    Abstract: The composite electromagnetic (EM) scattering characteristics from a target above a canyon/valley environment are significant. Aiming to acquire the composite EM scattering efficiently and accurately, the framework of the canyon/valley environment modeling method and modified shooting and bouncing rays (SBR) hybrid with facet-based small slope approximation (FBSSA) algorithm is investigated. Firstly, the canyon/valley environment containing two slopes and a bottom modeling method is proposed. Then, considering the environment’s roughness, the modified SBR algorithm introduced by the high-order reflection model is proposed. Combined with the FBSSA, the modified SBR-FBSSA algorithm is an efficient and accurate method to predict composite EM scattering based on numerical verification. Finally, the effects of different surface types, roughness, slope angles, and incident-pitch and azimuth angles on the composite EM scattering characteristics are further analyzed. The work presented in this article provides a way to study the composite EM scattering from a target above the canyon/valley environment. Meanwhile, the complex scattering mechanism is revealed, and some valuable conclusions are put forward based on the physical phenomena.

    Abstract: Due to the high global warming potential and rapidly increasing atmospheric concentrations of fluorinated greenhouse gases (hereinafter referred to as F-gases), the emission estimation has been widely studied. Additionally, the atmospheric observation supports the emission estimation. However, there are few F-gas studies with respect to chemical plants. In this study, we firstly carried out atmospheric observation studies of F-gases around chemical plants in China. Four typical chemical plants were selected, and the concentration levels, their concentration differences (hereinafter referred to as the up–down difference) and enhanced ratios (hereinafter referred to as the up–down enhanced ratio) of the F-gases at upwind and downwind sites in the four plants were observed. Both the upwind and downwind observation results of each plant showed that the average concentrations of HFCs were the highest (57%–85%), followed by PFCs, while the total average concentrations of SF6 and NF3 only accounted for less than 5%. The F-gases, with both the larger up–down enhanced ratios and the larger up–down differences in each plant, may suggest larger emission strengths during fluorinated production, by-products and usage processes. Additionally, the numbers of F-gas species emitted from Plants A, B and C were all significantly higher than those from Plant D. This may be because the F-gases in Plants A, B and C were emitted not only during fluorinated production and by-product processes, but also during usage processes, with respect to refrigeration and air-conditioning or foam insulation materials. The F-gases emitted by each plant did not cause toxicity to humans at sensitive sites; however, they can cause nonnegligible climate impacts. In the future, it is necessary to select more typical chemical plants to carry out the atmospheric observation of F-gases, with a higher observation frequency and larger sample size, to further estimate F-gas emissions from chemical plants in China.

    Abstract: Aiming at improving the accuracy and efficiency of scattering information from multiple targets in near-field regions, this paper proposes a near-field iterative physical optics (IPO) method based on a modified near-field Green’s function for the composite electromagnetic scattering analysis of multiple hybrid dielectric and conductor targets. According to the electric field and magnetic field integral equation, the electric and magnetic current were updated utilizing the Jacobi iteration method. Then, by introducing an expansion center lying in the neighborhood of the source point, Green’s function was modified for near-field scattering between multiple hybrid dielectric and conductor targets. To accelerate the implementation of the procedure, the multilevel fast multipole method, the fast far-field approximation, and parallel multicore programming were introduced. Numerical results indicate that there is good agreement between the results calculated by the near-field IPO method and MLFMM solver in commercial software FEKO while significantly reducing the computational burden. To fully exploit the scattering information, the high resolution range profiles (HRRP) of different targets under different conditions were analyzed, which can be further applied for automatic target detection and recognition.

    Abstract: As an important component of urban disaster prevention and mitigation systems, the balance and equity of emergency shelter distribution can be measured based on spatial accessibility utilizing the two-step floating catchment area (2SFCA) method. However, there are some issues in previous studies on emergency shelter accessibility evaluated by the 2SFCA method: (1) the high discretization of population distribution data and the travel cost being measured base on Euclidean distance; (2) ignoring the difference between shelter and population catchment sizes. To address these issues, we propose an improved 2SFCA method that computes the shelter and population catchments respectively to evaluate the emergency shelter accessibility in Changchun, China. We compare the proposed improved 2SFCA method to the original 2SFCA method. The results indicate that the catchment size and shelter accessibility calculated by the proposed method are more realistic and objective. The improved 2SFCA method is applicable method for evaluating the shelter accessibility and can provide advice for the planning and management of emergency shelters in the future.

    Abstract: Aiming at the high efficiency of composite electromagnetic scattering analysis and radar target detection and recognition utilizing high-range resolution profile (HRRP) characteristics and high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, a near-field modified iterative physical optics and facet-based two-scale model for analysis of composite electromagnetic scattering from multiple targets above rough surface have been presented. In this method, the coupling scattering of multiple targets is calculated by near-field iterative physical optics and the far-field scattering is calculated by the physical optics method. For the evaluation of the scattering of an electrically large sea surface, a slope cutoff probability distribution function is introduced in the two-scale model. Moreover, a fast imaging method is introduced based on the proposed hybrid electromagnetic scattering method. The numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed method, which can generate backscattering data accurately and obtain high-resolution SAR images. It is concluded that the proposed method has the advantages of accurate computation and good recognition performance.

