    Abstract: The use of polysaccharides to induce the systemic immune response of plants for disease resistance has become an effective plant protection measure. Sharp eyespot wheat and crown rot wheat are serious diseases of wheat. In this study, the control effects of hexaconazole and lentinan (LNT) seed dressing of the two wheat diseases were evaluated by field experiments, and the effects of the seed dressing on plant growth, soil enzyme activity, and community diversity in the wheat rhizosphere were discussed. The results showed that the combined seed dressing of hexaconazole at 0.5 a.i. g·100 kg −1 and LNT at 4 a.i. g·100 kg −1 could significantly improve the control effect of the two wheat diseases. The combined treatment of hexaconazole and LNT had little effect on wheat soil enzyme activities. Different seed dressing treatments changed the fungal community structure in the wheat rhizosphere soil, and the combination of LNT and hexaconazole reduced the relative abundance of Rhizoctonia , Cladosporium , Fusarium , Bipolaris , and Gibberella in wheat planting soils. These findings suggested that the combined seed dressing of hexaconazole and LNT could effectively control soilborne diseases of wheat, concurrently could change in rhizosphere fungal community, and reduce in potential soilborne pathogens.

    Abstract: Technology transfer is an essential source of technological innovation for enterprises, which is conducive to the market transformation of patent achievements and the commercial application of new technologies. Building upon social capital theory, all data analyses were performed using SPSS 22.0 and Amos software with the multiple linear regression method. The study explores the mechanism of policy perception to obtain the technical resources needed for enterprise development through boundary-spanning behavior, with a moderating effect of inter-organizational trust and technological potential gap. The study uses survey data from 125 enterprise teams of 42 technology-based enterprises in China. The results show that policy perceived usefulness and usability significantly promote technology transfer performance and boundary-spanning behavior plays a mediating role between them. Speaking of the influencing factors of technology transfer, technological potential gap significantly moderates the relationship between boundary-spanning and technology transfer performance. In contrast, inter-organizational trust positively moderates the relationship between boundary-spanning and technology transfer performance. The research provides theoretical reference and guidance for enterprises on using policy perception better to improve technology transfer performance in the institutional environment. It also helps inspire enterprises to better deal with the cooperative relationship between relevant stakeholders and achieve win-win cooperation.

    Abstract: Effects of steam explosion (SE) treatment (0.3–1.0 MPa, 30–90s) on the physicochemical and functional properties of dietary fiber (DF) extracted from tea residue were investigated. Results showed that SE led to the formation of porous and less compact microstructures of tea residues. Compared with the control sample (12.41 g/100 g), the content of soluble dietary fiber (SDF) was markedly increased by SE, reaching the maximum of 23.03 g/100 g when steam explored at 0.5 MPa for 90 s, due to the degradation of insoluble dietary fiber (IDF). The physicochemical and functional properties were significantly influenced by SE treatments. IDF exhibited decreased water holding capacity (WHC), swelling capacity (SC), oil holding capacity (OHC) after SE, whereas the physicochemical properties of SDF from SE-treated tea residues (0.3 MPa, 90s) were greatly improved. The glucose absorption capacity (GAC), cholesterol adsorption capacity (CAC), and nitrite ion adsorption capacity (NIAC) of both IDF and SDF showed trends of first increasing and then decreasing, indicating that excessive SE treatment resulted in poor properties of DF. These findings are of great value for the high-value utilization of agricultural by-product and development of functional foods.

    Abstract: Spodoptera frugiperda is the world’s major agricultural pest and has the distinctive features of high fecundity, strong migratory capacity, and high resistance to most insecticides. At present, the control of S. frugiperda in China relies mainly on the spraying of chemical insecticides. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small, single-stranded, non-coding RNAs and play crucial regulatory roles in various physiological processes, including the insecticide resistance in insects. However, little is known about the regulatory roles of miRNAs on the resistance of S. frugiperda to insecticides. In the present research, the miRNAs that were differentially expressed after cyantraniliprole, spinetoram, and emamectin benzoate treatment were analyzed by RNA-Seq. A total of 504 miRNAs were systematically identified from S. frugiperda , and 24, 22, and 31 miRNAs were differentially expressed after treatments of cyantraniliprole, spinetoram, and emamectin benzoate. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses were used to predict the function of differentially expressed target genes of miRNAs. Importantly, ten miRNAs were significantly differentially expressed among the treatments of three insecticides. miR-278-5p, miR-13b-3p, miR-10485-5p, and miR-10483-5p were significantly downregulated among the treatments of three insecticides by RT-qPCR. Furthermore, the overexpression of miR-278-5p, miR-13b-3p, miR-10485-5p, and miR-10483-5p significantly increased the mortality of S. frugiperda to cyantraniliprole and emamectin benzoate. The mortality was significantly increased with spinetoram treatment after the overexpression of miR-13b-3p, miR-10485-5p, and miR-10483-5p. These results suggest that miRNAs, which are differentially expressed in response to insecticides, may play a key regulatory role in the insecticide tolerance in S. frugiperda .

