    Abstract: Patients can be at risk of carotid artery dissection and ischemic stroke after cervical chiropractic manipulation. However, such risks are rarely reported and raising awareness can increase the safety of chiropractic manipulations. Case Report We present two middle-aged patients with carotid artery dissection leading to ischemic stroke after receiving chiropractic manipulation in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China. Both patients had new-onset pain in their necks after receiving chiropractic manipulations. Excess physical force during chiropractic manipulation may present a risk to patients. Patient was administered with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator after radiological diagnoses. They were prescribed 100 mg and clopidogrel 75 mg daily for 3 months as dual antiplatelet therapy. There were no complications over the follow-up period. Conclusion These cases suggest that dissection of the carotid artery can occur as the result of chiropractic manipulations. Patients should be diagnosed and treated early to achieve positive outcomes. The safety of chiropractic manipulations should be increased by raising awareness about the potential risks.

    Abstract: Health condition monitoring through comprehensive monitoring, incipient fault diagnosis, and the prediction of impending faults allows for the promotion of the long-term performance of wind turbines, particularly those in harsh environments such as cold regions. The condition monitoring of wind turbines is characterized by the difficulties associated with the lack of measured data and the nonstationary, stochastic, and complicated nature of vibration responses. This article presents a characterization of the vibrations of an operational wind turbine by spectrogram, scalogram, and bi-spectrum analyses. The results reveal varied nonstationary stochastic properties and mode-coupling instability in the vibrations of the tested wind turbine tower. The analysis illustrates that the wind turbine system vibrations exhibit certain non-Gaussian stochastic properties. An analytical model is used to evaluate the nonstationary, stochastic phenomena and mode-coupling phenomena observed in the experimental results. These results are of significance for the fault diagnosis of wind turbine system in operation as well as for improving fatigue designs beyond the wind turbulence spectral models recommended in the standards.

    Abstract: Little is known about the impact of haemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). We compared HRQoL between conventional in-centre HD and home-based PD in 1082 newly diagnosed kidney failure patients. Methods: This was an open-label, randomised, non-inferiority trial of adult patients with a diagnosis of end-stage kidney disease (estimated glomerular filtration rate ≤ 15 mL/min/1.73 m 2 ) requiring maintenance dialysis from 36 sites in China randomised 1:1 to receive PD or conventional in-centre HD. The primary outcome was the ‘Burden of Kidney Disease’ assessed using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life-Short Form (KDQoL-SF) survey over 48 weeks and the main secondary outcomes were the remaining scales of KDQoL-SF and all-cause mortality. The effect of PD versus HD on the primary outcome was compared by their geometric mean (GM) ratio, and non-inferiority was defined by the lower bound of a one-sided 95% confidence interval (CI) 〉 0.9. Results: A total of 725 subjects completed the trial per protocol (395 PD and 330 HD, mean age 49.8 (standard deviation (SD) 14.4) years, 41.4% women). For the primary outcome, the mean (SD) change in ‘Burden of Kidney Disease’ over 48 weeks was 2.61 (1.27) in PD group and 2.58 (1.35) in HD group, and the GM ratio (95% CI) was 1.059 (0.908–1.234), exceeding the limit for non-inferiority. For the secondary outcomes, the PD and HD groups were similar in all scales. There were 17 and 31 deaths in PD and HD groups, respectively. Patients receiving PD had more adverse events, adverse event leading to hospitalisation and serious adverse events compared to those allocated to HD, but adverse events leading to death and discontinuation of the trial were not different between PD and HD. Conclusions: In this trial, PD may be non-inferior to HD on the ‘Burden of Kidney Disease’ among Chinese kidney failure patients who are of younger age and have lower comorbidity after 48 weeks’ follow-up.

