Abstract: Dual-function amplifiers are proposed for the first time herein for enhancing the capability of a scanning test vehicle for bridges. To start, closed-form solutions are derived for the dynamic responses of the amplifier-vehicle-bridge system with a moving test vehicle. Then, the dynamic amplification factors of the amplifier and vehicle are presented for assessing the bridge/vehicle and vehicle/amplifier transmissibility. It was known that the spectrum of the vehicle may be hindered for extracting the bridge frequencies because of vehicle frequency and rough pavement. Two differentially tuned amplifiers are called on to tackle the problem: one (i.e., the vehicle damper) is to suppress the effect of vehicle’s frequency, acting like the tuned mass damper (TMD), and the other (i.e., the bridge amplifier) is to enlarge the amplitude of bridge frequency of concern. Based on the parametric study, it is concluded that (1) the bridge amplifier performs better than the vehicle one in extracting bridge frequencies by increasing their visibility in the spectrum; (2) the effect of vehicle’s frequency can be suppressed by tuning the vehicle damper such that it functions like a TMD of the vehicle; (3) by tuning the bridge amplifier to any of the first few bridge frequencies, the latter can be well detected even for rough pavement.

Abstract: In preparation for an experiment with a laser-generated intense proton beam at the Laser Fusion Research Center at Mianyang to investigate the 11B(p,α)2α reaction, we performed a measurement at very low proton energy between 140 keV and 172 keV using the high-voltage platform at the Institute of Modern Physics, Lanzhou. The aim of the experiment was to test the ability to use CR-39 track detectors for cross-section measurements and to remeasure the cross-section of this reaction close to the first resonance using the thick target approach. We obtained the cross-section σ = 45.6  ±  12.5 mb near 156 keV. Our result confirms the feasibility of CR-39 type track detector for nuclear reaction measurement also in low-energy regions.

Abstract: In the study, the oleogel developed by lecithin/sorbitol monostearate (SMS) with canola oil was prepared and used as lamb fat replacer (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%) for lamb sausage. Lecithin/SMS-canola oil oleogel decreased the cooking loss, hardness, springiness, chewiness and resilience of sausage, without affecting the cohesiveness. The ratio of unsaturated to saturated fatty acid increased from 1.12 to 3.38 as the replacement increased from 0 to 100%, presenting a health implication. The sensory scores showed no significant difference when the replacement was lower than 50%. The TBARS values of treatment groups were significantly lower than the control after 24 d storage, indicating the retard of lipid oxidation. These findings suggest that 50% replacement of lamb fat with lecithin/SMS-canola oil oleogels may be the optimal for lamb sausages, which provide new information for developing healthy meat products.

Abstract: In this study, the correlation between the microstructure of straw fibers and the macroscopic properties of asphalt binders is investigated. Penetration, softening point, bending beam rheometer, and toughness tests are performed to investigate the relationship between the pavement properties of fiber asphalt binders and each of the fiber types and contents. Subsequently, a four-component test, SEM, Fourier transform infrared microscopy, and fluorescence microscope tests are performed to analyze the microstructure of the straw fiber and its effect on asphalt properties. The results show that the high-temperature performance and shear resistance of the asphalt binder were enhanced with an increase in the modified straw fiber content. The low-temperature performance and toughness of the asphalt binder were reduced because of excessive fiber, and the recommended fiber content is 1.5%–2.0%. The adsorption capacity of the modified straw fiber for the light components of asphalt increased by 5.4% on average, and the low-temperature creep capacity of asphalt decreased by 9.6%. The surface roughness of the straw fiber increased via modification, and the shear resistance, high-temperature deformation resistance, and stress relaxation ability of the asphalt increased by 23.1%, 6.5%, and 5.7%, respectively. The comprehensive properties of the asphalt binder with modified straw fiber are similar to those of lignin fiber.