    Abstract: Biliary atresia (BA) is the most common cholestatic liver disease in neonates. Herein, we aimed at characterizing the gut microbiota and fecal bile acid profiles of BA patients, defining the correlations between them, and evaluating the relationship between the clinical pathogenesis and changes in the gut microbiota and bile acid profiles. Methods A total of 84 fecal samples from BA patients (n = 46) and matched healthy controls (HCs, n = 38) were subjected to sequencing by 16S rRNA gene amplification, and fecal bile acid were analyzed by targeted metabolomics. Findings Compared with the controls, a structural separation of the intestinal flora of BA patients was uncovered, which was accompanied by changes in the composition of fecal bile acids. In the BA group, Actinobacillus , Monoglobus , and Agathobacter were enriched in patients without cholangitis ( p & lt; 0.05). Selenomonadaceae and Megamonas were more abundant in patients without recurrent cholangitis episodes ( p & lt; 0.05), while Lachnospiraceae and Ruminococcaceae were enriched in patients with multiple recurrences of cholangitis ( p & lt; 0.05). Postoperative jaundice clearance was associated with Campylobacter and Rikenellaceae ( p & lt; 0.05), and tauroursodeoxycholic acid was associated with jaundice clearance ( p & lt; 0.001). Conclusion BA patients are characterized by different compositions of gut microbiota and bile acids, and their interaction is involved in the process of liver damage in BA, which may be closely related to the occurrence of postoperative cholangitis and jaundice clearance.

    Abstract: Background: Esophageal diverticulum (ED) is an extremely rare complication of congenital esophageal atresia (EA) with or without tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) surgery. We aimed to investigate feasible methods for the treatment of this rare complication. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients with EA/TEF at Beijing Children's Hospital from January 2015 to September 2019. The clinicopathological features of patients with ED after EA/TEF surgery were recorded. Follow-up was routinely performed after surgery until December 2020. Results: Among 198 patients with EA/TEF, ED only occurred in four patients (2.02%; one male, three female). The four patients had varying complications after the initial operation, including anastomotic leakage (3/4), esophageal stenosis (3/4), and recurrence of TEF (1/4). The main clinical symptoms of ED included recurrent pneumonia (4/4), coughing (4/4), and dysphagia (3/4). All ED cases occurred near the esophageal anastomosis. Patients' age at the time of diverticulum repair was 6.6–16.8 months. All patients underwent thoracoscopic esophageal diverticulectomy (operation time: 1.5–3.5 h). Anastomotic leakage occurred in one patient and spontaneously healed after 2 weeks. The other three patients had no peri-operative complications. All patients were routinely followed up after surgery for 14–36 months. During the follow-up period, all patients could eat orally, had good growth and weight gain, and showed no ED recurrence or anastomotic leakage on esophagogram. Conclusions: ED is a rare complication after EA/TEF surgery and is a clear indication for diverticulectomy. During the midterm follow-up, thoracoscopic esophageal diverticulectomy was safe and effective for ED after EA/TEF surgery.

    Abstract: Sea Island cotton ( Gossypium barbadense ) is world-renowned for its superior natural fiber. Although fiber strength is one of the most important fiber quality traits, genes contributing to fiber strength are poorly understood. Production of sea island cotton also is inextricably linked to improving its relatively low yield, thus enhancing the importance of joint improvement of both fiber quality and yield. We used genomic variation to uncover the genetic evidence of trait improvement resulting from pedigree breeding of Sea Island cotton. This pedigree was aimed at improving fiber strength and yielded an elite cultivar, XH35. Using a combination of genome-wide association study (GWAS) and selection screens, we detected 82 putative fiber-strength-related genes. Expression analysis confirmed a calmodulin-like gene, GbCML7 , which enhanced fiber strength in a specific haplotype. This gene is a major-effect gene, which interacts with a minor-effect gene, GbTUA3 , facilitating the enhancement of fiber strength in a synergistic fashion. Moreover, GbCML7 participates in the cooperative improvement of fiber strength, fiber length, and fiber uniformity, though a slight compromise exists between the first two of these traits and the latter. Importantly, GbCML7 is shown to boost yield in some backgrounds by increasing multiple yield components to varying degrees, especially boll number. Our work provides valuable genomic evidence and a key genetic factor for the joint improvement of fiber quality and yield in Sea Island cotton.