    Abstract: Previous criteria had limited value in early diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Here, we constructed a novel machine learning (ML)-derived, “in-time” diagnostic system for PJI and proved its validity. Methods We filtered “in-time” diagnostic indicators reported in the literature based on our continuous retrospective cohort of PJI and aseptic prosthetic loosening patients. With the indicators, we developed a two-level ML model with six base learners including Elastic Net, Linear Support Vector Machine, Kernel Support Vector Machine, Extra Trees, Light Gradient Boosting Machine and Multilayer Perceptron), and one meta-learner, Ensemble Learning of Weighted Voting. The prediction performance of this model was compared with those of previous diagnostic criteria (International Consensus Meeting in 2018 (ICM 2018), etc.). Another prospective cohort was used for internal validation. Based on our ML model, a user-friendly web tool was developed for swift PJI diagnosis in clinical practice. Results A total of 254 patients (199 for development and 55 for validation cohort) were included in this study with 38.2% of them diagnosed as PJI. We included 21 widely accessible features including imaging indicators (X-ray and CT) in the model. The sensitivity and accuracy of our ML model were significantly higher than ICM 2018 in development cohort (90.6% vs. 76.1%, P = 0.032; 94.5% vs. 86.7%, P = 0.020), which was supported by internal validation cohort (84.2% vs. 78.6%; 94.6% vs. 81.8%). Conclusions Our novel ML-derived PJI “in-time” diagnostic system demonstrated significantly improved diagnostic potency for surgical decision-making compared with the commonly used criteria. Moreover, our web-based tool greatly assisted surgeons in distinguishing PJI patients comprehensively. Level of evidence Diagnostic Level III.

    Abstract: There are few studies on the psychological status of medical staff during the COVID-19 outbreak. Our study addresses whether lack of communication affects the psychological status of medical team members supporting Wuhan during the COVID-19 pandemic in China. We used general symptom index (GSI) scores of the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) to evaluate participants’ psychological status. We adopted a stratified sampling method and selected the fourth team, with a total of 137 members, as participants. In total 76.6% and 69.7% of female and male participants, respectively, had bachelor’s degrees; 41.6% and 21.2% of female and male participants, respectively, were unmarried. Regarding communication, 14.29% and 6.06% of female and male participants, respectively, reported a lack of communication with the team (LCWT). Additionally, 13.0% and 6.1% of female and male participants, respectively, experienced fear of being infected (FoBI). LCWT and FoBI were positively correlated with GSI score (estimated change = 0.2, 95% CI [0.1-0.3]). When adjusted for gender, age, and FoBI, LCWT was positively correlated with GSI score ( P  〈  .05). Increasing communication among medical team members can reduce GSI scores.

    Abstract: Plain Language Summary This paper uses the consumer choice model and the decision model to analyze the two approaches for closing the loop, leasing and recycling. In contrast to previous studies of closed-loop supply chains, this paper considers leasing as another way of closing the loop and takes into account its cannibalization effect on the market for new products and its priming effect on consumers with lower willingness to pay. The paper concludes that the leasing strategy cannot completely cannibalize the selling market and is conditional on implementation, while the recycling strategy can completely cannibalize the leasing market and is always effective. This paper has some applications for closed-loop decision making for manufacturers to improve economic and environmental gains. Manufacturers and policy makers should advocate new forms of consumption that encourage consumers to care more about product function than property rights, thus leaving more room for the rental market to acquire greater benefits. This paper does not consider the supply of P2P platforms when portraying the leasing program and does not use empirical studies to verify the conclusions.

    Abstract: Sulfur-vulcanized nature rubber (NR) usually accompanies with reversion, which is of great challenge to the application of the NR products. In this work, zinc glycerolate in combination with zinc laurate was incorporated into sulfur-vulcanized NR, for the purpose of effectively substituting the traditional activator zinc oxide. Curing characteristics, physical and mechanical properties and dynamic viscoelastic behavior of the sulfur-vulcanized NR were investigated. Compared with solo addition of zinc glycerolate, zinc glycerolate/zinc laurate significantly improved the anti-reversion property of the sulfur-vulcanized NR. Incorporation of zinc laurate also enhanced the processing fluidity, filler dispersion, and rolling resistance of the sulfur-vulcanized NR. Moreover, the mole fraction of zinc was reduced by 51% with using zinc glycerolate/zinc laurate, compared with the traditional vulcanizates activated by zinc oxide. Our work provides a green approach to fabricate sulfur-vulcanized NR with outstanding anti-reversion performance.

