    Abstract: Based upon the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) mechanism, a novel ratiometric fluorescent probe EB was developed to detect SO32−/HSO3−. The probe displayed both colorimetric and ratiometric responses toward SO32−/HSO3−. It displayed a quick response (within 60 s), good selectivity and high sensitivity (a detection limit of 28 nM) towards SO32−/HSO3−. The SO32−/HSO3− sensing mechanism was confirmed as the Michael addition reaction by ESI-MS. Moreover, the probe could be applied to measure the level of sulfite in real samples, like sugar and chrysanthemum, and it could also be used to detect SO32−/HSO3− in HepG2 cells through confocal fluorescence microscopy, which proved its practical application in clinical diagnosis.

    Abstract: Ductile iron and alloy steel are mostly used as the circular spline materials of harmonic reducers. The study of the differences in wear resistance of different circular spline materials is a strong basis for the design of high-precision and long-life harmonic reducers. The dry friction behaviors under room temperature of two ductile iron (low-load SHF and high-load SHG) alloys and steel (40Cr) circular spline materials were studied with a quantitative analysis of the alloy composition, microstructure, hardness and wear resistance. The results showed that the microstructures of SHF, SHG and 40Cr were graphite nodules within a tempered sorbite matrix, graphite nodules within a pearlite matrix and tempered sorbite, respectively. The hardness was inversely proportional to the wear resistance. The wear resistance of ductile iron was better than that of 40Cr, with SHF having the best wear resistance. The microstructure of the SHF and SHG ductile iron had a length of 8.1 μm, 5.9 μm (Ti, V, Mo)/C and Cu/Mg second-phase particles. Compared with tempered sorbite, the self-lubricating layer formed by the graphite nodules can effectively reduce wear. The proportion and average diameter of the SHF graphite were 1.2% and 30.9% higher, respectively, than those of the SHG graphite, providing a higher graphite spalling probability and longer graphite lubrication distance.

    Abstract: As bulk chemicals, diols have wide applications in many fields, such as clothing, biofuels, food, surfactant and cosmetics. The traditional chemical synthesis of diols consumes numerous non-renewable energy resources and leads to environmental pollution. Green biosynthesis has emerged as an alternative method to produce diols. Escherichia coli as an ideal microbial factory has been engineered to biosynthesize diols from carbon sources. Here, we comprehensively summarized the biosynthetic pathways of diols from renewable biomass in E. coli and discussed the metabolic-engineering strategies that could enhance the production of diols, including the optimization of biosynthetic pathways, improvement of cofactor supplementation, and reprogramming of the metabolic network. We then investigated the dynamic regulation by multiple control modules to balance the growth and production, so as to direct carbon sources for diol production. Finally, we proposed the challenges in the diol-biosynthesis process and suggested some potential methods to improve the diol-producing ability of the host.

    Abstract: In this study, the available data from published randomized, controlled trials (RCTs) of the use of intestinal microecological regulators as adjuvant therapies to relieve the disease activity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are systematically compared. An English literature search was performed using PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and the Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials and supplemented by hand searching reference lists. Three independent reviewers screened and assessed the quality of the studies. Among the 2355 citations identified, 12 RCTs were included. All data were pooled using a mean difference (MD) with a 95% CI. The disease activity score (DAS) showed a significant improvement following microecological regulators treatment (MD (95% CI) of −1.01 (−1.81, −0.2)). A borderline significant reduction in the health assessment questionnaire (HAQ) scores was observed (MD (95% CI) of −0.11 (−0.21, −0.02)). We also confirmed the known effects of probiotics on inflammatory parameters such as the C-reactive protein (CRP) (MD −1.78 (95% CI −2.90, −0.66)) and L-1β (MD −7.26 (95% CI −13.03, −1.50)). No significant impact on visual analogue scale (VAS) of pain and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) reduction was observed. Intestinal microecological regulators supplementation could decrease RA activity with a significant effect on DAS28, HAQ and inflammatory cytokines. Nevertheless, these findings need further confirmation in large clinical studies with greater consideration of the confounding variables of age, disease duration, and individual medication regimens.

    Abstract: Objective: To investigate the relationship between family functioning and suicidal ideation among adolescents. Method: A total of 4515 junior and senior high school students were assessed using the Family APGAR, the Depressive Symptom Index-Suicidality Subscale, the Defeat Scale, and the Chinese Meaning in Life Questionnaire. Results: This study found pairwise correlations between suicidal ideation, family functioning, defeat, and meaning in life. Specifically, family functioning was an influencing factor of adolescent suicidal ideation, and defeat was a mediator of the relationship between family functioning and adolescent suicidal ideation; meaning in life was found to be a moderator of the first half of the mediation process by defeat, that is, it moderated the influence of family functioning on adolescent defeat. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the relationship between family functioning and adolescent suicidal ideation, as well as the influence of defeat and meaning in life on this relationship, constituted a moderated intermediary model. This finding has both theoretical and practical value for the implementation of a psychosocial model of adolescent suicide prevention and intervention.
