Notes: Summary. The long-term storage of carrots grown in the U.K. at 32°F resulted in more fungal rotting than at 34°F. It is suggested that this is due to a form of low temperature injury. At temperatures higher than 34°F rotting developed more rapidly and there was increased growth of shoots and rootlets. For storage up to 2 months temperatures in the range 32–37°F are not critical. For longer periods of storage 34°F would appear to be the optimum temperature.

Notes: Summary This study describes an attempt to construct a computer program to carry out psychiatric evaluations on data gathered in surveys of the general population. The computer model was designed to simulate a questionnaire-based evaluation technique developed by the Cornell Program in Social Psychiatry. On a sample of 116 cases, the computer technique attained agreement with the questionnaire evaluation technique 60% of the time for ratings of psychiatriceaseness (whether there is evidence for psychiatric disorder), a 76% level of agreement on atotal impairment judgment, 47% agreement ontypology (urgency of psychiatric care) and 72% identical agreements on an overallclinical rating of need for professional assistance. These figures compared favorably with the level of agreement between the questionnaire evaluation method and a number of other criteria of its reliability and validity. — This computerized evaluation technique is viewed as having potential for: 1. increasing the use of standard methods in psychiatric epidemiology that could improve comparison between studies, 2. sharply decreasing the cost in professional man-hours and money of large scale research projects, 3. rendering the logic of the clinical decision-making process more explicit, and 4. underscoring the need for more clear-cut concepts and terminology for defining phenomena in psychiatry.

Notes: [Auszug] It has now been found that cell cultures from a range of dicotyledonous plants can metabolize pregn-5-en-3b-ol-20-one (I) and progesterone (II). The results suggest that pregn-5-en-3b-ol-20-one is first converted to progesterone which is then metabolized by two pathways. One involves reduction at ...

Notes: A static vapor pressure apparatus is described which is especially suitable for mixtures. A vapor pressure flask with a built-in condenser allows the mixture to be degassed without change in composition. The entire apparatus is assembled from simple parts. Equilibrium is rapidly attained with either an external pressure or a liquid of known vapor pressure used as a reference.

Notes: The purpose of this paper is to show how a theoretical molecular weight distribution can be found which would result in a given gel permeation chromatogram. Also, to show how the method can be applied to blending problems where one desires a given molecular weight distribution.
