Abstract: The anti-corrosion inhibition effect of itraconazole on copper (Cu) in 0.5 M H2SO4 is observed with variety of experimental methods, including electrochemical measurement, surface morphology analysis, and theoretical calculations. These experimental results all confirm that itraconazole exhibits excellent anti-corrosion performance in the certain temperatures range (298 K–313 K) for copper in sulfuric acid solution. In addition, corresponding adsorption isothermal models were used to fit the adsorption behavior of itraconazole on the copper surface. The results show that the Langmuir adsorption model agrees best with the experimental results. The adsorption of itraconazole on the copper surface belongs to chemical and physical adsorption.

Abstract: China has the greatest afforestation area in the world, mainly due to the implementation of various ecological restoration projects, which have taken place over several decades. However, the progress of these restoration projects has rarely been evaluated through sapling growth monitoring. In this research, we assessed the potential of eighteen spectral indices derived from time-series Landsat data to characterize the different stages of afforestation over the Loess Plateau region. First, we obtained data for the afforestation area from 1997 to 2010. Then we estimated the average year of afforestation that could be uniquely identified and the sensitivity to growth exhibited by each of the indices. The results show that the first shortwave infrared band (SWIR1) of the Landsat Thematic Mapper and the Brightness index from the tasseled cap transformation (TCB) had the fastest response to sapling growth. It takes 4.2 and 4.3 years on average for the saplings to be detected as forest by SWIR1 and TCB, respectively. However, these two indices saturate too soon to allow better distinction of the various stages of sapling growth but are better for monitoring the over-reporting situation. By contrast, the disturbance index (DI), and the normalized burnt ratio (NBR) and the normalized burnt ratio 2 (NBR2) respond slowly to sapling growth and can detect forest at 7.4 years on average. Unlike SWIR1 and TCB, these indices do not saturate early and can provide more detail on the level and structural condition of sapling growth.

Abstract: Three-dimensional and dendritic rutile TiO2 nanorods were successfully fabricated on a Ti foil surface using a one-step acidic hydrothermal method. The TiO2 nanorods were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and optical contact angle testing. The results showed that the nanorods with diameters of 100–500 nm and lengths of 100 nm to 1 μm were obtained on the Ti foil surface. The length and density of the TiO2 nanorods were perfect at the conditions of HCl concentration 0.5 mol/L, temperature 220 °C, and reaction time 12 h. The TiO2 nanorods formed parallel to the consumption of Ti and grew along the (110) direction having a tetragonal rutile crystal. The morphology of the nanorods possessed a three-dimensional structure. The contact angle of the nanorods was only 13 ± 3.1°. Meanwhile, the photocatalytic activities of the TiO2 nanorods were carried out using ultraviolet fluorescence spectrophotometry for the methyl orange detection, and the degradation was found to be about 71.00% ± 2.43%. Thus, TiO2 nanorods can be developed by a one-step acidic hydrothermal method using Ti foil simultaneously as the substrate with a TiO2 source; the TiO2 nanorods exhibited photocatalytic performance while being environment-friendly.

Abstract: Urbanization is a substantial contributor to anthropogenic environmental change, and often occurs at a rapid pace that demands frequent and accurate monitoring. Time series of satellite imagery collected at fine spatial resolution using stable spectral bands over decades are most desirable for this purpose. In practice, however, temporal spectral variance arising from variations in atmospheric conditions, sensor calibration, cloud cover, and other factors complicates extraction of consistent information on changes in urban land cover. Moreover, the construction and application of effective training samples is time-consuming, especially at continental and global scales. Here, we propose a new framework for satellite-based mapping of urban areas based on transfer learning and deep learning techniques. We apply this method to Landsat observations collected during 1984–2016 and extract annual records of urban areas in four cities in the temperate zone (Beijing, New York, Melbourne, and Munich). The method is trained using observations of Beijing collected in 1999, and then used to map urban areas in all target cities for the entire 1984–2016 period. The method addresses two central challenges in long term detection of urban change: temporal spectral variance and a scarcity of training samples. First, we use a recurrent neural network to minimize seasonal urban spectral variance. Second, we introduce an automated transfer strategy to maximize information gain from limited training samples when applied to new target cities in similar climate zones. Compared with other state-of-the-art methods, our method achieved comparable or even better accuracy: the average change detection accuracy during 1984–2016 is 89% for Beijing, 94% for New York, 93% for Melbourne, and 89% for Munich, and the overall accuracy of single-year urban maps is approximately 96 ± 3% among the four target cities. The results demonstrate the practical potential and suitability of the proposed framework. The method is a promising tool for detecting urban change in massive remote sensing data sets with limited training data.
