    Abstract: Satellite-derived bathymetry (SDB) techniques are increasingly valuable for deriving high-quality bathymetric maps of coral reefs. Investigating the performance of the related SDB algorithms in purely spaceborne active–passive fusion bathymetry contributes to formulating reliable bathymetric strategies, particularly for areas such as the Spratly Islands, where in situ observations are exceptionally scarce. In this study, we took Anda Reef as a case study and evaluated the performance of eight common SDB approaches by integrating Sentinel-2 images with Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2). The bathymetric maps were generated using two classical and six machine-learning algorithms, which were then validated with measured sonar data. The results illustrated that all models accurately estimated the depth of coral reefs in the 0–20 m range. The classical algorithms (Lyzenga and Stumpf) exhibited a mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of less than 0.990 m, 1.386 m, and 11.173%, respectively. The machine learning algorithms generally outperformed the classical algorithms in accuracy and bathymetric detail, with a coefficient of determination (R2) ranging from 0.94 to 0.96 and an RMSE ranging from 1.034 m to 1.202 m. The multilayer perceptron (MLP) achieved the highest accuracy and consistency with an RMSE of as low as 1.034 m, followed by the k-nearest neighbor (KNN) (1.070 m). Our results provide a practical reference for selecting SDB algorithms to accurately obtain shallow water bathymetry in subsequent studies.

    Abstract: While deep learning has found widespread utility in gearbox fault diagnosis, its direct application to wind turbine gearboxes encounters significant hurdles. Disparities in data distribution across a spectrum of operating conditions for wind turbines result in a marked decrease in diagnostic accuracy. In response, this study introduces a tailored dynamic conditional adversarial domain adaptation model for fault diagnosis in wind turbine gearboxes amidst cross-condition scenarios. The model adeptly adjusts the importance of aligning marginal and conditional distributions using distance metric factors. Information entropy parameters are also incorporated to assess individual sample transferability, prioritizing highly transferable samples during domain alignment. The amalgamation of these dynamic factors empowers the approach to maintain stability across varied data distributions. Comprehensive experiments on both gear and bearing data validate the method’s efficacy in cross-condition fault diagnosis. Comparative outcomes demonstrate that, when contrasted with four advanced transfer learning techniques, the dynamic conditional adversarial domain adaptation model attains superior accuracy and stability in multi-transfer tasks, making it notably suitable for diagnosing wind turbine gearbox faults.

    Abstract: The bus stop layout and route deployment may influence the efficiency of bus services. Evaluating the supply of bus service requires the consideration of demand from various urban activities, such as residential and job-related activities. Although various evaluation methods have been explored from different perspectives, it remains a challenging issue. This study proposes a spatial statistical approach by comparing the density of the potential demand and supply of bus services at bus stops. The potential demand takes jobs-housing locations into account, and the supply of bus services considers bus stops and their associated total number of daily bus arrivals. The kernel density estimation (KDE) and spatial autocorrelation analyses are employed to investigate the coupling relationship between the demand and supply densities at global and local scales. A coupling degree index (CDI) is constructed to standardize the measurement of demand-supply balance. A case study in Wuhan, China demonstrated that: (1) the spatial distribution of bus stops is reasonable at global level, (2) Seriously unbalanced locations for bus services have been detected at several stops. Related adjustments that can improve these defects are highly recommended.

    Abstract: This study evaluated the effects of dietary gallic acid (GA) on growth performance, diarrhea incidence and plasma antioxidant status of weaned piglets regardless of whether weaning weight was high or low. A total of 120 weaned piglets were randomly allocated to four treatments in a 42-day experiment with a 2 × 2 factorial treatment arrangement comparing different weaning weights (high weight (HW) or low weight (LW), 8.49 ± 0.18 kg vs. 5.45 ± 0.13 kg) and dietary treatment (without supplementation (CT) or with supplementation of 400 mg/kg of GA). The results showed that HW piglets exhibited better growth performance and plasma antioxidant capacity. Piglets supplemented with GA had higher body weight (BW) on day 42 and average daily gain (ADG) from day 0 to 42 compared to the control piglets, which is mainly attributed to the specific improvement on BW and ADG of LW piglets by the supplementation of GA. The decreased values of diarrhea incidence were seen in piglets fed GA, more particularly in LW piglets. In addition, dietary GA numerically reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) content in plasma of LW piglets. In conclusion, our study suggests that dietary GA may especially improve the growth and health in LW weaned piglets.

    Abstract: Goose meat is consumed by consumers because it contains a relatively high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). This study was conducted to explore the main differences in production performance, breast meat quality traits, and cecal microbiota compositions between the Zi goose (ZG) and Xianghai flying goose (FG). The production performance and breast meat quality trait analyses showed that compared with the ZG, the FG had a higher right breast muscle index, ileum villi height/crypt depth ratio (VH/CD), and cecum fermentation rate (higher short-chain fatty acid (SFCA) concentration); a lower abdominal fat index; a higher proportion of PUFAs; and a lower shear force. Spearman’s correlation coefficients between the cecal microbiota composition and production performance indexes suggested that the genus Faecalibacterium was positively associated with production performance; in contrast, the genus Candidatus Saccharimonas was negatively correlated with production performance; moreover, the Ruminococcus torques group, Parasutterella, and Methanobrevibacter were negatively related to the VH/CD. Taken together, in this particular trial, FG had better production performance, healthier meat quality traits, and better intestinal digestion and absorption capacities than ZG. These results not only provide a useful data reference for the production of healthy geese for human consumption but can also help guide the utilization of goose breed resources.

