    Abstract: Increased intestinal barrier permeability, leaky gut, has been reported in patients with autism. However, its contribution to the development of autism has not been determined. We selected dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) to disrupt and metformin to repair the intestinal barrier in BTBR T + tf/J autistic mice to test this hypothesis. DSS treatment resulted in a decreased affinity for social proximity; however, autistic behaviors in mice were improved after the administration of metformin. We found an increased affinity for social proximity/social memory and decreased repetitive and anxiety-related behaviors. The concentration of lipopolysaccharides in blood decreased after the administration of metformin. The expression levels of the key molecules in the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)–myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88)–nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway and their downstream inflammatory cytokines in the cerebral cortex were both repressed. Thus, “leaky gut” could be a trigger for the development of autism via activation of the lipopolysaccharide-mediated TLR4–MyD88–NF-κB pathway.

    Abstract: The development of appropriate analytical screening techniques for pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) is the basis for studying the distribution and environmental impact of emerging contaminants (ECs). Mass spectrometry‐based screening methods vary with the complexity of the target compounds. It is challenging to balance both positive and negative ion quantification with a low detection limit. To establish a set of experimental methods including extraction, chromatography‐separation and mass spectrometry screening is one of the most important topics in PPCP research. This paper describes a universal and efficient qualification and quantification protocol for the simultaneous detection of 34 PPCPs in different environmental samples in a single analytical data acquisition run. Methods Thirty‐four representative PPCPs, which are widely distributed in the environment with high ecological toxicity and complex chemical structures, were selected as representative target ECs. The extraction of the target PPCPs was achieved using only one solid‐phase extraction cartridge without the need to adjust the pH of samples. The enriched samples were detected by LC–MS/MS in both positive and negative ion modes simultaneously. The protocol was evaluated based on the accuracy, precision, detection limits and matrix effects. Results This method achieved simultaneous detection of PPCPs in both positive and negative ion modes, with a single analytical cycle of 12 min. The observed SPE recoveries were between 40% and 115%. The instrumental detection limits (IDL) varied from 0.01 to 1 pg, and the method detection limits (MDL) were between 0.002 and 3.323 ng/l in different matrices. Most of the PPCPs were subjected to matrix suppression below 30%. The method was successfully applied for quantitative analysis of the PPCPs in different environmental samples, including river samples, wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) samples and soil samples. Conclusions This protocol developed a rapid and efficient detection method to simultaneous qualitative and quantitative 34 representative PPCPs in the environment. The IDL ranged from 0.01 to 1 pg and the MDL ranged from 0.002 to 3.323 ng/l in different matrices. The detection limit was one order of magnitude lower compared to previous studies. The protocol also provided a wide application range for different environmental matrices, which permitted the migration and transformation of PPCPs to be explored.

    Abstract: China has made some progress in controlling PM2.5 (particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of ≤2.5 μm) pollution, but there are still some key areas that need further strengthening. Considering that excessive prevention and control efforts affect economic development, this paper combined an empirical orthogonal function, a continuous wavelet transform, and a concentration-weighted trajectory method to study joint regional governance during key pollution periods to provide suggestions for the efficient control of PM2.5. The results from our panel of data of PM2.5 in China from 2016 to 2018 could be decomposed into two modes. In the first mode, the pollution center was in central Shaanxi Province, and the main eruption period was from November to January of the following year. As the center of this region, Xi’an should cooperate with the four cities in eastern Sichuan (Nanchong, Guangan, Bazhong, and Dazhou) to control PM2.5, since the eruption occurred in this area. Moreover, governance should last for at least two cycles, where one cycle is at least 23 days. The pollution center of the second mode was in the western part of Xinjiang. Therefore, after the prevention and control efforts during the first mode are completed, the regional city of Kashgar should continue to build a joint governance zone for PM2.5 along the Tianshan mountains in the east, focusing on prevention and control over two cycles (where one cycle is 28 days).

    Abstract: Based on the basic regression model, this paper analyzes the impact of industrial informatization on China’s economic growth. The research shows that industrial informatization has a significant positive impact on China’s economic growth. Then, considering the significant differences in the development of industrial informatization in different regions of China, the paper further explores the regional heterogeneity of industrial informatization on economic growth. The results show that there are significant differences in the impact of industrial informatization on economic growth in the three major regions of East, Central and West. That is, industrial informatization has the strongest effect on promoting economic growth in the eastern region, followed by the central region, and industrial informatization has the weakest effect on promoting economic growth in the western region.