    Abstract: Representative pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli ( E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus) are widespread in nature and pose a threat to human health. To control the propagation of these pathogens from the source, the key is to design broad-spectrum antibacterial materials to reduce the serious damage of pathogenic bacteria. At present, more and more nanoparticles are widely researched and applied due to their multi-pathway antibacterial properties, such as regulating physiology, biochemistry and physical chemistry. In this work, we synthesized a uniformly dispersed and stable spherical nanoparticle (TiO 2 @V 2 O 5 ) synthesized by self-assembly of tianium dioxide and vanadium pentoxide. Based on its excellent photosensitive properties, TiO 2 @V 2 O 5 nanoparticles have showed excellent antibacterial properties under the light irradiation due to the production of hydroxyl radicals in antibacterial and mechanism tests. In addtion, related cell and plant experiments have showed that TiO 2 @V 2 O 5 nanoparticles are excellent biocompatible materials, it could be widely used in environmental pollution control, limiting the serious damage caused by pathogens.

    Abstract: In this paper, a 3D wake model considering both axial and radial wind speed variations along the incoming wind direction, and the non-flat topography effect on the wind flow, is developed for the layout optimization of a real onshore wind farm. The effectiveness of two methods (i.e., the discretization method that divides the wind scenario into small intervals and the Monte Carlo method which randomly generates the discrete wind speed samples), for evaluating the overall wind farm power production under the wind speed variation of Weibull distribution is investigated for the comparative study. It is found that the Monte Carlo power evaluation method achieves a better outcome than the traditional discretization method, with more total power output and less computational cost. Through the layout optimization with a total of 15 wind turbines installed, the individual wind turbine yields more than 533 kW power out of 536 kW theoretical wake-free power. As the installed wind turbine number increases, the maximum discrepancy of the actual wind turbine power output with respect to the theoretical power increases from 3 kW (with 15 wind turbines) to 6 kW (with 20 wind turbines). Through the comparative study of different wind rotation scenarios, it is found that the maximum discrepancy of individual actual wind turbine power outputs is 8 kW and 13 kW for a rotational angle of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] , respectively. Under the scenario of [Formula: see text] wind rotation scenario, the maximum individual power output deficit with 20 installed wind turbines is around 20 kW and the discrepancy of the total power output by comparing to the baseline wind model is maximally 1% proving the robustness of the optimization results with respect to the wind scenario variation.

    Abstract: This meta-analysis aimed to identify the prognostic role of Ki-67 in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods: Relevant studies were retrieved in the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases up to November 2019. The pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to estimate the association between Ki-67 expression and survival outcomes. Combined odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs were measured as effect size on the association between Ki-67 expression and clinical factors. Results: A total of eight studies involving 936 patients with NPC were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled HR indicated that Ki-67 expression was significantly associated with poor overall survival (HR = 2.86, 95% CI = 1.91–4.27, p  〈  0.001), progression-free survival (HR = 1.78, 95% CI = 1.15–2.74, p = 0.009), and distant metastasis-free survival (HR = 1.65, 95% CI = 1.15–2.36, p = 0.007). However, there was no significant correlation between Ki-67 expression and local recurrence-free survival (HR = 1.07, 95% CI = 0.54–2.14, p = 0.843). Ki-67 overexpression was associated with higher T stage (OR = 1.48, 95% CI = 1.00–2.20, p = 0.052), and the relationship between Ki-67 expression and advanced stage was nearly significant (OR = 2.25, 95% CI = 0.99–5.14, p = 0.054). However, high Ki-67 expression was not significantly correlated with sex, age, N stage, or histological type. Conclusion: This meta-analysis demonstrated that Ki-67 overexpression was a significant marker for poor prognosis in patients with NPC. Ki-67 should be recommended as a useful index for prognostication in patients with NPC.
