Abstract: The hardness, compressive strength and corrosion rates of LC4 aluminum alloy in 3.5% NaCl solution before and after cryogenic treatment were measured. The microstructure, mechanical properties after cryogenic treatment and corrosion resistance of LC4 aluminum alloy were investigated. The results show that cryogenic treatment can enhance the hardness of annealed LC4 aluminum alloy. An aging treatment at 120 °C for 24 h after cryogenic treatment yielded corrosion-resistant LC4 aluminum alloy with better mechanical properties.

Abstract: The regression equation of the relationship between Si, Cu and Mg and the mechanical properties of Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloy was established according to the orthogonal experimental results. The microstructure of the Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloy was analyzed with scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The results show that Si, Cu and Mg affected the mechanical properties (tensile strength and elongation rate) at 250 °C most significantly, minimally and negatively, respectively. The interactions between Cu, Mg and Si greatly reduced the high-temperature tensile strength owing to the formation of brittle and hard intermetallic Al 5 Mg 8 Cu 2 Si 6 that behaved as the initial crack during stretching.

Abstract: The effect of the high-energy synthesis of Al-Ti composite powders in a planetary mill on the as milled and heat treated structures was investigated with XRD and SEM. The results indicate that with the increase of milling time, the intensities of diffraction peaks corresponding to Al and Ti decrease and broaden gradually and the amount of low intensity lines decreases continuously. There is no new intermetallic compound in the Al-Ti mixed powders even after milling 200 h. The increase of rotation speed has significant influences on the Al-Ti composite powders, and milling 50h with rotation speed of 400 rpm has a same effectiveness with milling 200 h with rotation speed of 300 rpm. The diffraction peaks of Al and Ti both disappear in the Al-Ti composite powders milling 50h with a rotation speed of 300 rpm after thermally insulated at 610°C for 2h, indicating the formation of Al 3 Ti tetragonal phases. The higher the milling energy, the lower the reaction temperature of Al 3 Ti formation is.

Abstract: In this paper, wollastonite nanopowder were successfully synthesized by the surfactants modified-calcined method using calcium silicate residue of potassium feldspar after extraction of potassium and alumina. The effects of modifier and calcined temperature on the phase composition, morphology and microstructure were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the phase of samples with different modifier processing is wollastonite-2M, while CTAB as modifier can avoid preferred orientation growth. The obtained wollastonite powder is spherical in morphology and well dispersed with the particle size of approximately 150nm.

Abstract: A reporter gene pEGFP and a therapeutic antisense monocyte hemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) gene were encapsulated into poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) using an emulsification / solvent evaporation technique. The gene-NPs were around 300 nm in diameter with very narrow size distribution. The encapsulation efficiency of DNA was significantly improved when poly (lysine) was used in cooperation with DNA. The NPs demonstrated a steady in vitro release of DNA with more that 95% of total enclosed DNA released within 14 days. In cell culture, pEGFP -loaded NPs were able to express in smooth muscle cells at a level same as that of Lipofectin induced plasmid. To observe the effects of antisense MCP-1 NPs on the inhibition of restenosis, balloon catheter-induced injury was used to establish an intimal hyperplasia model of rabbit carotid artery. Antisense MCP-1 expression was confirmed in the artery tissue with local delivery of the therapeutic NP into the injured artery. Intima/media ratio of arteries treated with the antisense NPs was reduced by 43% compared with control group. In conclusion, NP could be an effective gene carrier for intravascular site-specific gene therapy.

Abstract: In this work, we encapsulated the titanium oxide particles with a layer of Al2O3 by a sol-gel process and investigated the UV-shielding properties of the obtained Al2O3-TiO2 composites. In this method, Al(NO3)3 aqueous solution mixed with raw titanium oxide powder was hydrolyzed by adding NH3·H2O. The hydrated materials were calcined at 500°C and then the composite of Al2O3-TiO2 was prepared. Different techniques including ICP-AES, XRD, SEM-EDS, and TEM were used to characterize the raw TiO2 and encapsulated TiO2 particles. Chemical analysis showed that TiO2 mass content in the raw titanium oxide particles is 98.25%, and Al2O3 is just 0.75%. After modification, the percentage Al2O3 was increased to 4.48% due to the encapsulation of Al2O3. Trace elements analysis displayed that the concentration of the trace elements were much lower than their original content in the raw titanium oxide, which prove that proved that there was no impurities incorporated into in the sol-gel process. XRD analysis indicated that the modified titanium oxide powders are mainly in phase of rutile, ca. 99.1%, and the profiles exhibit no peaks of crystalline Al2O3 suggesting the layer of Al2O3 exists in amorphous phase. SEM image suggests that the size is in 80~600nm of the raw TiO2 granula and became rougher on the surface, the packing of the agglomerations got looser after modification with Al2O3. HRTEM image shows that the TiO2 particles was evenly coated with a packed layer ~8 nm in thickness. The UV-Vis absorbency experiments showed that the range of wavelength shielded was narrowed from 208-316 nm in the raw titanium oxide to 225-285 nm in the case of the Al2O3-TiO2. The average absorbency of UV was improved from 1.07 to 1.98 at the same content 1.0 μg/mL in the suspended solution. The results reflected that Al2O3 modification process improve the titanium oxide particles UV-shielding properties in selectivity and performance.

Abstract: A composite, TiO2/AgY, was prepared by impregnation of tetrabutyl titanate solution on NaY zeolite, subsequent calcination at 500°C and ion-exchange with AgNO3 solution. XRD.SEM, TEM and EDAX were used to characterize the crystalline phase, the particle size of the formed nano-materials and the relative contents of atoms in TiO2/AgY and NaY zeolite, respectively. TiO2 nanoparticles with the size of 5-8 nm were found to form on the external surface of the zeolite. About half of Na+ in NaY zeolite is exchanged into Ag+. The as-prepared material exhibits excellent antibacterial activity and decompose E. coli using ultraviolet radiation as light resource.

Abstract: Proposed is an algorithm of NSCT-Based Image Enhancement Combing Homomorphic Filtering With Fuzzy theory to improve the performance of traditional algorithms in the expression of the image edge detail and contrast. With the NSCT, both the low and high frequency sub-band components can be extracted. We dispose of the low frequency sub-band components of the decomposed image by homomorphic filtering and enhance the high-frequency sub-band components with fuzzy sets theory. Then the reconstructed image after above enhancement is obtained by using NSCT inverse transform.

Abstract: Epoxidized methyl- α -eleostearate (EME) is a new kind of plant oil-based epoxidized aliphatic acid ester which starts from Tung oil. Tung oil is a special, but abundant biomass resource in China. A solvent-free synthetic technique for EME catalyzed by cation exchange resin was developed. Experimental results showed that the optimal synthetic conditions for EME were as follows: cation exchange resin dosage 5% (wt, calculated by methyl- α -eleostearate), material molar ratio of methyl- α -eleostearate, H 2 O 2 and CH 3 COOH 1:5:2.5, reaction duration 3 h and reaction temperature 65 °C. EME epoxy value reaches 6.5% under the optimal preparation conditions. The newly developed green technique features low cost, simple operation, low energy consumption, less pollution, short production cycle and good quality and is promising to be industrialized.