    Abstract: Objective: During inspiration, mechanical energy generated from respiratory muscle produces a negative pressure gradient to fulfill enough pulmonary ventilation. The pressure loss, a surrogate for energy loss, is considered as the portion of negative pressure without converting into the kinetic energy of airflow. Mouth opening (MO) during sleep is a common symptom in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). This study aimed to evaluate the effects of mouth opening on pharyngeal pressure loss using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. Methods: A total of four subjects who were morphologically distinct in the pharyngeal characteristics based on Friedman tongue position (FTP) grades were selected. Upper airway computed tomography (CT) scan was performed under two conditions: Mouth closing (MC) and mouth opening, in order to reconstruct the upper airway models. computational fluid dynamics was used to simulate the flow on the two different occasions: Mouth closing and mouth opening. Results: The pharyngeal jet was the typical aerodynamic feature and its formation and development were different from mouth closing to mouth opening in subjects with different Friedman tongue position grades. For FTP I with mouth closing, a pharyngeal jet gradually formed with proximity to the velopharyngeal minimum area plane (plane Amin ). Downstream the plane Amin , the jet impingement on the pharyngeal wall resulted in the frictional loss associated with wall shear stress (WSS). A rapid luminal expansion led to flow separation and large recirculation region, corresponding to the interior flow loss. They all contributed to the pharyngeal total pressure loss. While for FTP I with mouth opening, the improved velopharyngeal constriction led to smoother flow and a lower total pressure loss. For FTP IV, the narrower the plane Amin after mouth opening, the stronger the jet formation and its impingement on the pharyngeal wall, predicting a higher frictional loss resulted from higher WSS. Besides, a longer length of the mouth opening-associated constant constrictive segment was another important morphological factor promoting frictional loss. Conclusion: For certain OSAHS patients with higher Friedman tongue position grade, mouth opening-related stronger jet formation, more jet breakdown and stronger jet flow separation might contribute to the increased pharyngeal pressure loss. It might require compensation from more inspiratory negative static pressure that would potentially increase the severity of OSAHS.

    Abstract: In this work, based on the concept of collaborative water–energy development, a multi-scenario system dynamics simulation model of a water–energy coupling system was constructed by using the system dynamics modeling method. The model was composed of four subsystems: society, economic, water resources, and energy. Taking Ningbo City as the research location to run the simulation model, the analysis of the validity of the model showed that the relative error between the historical data and the simulation results of the model was less than 10%, which proved that the model passed the test. In this paper, based on the scenario of business an usual (BAU), three scenarios of water-saving scenario (WSS), energy-saving scenario (ESS), and comprehensive savings (CS, the comprehensive scenario considers water-saving and energy-saving together) were designed, and the simulation indexes in the three scenarios were refined in order to strengthen the control of water-saving policies, improve the effective use of water, optimize the industrial energy structure, improve the level of energy-saving-related technologies, and advance the urbanization process. The simulation results for Ningbo City from 2010 to 2030 show that the water–energy coupling system is affected by many factors, and the adjustment of a driving factor of any subsystem will have an impact on the water–energy coupling system. There are two driving factors: the first is a constant variable related to water resources, energy, society, and economic, and the second is a variable affected by time. The coupling system is based on the law of real development and is composed of causal and functional relationships between variables. Therefore, within the prediction range of 2030, the driving factors in the coupling system are controllable, and there is no uncontrollable situation. The strengthening of water-saving policies and the improvement of the coefficient of the effective utilization of water will have the optimal saving effects on water resources and energy at both the single and the coupling level; this also demonstrates that the water resource management in Ningbo City plays an extremely important role in the relationship of the water–energy coupling. The results of this study are expected to provide a valuable reference for the management and conservation of water–energy coupling in Ningbo City.

    Abstract: Ferrihydrite (Fh) has been demonstrated acting as a hole‐storage layer (HSL) in photoelectrocatalysis system. However, the intrinsic structure responsible for the hole storage function for Fh remains unclear. Herein, by dehydrating the Fh via a careful calcination, the essential relation between the HSL function and the structure evolution of Fh material is unraveled. The irreversible and gradual loss of crystal water molecules in Fh leads to the weakening of the HSL function, accompanied with the arrangement of inner structure units. A structure evolution of the dehydration process is proposed and the primary active structure of Fh for HSL is identified as the [FeO 6 ] polyhedral units bonding with two or three molecules of crystal water. With the successive loss of chemical crystal water, the coordination symmetry of [FeO 6 ] hydration units undergoes mutation and a more ordered structure is formed, causing the difficulty for accepting photogenerated holes as a consequence.

    Abstract: A combination of plasmonic nanoparticles with a semiconductor is a feasible approach to realize multiple color exhibitions. The phenomenon is based on plasmon-driven charge separation between electrons and metal ions, but suitable only for light excitation with different wavelengths. Here, we introduce a color-adjustable method under monochromatic light irradiation. A smart strategy is proposed to construct sandwich structures of a hydrogel coating layer, thermally deposited Ag nanoparticles, and mesoporous T i O 2 matrices. The contacting mode of T i O 2 and nano-Ag at the Schottky interface is strongly dependent on the pore morphology of the oxide. Surface and interface plasmon resonances result in sample color switching from cyan to green and from brown to purple, respectively. The color response ability is further controlled by hydrogel coating, besides the exciting light wavelength. This Letter paves a bright way for colorful displays and information encryption.
