    Dinoflagellate cyst counts of drifting trap surveys and In-situ pumps collected during Meteor cruise M165 in August 2020 (2022)

    Description: To extend the understanding of dinoflagellate cysts production, excystment and vertical/ lateral transport in the water column, upper water dinoflagellate cyst export production have been compared with cysts associations and concentrations in the subsurface nepheloid layer, bottom nepheloid layer and deeper water column during active upwelling off Cape Blanc (NW Africa) in August 2020. Export production was collected by two drifting trap surveys; one in an active upwelling cell for 4 days and the other in an offshore drifting upwelling filament for 2 days. Subsurface and bottom nepheloid layers as well as the deeper waters were sampled by in-situ pumps along two transects perpendicular to the shelf break. The dataset represents the count data on species level of organic-walled dinoflagellate cysts in drifting trap and in-situ pump collected samples as well as information about the sampling time, sampling volume and collection surface.

    ADCP current measurements (38 kHz) during RV MARIA S. MERIAN cruise MSM104 (2022)

    Description: Upper-ocean velocities along the cruise track of Maria S. Merian cruise MSM104 were continuously collected by a vessel-mounted Teledyne RD Instruments 38 kHz Ocean Surveyor ADCP. The transducer was located at 6.0 m below the water line. The instrument was operated in broadband mode with 32 m bins and a blanking distance of 16.0 m, while 50 bins were recorded using a pulse of 1.65 s. The ship's velocity was calculated from position fixes obtained by the Global Positioning System (GPS). Heading, pitch and roll data from the ship's gyro platforms and the navigation data were used by the data acquisition software VmDas internally to convert ADCP velocities into earth coordinates. Accuracy of the ADCP velocities mainly depends on the quality of the position fixes and the ship's heading data. Further errors stem from a misalignment of the transducer with the ship's centerline. Data post-processing included water track calibration of the misalignment angle (0.41° +/- 1.2721°) and scale factor (1.0045 +/- 0.0274) of the Ocean Surveyor signal. The average interval was set to 120 s.
