Abstract: Mn18Cr2 steel is one of austenitic deformation strengthening steel. The existing form of TiN and its influence on the austenitic structure in the steel by adding small amounts of TiN nanoparticles are discussed in this study, which may provide some advices to explore new way to strengthen high manganese steel. The microstructures of Mn18Cr2 steel added small amounts of TiN nanoparticles are observed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The results show that TiN nanoparticles exist in austenite and there have a very good match interface between the two phases, the crystal face relationship are {220} γ //{220} N , {422} γ //{422} N , (111) γ //(200) N , orientation relationship are 〈 110 〉 γ // 〈 110 〉 N , 〈 211 〉 γ // 〈 211 〉 N , [112] γ // [011] N , moreover, the relationship of (111) γ and (200) N is not only parallel but also coherent. Meanwhile, there are many high density dislocations, a small amount of stacking faults, twins and ε-martensite in the austenite due to the role of TiN nanoparticles.

Abstract: Rapidly solidified hypereutectic Al-21Si was prepared by the single roller melt-spinning technique. The microstructure morphology characteristics and phase structures of the alloy were characterized using SEM, TEM and XRD technique. The results showed that the grains were refined and the micro-nano composite structures were formed under rapid solidification. The microstructure of the Al-21Si alloy was composed of micro-nanostructured α-Al phase and feather-needle-like eutectic α-Al+β-Si phase. The α-Al phase was the leading phase in the eutectic α+Si phase. The nucleation and growth of primary silicon are suppressed and primary silicon could not be precipitated. The hypereutectic Al-21Si alloy showed the hypoeutectic solidification microstructure. Wear resistance was improved obviously when the rapidly solidified and was five times higher than that of the traditional casting alloys.

Abstract: Behaviors of CO2 and pulsed YAG laser melting of ZrSiO4 have been investigated using infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The laser-melted ZrSiO4 decomposed into binary oxides (ZrO2 and SiO2), while other phases or complex ZrSiO4 tetrahedron networks are also observed. The local structures and the phases of the quenched melts depend strongly on the quenching rate and melting conditions. Monoclinic ZrO2 are found to be the main ZrO2 phase in the samples treated by CO2 laser, although tetragonal ZrO2 was found near boundaries between the untreated and melted regions. High concentrations of tetragonal ZrO2 were detected in the samples treated by pulsed YAG lasers. Observations indicate that the formation of tetragonal ZrO2 is related to relatively high quench rates. Micro-IR data from areas near the boundaries between the quenched melts and untreated zircon show systematic variations of local structures and compositions. A small region with relatively low density between the untreated and melted boundaries was observed, which consists of tetragonal ZrO2 or glassy ZrO2, and SiO2. Broad vibrational bands occur in the wave number region where the characteristic frequencies of zircon are located. This observation could indicate the possible existence of small amounts of glassy ZrSiO4 in the melt state of zircon, although zircon tends to decompose above the melting point.

Abstract: A rapid-solidified hypereutectic Al-21Si-0.8Mg-1.5Cu-0.5Mn alloys strips has been prepared by single roller melt-spinning. The effects of solution technology on the microstructures and properties of the strips have been investigated by SEM, TEM. The results showed that the nucleation and growth of primary silicon are suppressed and α-Al is nucleated which prior to eutectic. The Cu, Mg and Mn are all supersaturated solution in α-Al. The major part of Si solution in α-Al, and the rest are precipitated by the micro-nanocrystals eutectic silicon. The metastable microstructures of micro-nanocrystals hypoeutectic are formed. And in the solution process, Si are precipitated from the matrix and gradually aggregate up to form small particles distributing in the matrix with the heating time. At 480°C for 100 minutes followed by quenching in water and a natural aging for 96h, the finer and more roundness of silicon particle and the maximum Vickers hardness are formed.

Abstract: The erosion wear experiments of low-chromium cast iron containing nickel were done by MCF-30 Erosion Abrasion Experimental Machine. The structure and surface morphology after erosive wear were analyzed by SEM and XRD. The results indicated that the distribution of carbide was reticular after tempering at 250and oil quenching at 960. The maximal erosion wear rate was appeared at 60 °erosion angle, high acid corrosion media have great influence on the abrasion resistance of experimental material and corrosion effects almost had no influence on the abrasion resistance of experimental material in the weak acid environment of pH≥3. The erosive wear mechanism of the experimental material was studied.

Abstract: The microstructures characteristics of interface and wear resistance Of ZnAl27 composite reinforced by SiC particles have been studied by means of SEM and HRTEM. The results shown that SiC particles could be distributed in ZnAl27 alloy uniformly, and the excellent combined interface between SiC particles and ZA27 matrix is formed. CuZn4 could nucleate on SiC particles and grow up at higher speed along SiC particles than at the vertical direction. The wear resistance of the ZnAl27 alloy could be increased remarkably due to the addition of SiC particles. When the SiC particles are added to 30%, the wear resistance was raised by 126.5 times

Abstract: In order to explore the compressive properties of aluminium matrix composite reinforced with middle content SiC particles, hot compression behavior of 30%SiCp/2024A1 composite was investigated using Gleeble-1500 system at a temperatures range from 350 to 500°C and strain rates from 0.01 to 10 s −1 . The associated structural changes were studied by OM, SEM and TEM observations. The results show that the true stress–true strain curves exhibited a peak stress at a small strain ( 〈 0.1), after which the flow stresses decreased monotonically until high strains, showing a dynamic flow softening. The stress level decreased with increasing deformation temperature and decreasing strain rate, indicating that the composite is a positive strain rate sensitive material. And therefore there will be a enough time for dynamic recrystallization to complete nucleation and growth at low strain rate and high deformation temperatures.

Abstract: The solidification process, the formation mechanism and distribution law of microporosity of the ball milling machine head cover made by SVEDALA corporation of USA were simulated by computer. The Solidworks software was used to generate three-dimensional model of cast parts and the Hua-casting software was employed to simulate the casting process. The simulated results show that significant microporosity was found in the middle of two casting heads and at the place of gudgeon journal because of insufficient chilling degree. The processing rationality was judged through the computer-aided technology, by which some drawbacks of the traditional process were overcome and the process design quality was improved.

Abstract: Cu-3wt. %MoS2-7wt. %Mo and Cu-3wt. %MoS2 composites were prepared by repressing, re-sintering and vacuum hot pressing, respectively. Microstructures were characterized by optical metallographic microscope, EDS, SEM and X-ray diffraction analysis, respectively. The micro hardness, electric conductivity and density of samples were separately measured as well. Results show that the micro hardness of Cu-3wt. % MoS2-7wt. % Mo composites is about 33.3% higher than that of Cu-3wt. %MoS2 composites. The increase in micro hardness is attributed to the presence of Mo. The electric conductivity of Cu-3wt. %MoS2 and Cu-3wt. %MoS2-7wt. % Mo prepared by vacuum hot pressing were 80.6 % and 63.8% IACS, respectively, which is an increase compared with values of 80.2 % and 57.3% IACS of samples obtained by repressing and re-sintering.
