    Abstract: A simple and novel hybrid interferometer based on the antiresonance (AR) effect and Mach–Zehnder interference (MZI), which enables simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain, is proposed and investigated. The sensor is made by cascading a 30 cm section of a few-mode fiber (FMF) and a 3.376 mm hollow-core fiber (HCF) through a single-mode fiber (SMF). The FMF and SMF are fused without misalignment to excite two stable modes, thereby forming a Mach–Zehnder interferometer. Concurrently, the introduction of HCF can effectively excite the AR effect, which is manifested in the transmission spectrum as two different dips at the same time caused by the difference in the two physical mechanisms, showing diverse responses to both external temperature and strain. This difference can be used to construct a cross-coefficient matrix to implement the simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain. The experimental results demonstrate that the AR effect and MZI correspond to strain sensitivities of –0.87 and –2.29 pm/µε, respectively, and temperature sensitivities of 15.68 and –13.93 pm/°C, respectively. Furthermore, the sensor is also tested for repeatability, and the results show that it has good repeatability and great potential in sensing applications.

    Abstract: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has lasted for two years and caused millions of infections and deaths in humans. Although the origin of SARS-CoV-2 infection in humans remains unknown, infection in animals has been frequently reported in varieties of animals all over the world. Both experimental and natural infections of SARS-CoV-2 in different animal species provide useful information on viral host range and pathogenicity. As the pandemic continues to evolve, SARS-CoV-2 infection in animals will be expanding. In this review, we summarized SARS-CoV-2 testing and infection in animals as well as SARS-CoV-2 strains and transmission in animals. Current data showed that at least 18 different animal species tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. These 18 animal species belong to pet, captive, farmed, and wild animals. Fifteen of the eighteen animal species were known to be positive for the Delta variant and ten animal species were infected with two different types of variants. Human-to-animal, animal-to-animal, and animal-to-human transmission events were suggested in different outbreaks involved in animal infection with SARS-CoV-2. Continued testing, immunization, and surveillance are warranted.

    Abstract: Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) is a highly aggressive cancer. RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) regulate highly dynamic post-transcriptional processes and perform very important biological functions. Although over 1900 RBPs have been identified, most are considered markers of tumor progression, and further information on their general role in PAAD is not known. Here, we report a bioinformatics analysis that identified five hub RBPs and produced a high-value prognostic model based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) datasets. Among these, the prognostic signature of the double-stranded RNA binding protein Staufen double-stranded RNA (STAU2) was identified. Firstly, we found that it is a highly expressed critical regulator of PAAD associated with poor clinical outcomes. Accordingly, the knockdown of STAU2 led to a profound decrease in PAAD cell growth, migration, and invasion and induced apoptosis of PAAD cells. Furthermore, through multiple omics analyses, we identified the key target genes of STAU2: Palladin cytoskeletal associated protein (PALLD), Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein U (HNRNPU), SERPINE1 mRNA Binding Protein 1 (SERBP1), and DEAD-box polypeptide 3, X-Linked (DDX3X). Finally, we found that a high expression level of STAU2 not only helps PAAD evade the immune response but is also related to chemotherapy drug sensitivity, which implies that STAU2 could serve as a potential target for combinatorial therapy. These findings uncovered a novel role for STAU2 in PAAD aggression and resistance, suggesting that it probably represents a novel therapeutic and drug development target.

    Abstract: The application of the plant growth regulator 1-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)-3-phenylurea (CPPU) is extensively used for red-fleshed kiwifruits or ‘Donghong’, but it has toxicological properties. Extra plant growth regulators (PGRs) were screened for partial substitution of CPPU (10 mg L−1) to the crops to minimize the CPPU content. The results showed that CPPU at a concentration of 5 mg L−1 plus 14-hydroxylated brassinosteroid (14-OH BR) at a concentration of 0.15 mg L−1 has a nearly equal effect to CPPU at a concentration of 10 mg L−1; it maintains the kiwifruit yields and quality as well as increases the postharvest time. Transcriptome sequencing data revealed that the regulation of 14-OH BR on kiwifruit growth acts mainly by activating Brassinosteroid (BR) signaling to synergistically and antagonistically stimulate the signaling of other endogenous growth regulators, including auxin (IAA), abscisic acid (ABA), cytokinin (CK), gibberellin (GA), jasmonic acid (JA) and ethylene (ET).

    Abstract: In order to effectively carry out the heavy overload monitoring and maintenance of public transformers in the distribution network, ensure the reliability of the distribution network power supply, and improve customer satisfaction with electricity consumption, this paper presents a short-term heavy overload forecasting method for public transformers based on the LSTM-XGBOOST combined model. The model extracts heavy overload feature variables from four dimensions, including basic parameter information, weather, time, and recent load, and constructs a short-term second highest load prediction model based on the LSTM algorithm to obtain the predicted value of the second highest load rate. After aggregating the heavy overload feature variables and the predicted second highest load rate, the XGboost algorithm is employed to construct a short-term heavy overload prediction model for public transformers to judge whether the public transformers display heavy overload. The test results show that this method has high accuracy in short-term heavy overload forecasting, and can effectively assist in the key monitoring and control of heavy overload in public transformers.

