    Description: This data set is part of a larger data harmonization effort to make lake sediment core data machine readable and comparable. Here we standardized diatom data of sediment core PG1972, retrieved in 2009 from Lake Bezrybnoe (Lena Delta, Russia) at 4.7 m water depth. The thermokarst lake Bezrybnoe is small basin in tundra region and has one outflow and three inflows. It lies at an elevation of ca. 6 m a.s.l. with a surface area of ca. 0.77 km2 and a maximum lake water depth of estimated 5.3 m. The 1.08 m sediment core was retrieved by a UWITEC hammer action gravity corer (60mm) during the RU-Land_2009_Lena-transect expedition of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI, Germany, Potsdam) in cooperation with the North Eastern Federal State University (NEFU, Russia, Yakutsk). Pollen have been identified by Larisa Saveljeva using a light microscope at AWI Potsdam.

Here we standardized diatom count data of sediment core PG2023, retrieved in 2010 from Lake Ozero Kyutyunda (Yakutia, Russia) at 2.9 m water depth. The thermokarst lake Ozero Kyutyunda is isituated in the coniferous forest area and has one outflow, one inflow and several smaller inflows. It lies at an elevation of ca. 56 m a.s.l. with a surface area of ca. 4.9 km2 and a maximum lake water depth of estimated 3.5 m. The 7.1 m sediment core was retrieved by a UWITEC 60mm piston corer during the RU-Land_2010_Lena expedition of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI, Germany, Potsdam) in cooperation with the North Eastern Federal State University (NEFU, Russia, Yakutsk). Diatoms have been counted using a Zeiss AXIO Scope.A1 light microscope with a Plan-Apochromat 100/1.4 Oil Ph3 objective at 1000x magnification.

The 1.2 m sediment core was retrieved by a UWITEC hammer action gravity corer during the RU-Land_2009_Lena-transect expedition of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI, Germany, Potsdam) in cooperation with the North Eastern Federal State University (NEFU, Russia, Yakutsk). The thermokarst lake Elgene-Kyuele is situated in the forest tundra and has several small outflows and one visible inflow. It lies at an elevation of ca. 147 m a.s.l. with a surface area of ca. 1.34 km2 and a maximum lake water depth of estimated 10.5 m. The 1.26 m sediment core was retrieved by a UWITEC hammer action gravity corer during the RU-Land_2009_Lena-transect expedition of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI, Germany, Potsdam) in cooperation with the North Eastern Federal State University (NEFU, Russia, Yakutsk). Grain-size was measured by COULTER LS 200 Laser Diffraction Particle Analyser at AWI Potsdam.

    Description: This data set is part of a larger data harmonization effort to make lake sediment core data machine readable and comparable. Here we standardized organic carbon data of sediment core PG2201, retrieved in 2013 from Lake Malaya Chabyda (Yakutia, Russia), located approximately 15 km southwest of the City of Yakutsk, at 2 m water depth. Lake Ulakhan Chabyda (Event: PG2315) discharges into Lake Malaya Chabyda during times of high water. The thermokarst lake Malaya Chabyda is in an exorheic basin in the coniferous forest area and has one outflow and one inflow. It lies at an elevation of ca. 192 m a.s.l. with a surface area of ca. 0.18 km2 and a maximum lake water depth of estimated 3 m. The sediment core was retrieved by a Russian peat corer during the RU-Land_2013_Yakutia expedition of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI, Germany, Potsdam) in cooperation with the North Eastern Federal State University (NEFU, Russia, Yakutsk). Eight overlapping sediment cores, representing an approximately 6.6 m–long composite sequence were collected on March 24, 2013. Two parallel drilling holes, approximately 1 m apart, were used alternatingly to obtain core sections which overlap by approximately 20 cm. Carbon was analyzed in the laboratories of AWI Potsdam.

    Description: This data set is part of a larger data harmonization effort to make lake sediment core data machine readable and comparable. Here we standardized grain-size data of sediment core PG1972, retrieved in 2009 from Lake Bezrybnoe (Lena Delta, Russia) at 4.7 m water depth. The thermokarst lake Bezrybnoe is small basin in tundra region and has one outflow and three inflows. It lies at an elevation of ca. 6 m a.s.l. with a surface area of ca. 0.77 km2 and a maximum lake water depth of estimated 5.3 m. The 1.08 m sediment core was retrieved by a UWITEC hammer action gravity corer (60mm) during the RU-Land_2009_Lena-transect expedition of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI, Germany, Potsdam) in cooperation with the North Eastern Federal State University (NEFU, Russia, Yakutsk). Grain-size was measured by laser-based particle sizing (COULTER LS 200 Laser Diffraction Particle Analyser) at AWI Potsdam.

Here we standardized radiocarbon age data of sediment core PG1975-1, retrieved in 2009 from Lake Elgene-Kyuele (lower Lena River, Yakutia, Russia) at 4.8 m water depth. The thermokarst lake Elgene-Kyuele is situated in the forest tundra and has several small outflows and one visible inflow. It lies at an elevation of ca. 147 m a.s.l. with a surface area of ca. 1.34 km2 and a maximum lake water depth of estimated 10.5 m. The 1.26 m sediment core was retrieved by a UWITEC hammer action gravity corer during the RU-Land_2009_Lena-transect expedition of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI, Germany, Potsdam) in cooperation with the North Eastern Federal State University (NEFU, Russia, Yakutsk). Radiocarbon data have been analysed from bulk sediment samples in the radiocarbon laboratory at Poznan or at the Leibniz Institute in Kiel, from the total organic fraction, alkali-soluble fraction, or alkali residuals.