    Abstract: Although a combination of immunoprophylaxis and antiviral therapy can effectively prevent mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of hepatitis B virus (HBV), a considerable number of infants born to highly viremic mothers still develop occult HBV infection (OBI). To uncover the virological factor and risk predictor for OBI in infants, we found that the diversity and complexity of maternal HBV quasispecies in the case group were lower than those in the control group. Mutations with significant differences between the two groups were most enriched in the NTCPbd and PreC regions. Genetic distance at the amino-acid level of the PreC region, especially the combination of three amino-acid mutations in the PreC region, could strongly predict the risk of OBI in infants. HBV quasispecies in OBI infants were highly complex, and the non-synonymous substitutions were mainly found in the RT and HBsAg regions. The sK47E (rtQ55R) and sP49L mutations in OBI infants might contribute to OBI through inhibiting the production of HBV DNA and HBsAg, respectively. This study found the potential virological factors and risk predictors for OBI in infants born to highly viremic mothers, which might be helpful for controlling OBI in infants.

    Abstract: Mixed fermentation improves the flavor quality of food. Untargeted metabolomics were used to evaluate the impact of mixed fermentation and single-strain fermentation on the volatile and non-volatile compound profiles of Kazak cheese. Lacticaseibacillus paracasei SMN-LBK and Kluyveromyces marxianus SMN-S7-LBK were used to make mixed-fermentation cheese (M), while L. paracasei SMN-LBK was applied in single-strain-fermentation cheese (S). A higher abundances of acids, alcohols, and esters were produced via mixed fermentation. Furthermore, 397 differentially expressed non-volatile metabolites were identified between S and M during ripening. The flavor compounds in mixed-fermentation cheese mainly resulted from ester production (ethyl butanoate, ethyl acetate, ethyl octanoate, and ethyl hexanoate) and amino acid biosynthesis (Asp, Glu, Gln, and Phe). The metabolites were differentially expressed in nitrogen metabolism, D-glutamine and D-glutamate metabolism, phenylalanine metabolism, D-alanine metabolism, and other metabolic pathways. The amount of flavor compounds was increased in M, indicating that L. paracasei SMN- LBK and K. marxianus SMN-S7-LBK had synergistic effects in the formation of flavor compounds. This study comprehensively demonstrated the difference in metabolites between mixed-fermentation and single-strain-fermentation cheese and provided a basis for the production of Kazak cheese with diverse flavor characteristics.

    Abstract: Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become the development trend in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. BIM discipline competition is an effective way for students of AEC-related disciplines to integrate theory with practice, and it is a key link to cultivate qualified BIM practitioners. This study takes participants of the 8th National College BIM Graduation Design Innovation Competition as the research objects. The Technology Acceptance Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior are combined to build a driving factor model of the competitions. Contestants of the competition were asked to complete online questionnaires, and 451 valid samples were finally obtained. Structural Equation Modeling was used to fit the theoretical model, and it was found that: Behavioral Intention to use BIM is directly and positively affected by Attitude, Perceived Behavioral Control, and Perceived Usefulness, as well as indirectly and positively affected by Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Eased of Usefulness. Competition Results is directly and positively affected by Behavioral Intention to use BIM, Perceived Behavioral Control, and Facilitating Conditions. It is also indirectly and positively affected by Attitude, Perceived Behavior Control, Perceived Usefulness, and Perceived Eased of Usefulness. The results show that the situation of students’ participation in BIM competition can be optimized by increasing the publicity and promotion of BIM and related policies, strengthening the construction of supporting teaching facilities, building the integrated curriculum system of BIM technology, and strengthening teacher training. This study provides a theoretical reference for further BIM practice, and it would help improve the corresponding teaching organization and enhance the internal drive of students’ BIM learning.

    Abstract: In recent years, overturning accidents at single-pier bridges have occurred frequently, resulting in significant property losses and safety accidents. Overturning accidents show that there are still many hidden dangers in the design, operation, and management of existing single-pier bridges. Therefore, this paper takes the K503 + 647.4 separated overpass of the Hegang–Dalian Expressway as the research object and carries out an onsite anti-overturning stability test of a single-column pier bridge. Through loading under various working conditions, the displacement changes of each support are measured, and the reaction changes of the supports are calculated. In the process of simulating the field test using the finite element program ANSYS, a rigid model based on ideal support and an elastic model considering beam deformation are established, and the accuracy of the elastic model is verified by comparison with the field-measured data. Furthermore, a series of parameters, such as the bridge side-span ratio, bridge span number, bearing spacing, loading position, and torsional rigidity, are varied, and finite element simulation is carried out on the basis of the elastic model. Through comparison of the results, a relationship between the parameters of the single-pier bridge and the anti-overturning ability is obtained, which provides a theoretical basis for anti-overturning design research and the effective reinforcement of single-pier bridges.

    Abstract: The traditional discrete vapor cavity model (DVCM) is widely used in water hammer simulation. Water column separation in pipelines is usually predicted with this model. Nevertheless, the main weaknesses of this model consist of numerical instability and nonconvergence. Regarding the weaknesses of the traditional model, this paper discusses an improved method. The new method uses a new water hammer velocity formula, a new cavity model, and a floating grid method. Through simulations to test the effects of the new model, an experimental platform can be established to realize a water hammer with multipoint collapsing. The numerical simulation was programmed in C++ and the test was carried out with an actual pipeline model built in the laboratory. After certain modelling and calibration, the parameters in the simulation calculation were consistent with the measured parameters in the test. The numerical simulation results were compared with the experimental results. For the hydraulic transient system with multipoint collapsing, the superposition effect of the wave crest of the pseudo-water hammer in the traditional calculation model was obvious. The pressure of the water hammer in the simulation calculation was significantly higher than the actual value and the convergence effect of the water hammer wave was not good. Compared with the results of the traditional model, the simulation results of the new model were closer to the measured values. Therefore, the new model has better numerical solution accuracy, stability, and convergence, which is worth further study and promotion.