    Abstract: The location of electric vehicle charging facilities is of great significance in promoting the use of electric vehicles. Most existing electric vehicle location models, including the flow refueling location model (FRLM) and its flexible reformulation (FRFRLM), are based on flow demand. At present, these models cannot effectively deal with large-scale traffic networks within a limited time, and there has been little comparison of their relative benefits and limitations. Additionally, there have been few evaluations of the actual construction and location of charging facilities in cities. This paper describes an algorithm that can solve the large-scale transportation network problem within a reasonable time. Using this algorithm, the FRLM and FRFRLM models are compared in a case study focused on Jiading District, Shanghai, China, which provides some direction for the future development of flow demand models. Finally, to evaluate the actual construction of urban charging facilities, this paper presents an algorithm that can map the actual charging facilities to the transportation network, and compares the actual construction situation with the model output. This enables a comprehensive evaluation of the actual construction of charging facilities and provides guidance for future construction.

    Abstract: Although schools are known to play a major role in the spread of influenza virus, few studies have evaluated the effectiveness of vaccination and non-pharmaceutical measures for preventing influenza outbreaks in schools. We investigated all febrile illness outbreaks in primary and secondary schools in Beijing reported between August 2018 and July 2019. We obtained epidemiological information on febrile illness outbreaks and oral pharyngeal swabs from students in the outbreaks to test for influenza virus. We surveyed schools that did not report febrile illness outbreaks. We developed multi-level models to identify and evaluate factors associated with serious influenza outbreaks and explored the association of vaccine coverage and outbreaks using multi-stage regression models. We identified a total of 748 febrile illness outbreaks involving 8176 students in Beijing; 462 outbreaks were caused by influenza virus. Adjusted regression modeling showed that large class size (odds ratio (OR) = 2.38) and the number of days from identification of the first case to initiation of an intervention (OR = 1.17) were statistically significant and positively associated with serious outbreaks, and that high vaccination coverage (relative risk (RR) = 0.50) was statistically significant and negatively associated with outbreaks. Multi-stage regression modeling showed that RR decreased fastest when vaccination coverage was 45% to 51%. We conclude that high influenza vaccination coverage can prevent influenza outbreaks in schools and that rapid identification of febrile children and early initiation of non-pharmaceutical measures can reduce outbreak size.

    Abstract: The shelly chenier is a dike-like accumulation formed by waves, currents, and other hydrodynamic forces pushing the shells and their debris in the intertidal zone to the high tide line. It is a special type of coastal dike. The shelly chenier located in Wangzi Island of northern Shandong Province is the last well-preserved chenier of the Bohai Bay with natural attributes exposed on the surface. It has unique and irreplaceable attributes among the shell beaches of China. Based on remote sensing interpretation, field investigation, and GPS-RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) measurement, this paper investigates the coastal erosion and progradation evolution of the Binzhou Shelly Chenier in China usingcomparisons between normal and typhoon hydrodynamics. The results show that: (1) There are two kinds of shelly chenier in the study area, the first is “the tidal channel shelly chenier” which is significantly affected by the tidal current, and the second is “the open shelly chenier”, which is significantly affected by direct scouring and silting of waves. The open shelly chenier is continuously eroding under the normal hydrodynamics and the shell beach is supplied by a large number of shells and their debris under the typhoon hydrodynamics, while the tidal channel shelly chenier is gradually developed due to the action of alongshore currents and in–out flows. (2) The energy of waves and currents under normal hydrodynamics is insufficient to transport the shells and their debris in the intertidal zone to the shell-beach. On the contrary, the continuous action of waves makes the shells and their debris on the open-shell beach finer and transports the shells and their debris to the sea causing erosion and retreat of the shelly chenier. (3) The action of typhoons and other strong winds and waves results in the original accumulation on the open shell-beach being further transported to the land and provides a large amount of shells and debris from the intertidal zone to the shelly chenier. Based on GPS-RTK monitoring data from 2020–2021, it was found that the transport volume of shells and debris caused by a typhoon storm surge is equivalent to the annual transport volume under normal ocean dynamics.

    Abstract: It has become one of the research directions of intelligent materials for self-healing asphalt pavements to use a bionic microvascular containing oily rejuvenator. The rejuvenator in a microvascular can carry out the healing of asphalt micro-cracks, thus reducing the damage to and prolonging the life of asphalt pavement. The aim of this work was to investigate the smart self-healing capability of an asphalt/microvascular material through its microstructure and mechanical properties. Microstructure observation indicated no interface separation between the microvasculars and bitumen matrix. Micro-CT images showed that microvasculars dispersed in asphalt samples without accumulation or tangles. The phenomenon of microcracks healing without intervention was observed, which proved that the fractured asphalt sample carried out the self-healing process with the help of rejuvenator diffusing out from the broken microvasculars. The self-healing efficiency of asphalt samples was also evaluated through a tensile test considering the factors of microvasculars content, healing time and healing temperature. It was found that the tensile strength of the asphalt samples was greatly enhanced by the addition of microvasculars under a set test condition. Self-healing efficiency was enhanced with more broken microvasculars in the rupture interface of the asphalt sample. During two self-healing cycles, the self-healing efficiency of the asphalt sample with three microvascular per 1 cm2 of a broken interface were able to reach 80% and 86%. This proves that microvasculars containing rejuvenator play a practical role in the self-healing process of asphalt. With an increase in temperature from 0 to 30 °C, the self-healing capability of the asphalt samples increased dramatically. An increase in time increased the self-healing capability of the bitumen samples. At last, a preliminary mathematical model also deduced that the self-healing efficiency was determined by the individual healing steps, including release, penetration and diffusion of the rejuvenator agent.
