corporate purpose in relation to the satisfaction of certain needs of the target markets.Originality/value: The literature shows multiple theoretical sources that refer to studies of neural networks in supply chains, observing the opportunity to apply this technique to predict the level of integration due to its benefits for decision making. The originality of this scientific work lies in the possibility of comparing the historical data of the level of integration and those predicted as a result of the coaching of the neuron with the weights of the heterogeneous and homogeneous variables.

    Abstract: Las estrategias medioambientales en el turismo tienen como objetivo reducir el impacto negativo de este sector, a la vez que buscan alcanzar efectos positivos sobre su competitividad y rentabilidad. Sin embargo, aún existe un vacío de investigación en la literatura académica sobre la conexión entre las ecocertificaciones y los precios que los clientes pueden pagar por ese tipo de servicio. El artículo analiza la disposición a pagar de los huéspedes por habitaciones en hoteles amigables con el medio ambiente en México. Se centra en tres de los estados con mayor número de establecimientos hoteleros del país y con más ocupación turística: Quintana Roo, Veracruz y Jalisco. Se evalúan las diferencias entre la disponibilidad a pagar de los huéspedes por hoteles con ecocertificación entre estados, teniendo en cuenta la categoría del establecimiento. Se utilizan modelos de precios hedónicos para evaluar el efecto de la ecocertificación, junto a diferentes atributos del hotel. En el precio de una habitación, se recabó información de la base de datos Trivago y se estimaron las ecuaciones teniendo en cuenta técnicas de panel de datos. Los resultados muestran un efecto significativo en la disposición a pagar por hoteles con ecocertificaciones, con diferencias entre estados y categorías. Las limitaciones de esta investigación son el tiempo de recolección de datos y los lugares de aplicación.
