Zusammenfassung Die Indikation zur Osteosynthese einer Gelenkfraktur ist eine äußerst relative Frage, d.h. sie hängt von vielen Faktoren ab: 1. Vom unterschiedlichen funktionellen Imperativ des verletzten Gelenkes; 2. Von der Chance einer operativen Wiederherstellung, d.h. vom Schweregrad der Verletzung; 3. Von den Behandlungsbedingungen, von der Asepsis, vom Instrumentarium, von der Anaesthesie — von der Organisation des Spitales; 4. Vom Wissen und Können des betreffenden verantwortlichen Operateurs.

Summary The indications for internal fixation of joint fractures depend on several factors: 1. From the aspect of functional importance, not every joint needs the same degree of perfection of healing; 2. The difficulty of reconstruction and the probability of failure of anatomical restoration are in direct proportion to the complexity of a joint fracture; 3. Asepsis, instruments, anaesthesia, and surgical facilities in general should be optimal to allow surgical repair; 4. Sound knowledge and a good surgical technique are essential in reconstructive surgery on fractured joints.
