The magnetic properties of the phase transitions in the heavy fermion compound YbSb are studied by muon spin relaxation measurements at the RIKEN-RAL Muon facility. In this compound, previous neutron diffraction measurements did not detect any long-range magnetic ordering down to 7 mK. On the other hand, Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements on the same sample have reported the presence of two phase transitions. Recently, we have measured the specific heat of YbSb and found two peaks at 0.5 and 5 K. However, the temperature dependence of the muon-spin relaxation rate shows no anomaly at transition points. This result indicates that these phase transitions are not magnetic. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.
