    Abstract: Mistimed food intake in relation to the day/night cycle disrupts the synchrony of circadian rhythms in peripheral tissues and increases the risk of metabolic diseases. However, the health effects over generations have seldom been explored. Here, we established a 10-generation mouse model that was continuously fed with daytime-restricted feeding (DRF). We performed RNA-seq analysis of mouse liver samples obtained every 4 h over a 24 h period from F2, F5 and F10 generations exposed to DRF. Multigenerational DRF programs the diurnal rhythmic transcriptome through a gain or loss of diurnal rhythmicity over generations. Gene ontology (GO) analysis of the differential rhythmic transcriptome revealed that adaptation to persistent DRF is accompanied by impaired endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Consistently, a substantially higher level of folding-deficient proinsulin was observed in F10 liver tissues than in F2 and F5 liver tissues following tail vein injection. Subsequently, tunicamycin induced more hepatocyte death in F10 samples than in F2 and F5 samples. These data demonstrate that mistimed food intake could produce cumulative effects over generations on ER stress sensitivity in mice.

    Abstract: Behavioral inhibitory control (BIC) acts as a key cognitive ability, which is essential for humans to withhold inappropriate behaviors. Meanwhile, many studies reported that long-term exposure to high altitude (HA) may affect cognitive ability. However, it is not clear whether long-term exposure to HAs may affect the BIC of an individual. To clarify the role of altitude in the behavioral control of adults and the underlying neural mechanism, we explored the BIC neural activity profiles of healthy immigrants from low-altitude (LA) regions to HA regions. Combining a two-choice oddball paradigm and electrophysiological techniques, this study monitored the N2 and P3 event-related components and neural oscillations across LA and HA groups. Results showed longer reaction times (RTs) for the HA group than the LA group. Relative to the LA group, lower N2 and P3 amplitudes were observed for the HA group. Significant positive correlations were also found between P3 amplitude and theta/delta band power across both groups. Importantly, lower theta/delta band powers were only observed for the HA group under the deviant condition. Collectively, these findings suggest that long-term exposure to HAs may attenuate BIC during the response inhibition stage and provide valuable insights into the neurocognitive implications of environmental altitude on BIC.

    Abstract: Conductive hydrogel is a vital candidate for the fabrication of flexible and wearable electric sensors due to its good designability and biocompatibility. These well-designed conductive hydrogel–based flexible strain sensors show great potential in human motion monitoring, artificial skin, brain computer interface (BCI), and so on. However, easy drying and freezing of conductive hydrogels with high water content greatly limited their further application. Herein, we proposed a natural polymer-based conductive hydrogel with excellent mechanical property, low water loss, and freeze-tolerance. The main hydrogel network was formed by the Schiff base reaction between the hydrazide-grafted hyaluronic acid and the oxidized chitosan, and the added KCl worked as the conductive filler. The reversible crosslinking in the prepared hydrogel resulted in its resilience and self-healing feature. At the same time, the synthetic effect of KCl and glycerol endowed our hydrogel with outstanding anti-freezing property, while glycerol also endowed this hydrogel with anti-drying property. When this hydrogel was assembled as a flexible strain sensor, it showed good sensitivity (GF = 2.64), durability, and stability even under cold condition (−37°C).

    Abstract: The optimal operation model of AC/DC distribution network with energy router (ER) is essentially a nonconvex nonlinear programming (NLP) problem. In order to improve the feasibility of solving the model, a convex approximation algorithm is proposed in this work. The steady-state model of ER is developed with considering the loss characteristics and multiport coordinated control strategy. It is embedded in the optimization formulations of AC/DC network as basic operating equations. Then, using second-order cone relaxation technology, the power flow equations of AC and DC distribution networks are convexly relaxed. On this basis, the highly nonlinear operating model of ER is linearized by introducing a successive approximation approach. Therefore, the original NLP problem is transformed into the convex programming problem and the solution efficiency is improved. Meanwhile, an iterative solution algorithm is developed to ensure the accuracy of the convex approximation approach. Simulation results verify the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

    Abstract: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has inadequate treatment approaches and a poor prognosis. It is urgent to develop new treatment approaches for TNBC. The combination of photothermal therapy (PTT) and chemotherapy is a very effective potential therapy for TNBC. However, asynchronous accumulation, unclear efficacy, and toxic side effects hinder the further promotion of this method. Therefore, we designed and constructed a new type of nanocarriers, the cascade release near-infrared imaging (NIFI) & amp; thermal-chemo combination nanoparticles (CNC NPs), that can release drugs through the cascade of ultrasound triggering and pH responding to achieve the synchronous tumor accumulation, monitoring and synergistic treatment of two functional molecules. The key material of CNC NPs is the polydopamine (PDA), which, through self-assembling, forms a rigid shell that contains doxorubicin (DOX) and NIF fluorescent dye IR780 on the surface of the perfluorohexane (PFH) microbubbles. The results show that CNC NPs have a hollow core-shell structure with an average particle size of 97.3 ± 27.2 nm and have exceptional colloidal stability and photothermal conversion efficiency. The NPs can effectively perform cascade drug release through ultrasound triggering and pH responding. CNC NPs have good in vivo biological safety and excellent fluorescence imaging, drug delivery, and therapeutic abilities in the TNBC models. These results provide an experimental basis for the development of new clinical treatment methods for TNBC.

    Abstract: In China, bacillary dysentery (BD) is the third most frequently reported infectious disease, with the greatest annual incidence rate of 38.03 cases per 10,000 person-years. It is well acknowledged that temperature is associated with BD and the previous studies of temperature-BD association in different provinces of China present a considerable heterogeneity, which may lead to an inaccurate estimation for a region-specific association and incorrect attributable burdens. Meanwhile, the common methods for multi-city studies, such as stratified strategy and meta-analysis, have their own limitations in handling the heterogeneity. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt an appropriate method considering the spatial autocorrelation to accurately characterize the spatial distribution of temperature-BD association and obtain its attributable burden in 31 provinces of China. Methods A novel three-stage strategy was adopted. In the first stage, we used the generalized additive model (GAM) model to independently estimate the province-specific association between monthly average temperature (MAT) and BD. In the second stage, the Leroux-prior-based conditional autoregression (LCAR) was used to spatially smooth the association and characterize its spatial distribution. In the third stage, we calculate the attribute BD cases based on a more accurate estimation of association. Results The smoothed association curves generally show a higher relative risk with a higher MAT, but some of them have an inverted “V” shape. Meanwhile, the spatial distribution of association indicates that western provinces have a higher relative risk of MAT than eastern provinces with 0.695 and 0.645 on average, respectively. The maximum and minimum total attributable number of cases are 224,257 in Beijing and 88,906 in Hainan, respectively. The average values of each province in the eastern, western, and central areas are approximately 40,991, 42,025, and 26,947, respectively. Conclusion Based on the LCAR-based three-stage strategy, we can obtain a more accurate spatial distribution of temperature-BD association and attributable BD cases. Furthermore, the results can help relevant institutions to prevent and control the epidemic of BD efficiently.