    Abstract: During the different periods of a day, the imbalanced distribution of inbound ridership, that is related to land use, results in extreme flow, which makes metro management challenging. The causes of imbalanced passenger flow from the perspective of land use in metro station areas are studied in this paper. More specifically, based on site classification, the impact of land use, including the floor area ratio and gross floor area on passenger flow, was explored by using a multiple linear regression model. The results first indicate that the impact intensities of the floor area ratio on peak hourly flow were 0.41, 0.21, and 0.20 around business, residential, and mixed sites, respectively. Second, for the abovementioned sites, the types with the greatest impact intensities of gross floor area on peak hourly flow were commercial and business facilities (B), residential (R), as well as administration and public services (A), which were 0.73, 0.32, and 0.87, respectively. Finally, for the land-development-control schemes for business, residential, and mixed sites, the maximum values of the floor area ratio were roughly 7.2, 5.3, and 8.2, respectively. The results presented in this study provide guidance for land development in metro station areas and contribute to avoiding the emergence of extreme passenger flow.

    Abstract: In the current recycling process of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), due to the serious damage of aggregate gradation and the large amount of aged asphalt still wrapped around the surface of the treated aggregate, the low recycling rate and poor performance of the recycled asphalt mixture are the major problems of RAP. In view of the shortcomings of RAP recycling technology, it is urgent to research new treatment methods and design specialized asphalt-stripping equipment to solve the existing problems. In this paper, based on theoretical analysis and EDEM discrete element simulation, a principle prototype for efficient micro-damage fine stripping of asphalt on the RAP surface is developed and tested. The results demonstrate that the principle prototype has a satisfactory asphalt-stripping effect and achieves fine stripping of aged asphalt on the surface of aggregate without large-scale crushing. This principle prototype has significant engineering application values, which provides design solutions and data support for further equipment development.

    Abstract: The main objective of this study was to determine the effect of aggregate gradation (AG) on the volumetric parameters (VPs) and rutting performance (RP) of asphalt concrete (AC) mixtures. The boundary sieve (BS) between fine and coarse aggregates was 2.36 mm size, and 15 gradation curves of three nominal maximum aggregate sizes (13.2, 19.0, and 26.5 mm) were designed based on the percentage passing of the BS. A vibrating compaction test of coarse aggregates, Marshall compaction and wheel-tracking tests of AC mixtures with various gradations were conducted. It was found that AG had crucial effects on the VPs and RP of AC mixtures. The AC mixture can be designed as a skeletal dense structure provided that the percentage passing of the BS is appropriate. More notably, AC mixtures with a skeletal dense structure showed the best rutting resistance performance. Therefore, it is important to optimize AG for enhancing the high-temperature RP of AC mixtures.

    Abstract: Image manipulation localization is one of the most challenging tasks because it pays more attention to tampering artifacts than to image content, which suggests that richer features need to be learned. Unlike many existing solutions, we employ a semantic segmentation network, named Multi-Supervised Encoder–Decoder (MSED), for the detection and localization of forgery images with arbitrary sizes and multiple types of manipulations without extra pre-training. In the basic encoder–decoder framework, the former encodes multi-scale contextual information by atrous convolution at multiple rates, while the latter captures sharper object boundaries by applying upsampling to gradually recover the spatial information. The additional multi-supervised module is designed to guide the training process by multiply adopting pixel-wise Binary Cross-Entropy (BCE) loss after the encoder and each upsampling. Experiments on four standard image manipulation datasets demonstrate that our MSED network achieves state-of-the-art performance compared to alternative baselines.

    Abstract: The shear mechanical properties of rock under high temperature and high pressure are key issues in geothermal energy development. In order to explore the variation in shear mechanical properties of rock under high temperature and high pressure, the shear experiments of granite under real-time temperatures and normal stresses were carried out using the servo-controlled true triaxial experimental system for rock shearing testing and acoustic emission technology. The results show the following trends: (1) the peak shear strength of granite increases slightly first and then decreases sharply with real-time temperature, with 200 °C considered as the threshold temperature for the peak shear strength of granite. When the temperature is constant, the shear strength of granite increases linearly with the increase in normal stress. (2) Before 200 °C, the shear modulus of granite decreases slowly with the increase in temperature and decreases rapidly after 200 °C. The shear modulus always increases linearly with the increase in normal stress. (3) Under the coupling effect of real-time high temperature and normal stress, the cumulative acoustic emission energy released during the shear deformation of granite gradually decreases with temperature, and the main failure mode of granite gradually changes from tensile failure to shear failure.
