    Abstract: Ligustrum robustum ( LR ) shows antiobesity effects in animal studies. However, little is known about the effect on human. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of LR intake on weight change in obese women and the role of gut microbiota. Thirty overweight and obese female participants (BMI ≥24 kg/m 2 ) were recruited in the current study. The participants drank LR 10g/d for 12 wks. Their body composition and related biomarkers were assessed. Alterations of the gut microbiota were analyzed using 16S rRNA sequencing. The primary outcome was the change in body weight. LR intake resulted in 2.5% weight loss over 12 wks (P 〈 0.01). Change in body fat at 12 wk was -1.77 ± 1.19 kg (P 〈 0.01). In addition, decreased Firmicutes-to-Bacteroidetes ratio (P=0.03), increased richness (the ACE estimator, P 〈 0.01; the Chao1 estimator, P 〈 0.01), and altered representative taxa of the gut microbiota were observed. Bacteroidaceae, Bacteroides , Bacilli , and Lactobacillales were higher while Ruminococcaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, Enterobacteriales, Lachnospiraceae, Clostridia, and Clostridiales were lower at 12 wk. Moreover, LR intervention decreased fasting glucose (P 〈 0.01), serum leptin (P 〈 0.01), and IL8 (P=0.02) and increased HOMA- β (P 〈 0.01). LR intervention moderately decreased the body weight in overweight and obese women and such effect might be due to modulation of gut microbiota.

    Abstract: Lithium iron silicate, Li 2 FeSiO 4 , is a promising cathode material for lithium ion batteries due to its high theoretical specific capacity, earth abundance, low cost, and environmental friendliness. The challenges of Li 2 FeSiO 4 as a practical cathode material are (1) the low electronic and ionic conductivity and (2) the low discharge voltage. The approach of incorporating graphene sheets into the nanostructure of Li 2 FeSiO 4 is used for dealing with the low conductivities while fluorine doping is intended to increase the discharge voltage. The fluorine-doped and graphene-incorporated iron-rich lithium iron silicate F-LFSO/G nanomaterials were successfully synthesized using a facile/efficient hydrothermal method with excellent performance, 328.43 mA h g −1 at 0.1C rate, approaching their theoretical specific capacity, 99% of 331 mA h g −1 . This clearly reveals that the reversible (de)lithiation of 2 Li + ions per F-LFSO has been realized as a result of these approaches. The (de)lithiation process has been studied using in operando high energy synchrotron X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy aided by theoretical modeling, which reveals that F doping deeply changes the O electron configuration in F-LFSO, and consequently makes the Li + ion transfer easier, while the reversible redox of oxygen can be utilized to achieve high specific capacity.

    Abstract: Hypertension, as one of the most common chronic diseases, is a major public health issue. Previous studies have shown that there are miRNAs differentially expressed in hypertensive patients. In addition, hypertension is closely related to endothelial dysfunction, and miRNAs have been identified as important molecular mediators for endothelial function. Therefore, it is necessary to identify specific miRNAs related to hypertension and explore their molecular mechanism in the progression of hypertension. Methods: We investigated the association of circulating levels of miR-3656 with hypertension. Furthermore, in-vitro studies were performed to investigate its possible mechanisms for hypertension in that the direct target genes of miR-3656 were confirmed using dual-luciferase reporter assay; moreover, the effects of miR-3656 on proliferation, migration, apoptosis, and microvascular rarefaction of HUVECs were investigated using MTS kit, wound-healing assay, FITC Annexin V apoptosis detection kit, and tube formation assay, correspondingly. Results: Circulating miR-3656 was upregulated in patients with hypertension. MiR-3656 suppressed the proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis of HUVECs, but promoted the apoptosis of HUVECs. In addition, eNOS and ADAMTS13 were direct target genes of miR-3656, and overexpression of eNOS and ADAMTS13 abolished the effect of miR-3656 on HUVECs. Conclusion: MiR-3656 is a potential biomarker for hypertension. MiR-3656 is involved in endothelial cellular injury implicated in hypertension by targeting eNOS and ADAMTS13 .