    Abstract: Fusarium crown and root rot of tomato is a soilborne diseases that has brought serious harm and economic losses to tomato production in facilities in recent years. The disease has been reported in more than 30 countries worldwide, but there are few reports on its biological control. A Bacillus velezensis strain SDTB038 with biocontrol effects was isolated and identified in a previous study and is considered one of the most important PGPRs. Seven secondary metabolite biosynthesis gene clusters were found in strain SDTB038 by whole genome sequencing, explaining its biocontrol effects. Results indicated that different concentrations of SDTB038 fermentation broth inhibited the mycelial growth of Fusarium crown and root rot of tomato. Strain SDTB038 could generate indole acetic acid and promote healthy growth of tomatoes, while the effect of 10 8 CFU/ml SDTB038 concentration on promoting tomato growth was the most obvious. B. velezensis SDTB038 significantly reduced the accumulation of ROS in tomato plants, induced the up-regulation of antifreeze genes, and promoted the rapid recovery of tomato plants at low temperatures in a pot experiment. At the same time, SDTB038 had good control effect on Fusarium crown and root rot of tomato, and 10 8 CFU/ml SDTB038 fermentation broth had the best control effect, which was 42.98%. In summary, the strain B. velezensis SDTB038 may be a promising bacterial agent for biological control of Fusarium crown and root rot of tomato, and an important source of potential antimicrobial compounds.

    Abstract: Bioremediation can be effective method for achieving polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) degradation in soil contaminated with petroleum. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of Rhodococcus bioaugmentation (BIOE) and biostimulation (BIOS) on dibenzothiophene biodegradation and bacterial community interaction in petroleum-contaminated soils. The findings revealed that compared to natural degradation treatment (NAT) and BIOS, BIOE had the highest dibenzothiophene (DBT) and the majority of DBT degradation occurred within the first 30 days. BIOS had a positive impact in the early stage but an opposite effect in the later stages for degrading DBT. Beta diversity analysis revealed significant differences of bacterial composition among NAT, BIOS, and BIOE. Sequencing results indicated that Bacillus and Paenibacillus were dominant genera involved in DBT degradation. Network analysis revealed co-occurrence patterns and connectivity, with BIOE exhibiting higher connectivity and the highest number of links in BIOS. In summary, Rhodococcus bioaugmentation was the simplest and effective method to enhance the clustering degree of bacterial network and DBT degradation in petroleum-contaminated soil, compared to NAT and BIOS.

    Abstract: Background: This study aims to identify the risk factors and reasons for treatment abandonment for patients with esophageal atresia (EA) in a tertiary care hospital in China. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 360 patients with EA admitted to Beijing Children's Hospital between January 1, 2007 and June 1, 2020. Medical records for treatment abandonment and non-treatment abandonment patients were compared. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify potential risk factors for treatment abandonment. Results: After the diagnosis of EA, parents of 107 patients refused surgical repair and discharged against medical advice, and 253 patients underwent surgical repair. Among these 253 patients, parents of 59 patients abandoned treatment after surgery; 52 patients were discharged in an unstable condition, and parents of seven patients abandoned resuscitation leading to death in the hospital. By comparing clinical characteristics between treatment abandonment before surgery ( n = 107) and non-treatment abandonment ( n = 253) groups, we found that mother's parity & gt;1, unplanned admission to intensive care unit before surgery, associated anomalies, and Gross type A/B were significant independent risk factors for treatment abandonment before surgery. Furthermore, birth weight & lt;2,545 g, being discharged from neonatal center/intensive care unit and other departments, unplanned admission to intensive care unit after surgery, operative time & gt;133 min, admission before 2016, pneumothorax, and anastomotic leakage were significant independent risk factors for treatment abandonment after surgery. The reasons for treatment abandonment included financial difficulties, multiple malformations with poor prognosis, belief of incurability and concerns about the prognosis of the diseases, postoperative complications, and extensive length of intensive care unit stay. Conclusions: Treatment abandonment of children with EA/TEF is still a common and serious problem in China. This study showed that EA/TEF patients in critical conditions, with associated anomalies, Gross type A/B, and who had occurrence of complications had high-risk for treatment abandonment.