    Abstract: Two large barriers are impeding the wide implementation of electric vehicles, namely driving‐range and cost, primarily due to the low specific energy and high cost of mono‐valence cathodes used in lithium‐ion batteries. Iron is the ideal element for cathode materials considering its abundance, low cost and toxicity. However, the poor reversibility of (de)lithiation and low electronic conductivity prevent iron‐based high specific energy multi‐valence conversion cathodes from practical applications. In this work, a sustainable FeOF nanocomposite is developed with extraordinary performance. The specific capacity and energy reach 621 mAh g −1 and 1124 Wh kg −1 with more than 100 cycles, which triples the specific capacity, and doubles the specific energy of current mono‐valence intercalation LiCoO 2 . This is the result of an effective approach, combing the nanostructured FeOF with graphene, realized by making the (de)lithiation reversible by immobilizing FeOF nanoparticles and the discharge products over the graphene surface and providing the interparticle electric conduction. Importantly, it demonstrates that introducing small amount of graphene can create new materials with desired properties, opening a new avenue for altering the (de)lithiation process. Such extraordinary performance represents a significant breakthrough in developing sustainable conversion materials, eventually overcoming the driving range and cost barriers.

    Abstract: In recent years, frequent severe haze weather has formed in China, including some of the most populated areas. We found that these smog-prone areas are often relatively a “local climate” and aim to explore this series of scientific problems. This paper uses remote sensing and data mining methods to study the correlation between haze weather and local climate. First, we select Beijing, China and its surrounding areas (East longitude 115°20′11″–117°40′35″, North latitude 39°21′11″–41°7′51″) as the study area. We collected data from meteorological stations in Beijing and Xianghe from March 2014 to February 2015, and analyzed the meteorological parameters through correlation analysis and a grey correlation model. We study the correlation between the six influencing factors of temperature, dew point, humidity, wind speed, air pressure and visibility and PM2.5, so as to analyze the correlation between haze weather and local climate more comprehensively. The results show that the influence of each index on PM2.5 in descending order is air pressure, wind speed, humidity, dew point, temperature and visibility. The qualitative analysis results confirm each other. Among them, air pressure (correlation 0.771) has the greatest impact on haze weather, and visibility (correlation 0.511) is the weakest.

    Abstract: Essential hypertension is a complex disease determined by the interaction of genetic and environmental factors, eNOS is considered to be one of the susceptible genes for hypertension. Our study aimed to evaluate the association between eNOS rs1799983 polymorphism and hypertension, and to provide evidence for the etiology of hypertension. Methods Case–control studies of eNOS rs1799983 polymorphism and hypertension were included by searching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Medline, Scopus, WanFang datebase, Vip datebase, and CNKI database according to PRISMA guideline. Eligible data were extracted and pooled, and were analyzed using R software based on five different genetic models. Results A total of 60 eligible articles involving 14,185 cases and 13,407 controls were finally selected. We found significant association between eNOS rs1799983 polymorphism and hypertension under any genetic model (T vs G: OR  = 1.44, 95% CI 1.26–1.63; GT vs GG: OR 1.34, 95% CI 1.18–1.52; TT vs GG: OR 1.80, 95% CI 1.41–2.31; GT + TT vs GG: OR 1.42, 95% CI 1.25–1.63; TT vs GG + GT: OR 1.68, 95% CI 1.35–2.08; GT vs GG + TT: OR 1.24, 95% CI 1.11–1.40). Conclusions We found that eNOS rs1799983 polymorphism is associated with the increased risk of hypertension under any genetic model. Moreover, investigations of gene–gene and gene-environment interactions are needed to give more insight into the association between eNOS rs1799983 polymorphism and hypertension.

    Abstract: Context At present, many cities are facing severe water-resources problems caused by urbanisation. With the development of remote sensing and geostatistics, they have been widely used in urban water-resource monitoring. Aims To review and summarise the application of remote sensing and geostatistics in monitoring urban water resources and prospect for their furtherdevelopment. Methods First, bibliometrics was used to analyse the existing literature in this field. We then discuss the use of remote sensing and geostatistics to improve urban water-resources monitoring capacity, focusing on the classification of technologies and equipment and their applications in urban surface-water and urban groundwater monitoring. Finally, a look at the future research direction is taken. Conclusions In the past decade, the relevant research has shown an upward trend. The use of remote sensing and geostatistics can improve the city’s water-resource monitoring capacity, thereby promoting better use of water resources in cities. Implications In the future, with the development and addition of deep learning, remote-sensing and geographic-analysis systems can be used to conduct remote-sensing monitoring and data analysis on urban water resources more accurately, intelligently, and quickly, and improve the status of urban water resources.
